We ended up sending both of our boys for a six-week board and train with Kelia. It seemed to only make sense to send both dogs so they would have the same baseline training. Kelia was amazing! She kept us informed just about every day with videos and texts so we could see that the boys were happy and making progress. When Kelia brought the boys home, she spent a few hours with us, showing all the commands and techniques that she taught them, so we had a seamless transition. The "place" command alone has been lifechanging. (Although as you can see in the picture, they sometimes refuse to use separate mats, LOL.) We use the command before we feed them, initially when guests come by, and when we just need them to settle down a bit. It has reduced the stress and chaos in our house tenfold, and we actually can see the boys relax when they know they have a place to go and chill out. Kelia also gave us the tools to make leash walking and general obedience so much more successful. There are a lot of options out there for training. What set Controlled K9 apart for us was (1) our boys lived with Kelia, her family, and her dogs during training - they were not staying in a kennel and were in a real-life, loving environment, and (2) the promise of lifetime, free follow-up support. The boys have been home now for about 3 months. The training has stuck, and we feel like we really have the tools we need to make life pleasant for all of us, including the boys. Kelia has also proactively checked in to make sure things are going well, provided tips on the best way to reinforce training, and has responded quickly when we have follow-up questions, including offering a visit. Kelia shared that she used to be a vet tech and made me feel the most comfortable and confident with helping me set up a plan for when he might have an episode due to the transition and what all would take place to ensure he would be okay, loved, and healthy. This is a story about Lola…read more Lola and her 6 or 7 siblings were rescued from a high-kill shelter in Georgia by Furever Haven Rescue in April 2023. By the time she came to us, by way of four previous foster homes in her short four month life, she had many behavioral problems. My husband and I felt pretty confidant that we could take on this little dog with skills we acquired having raised previous dogs and turn her into a well behaved dog. We have boarded, used daycare and experienced grooming (with a rare curly haired breed and they nailed the grooming) Everything has been outstanding. Recently we experienced a very unexpected personal loss and the staff quickly acted to help us board the dogs and even took one to the vet for a needed vaccine. Without them, I'm not sure what we would have done. The entire staff is amazing - they go above and beyond - we are humbled and grateful.

He was supposed to be there for overnight stay and we booked him a room since he is not crate trained. But my dog was a bit anxious and started digging the floor with his nails trying to open the door. Accordingly the facility decided on their own to put him in a calming crate although we told them he is not crate trained and they claimed that they were following their protocol. He started biting the crate's metal bars with his teeth and broke several of them. So it looks he was left unattended and they told us about his bloody teeth after the facts we had to go to pick him up. I just came back now from his vets office here in NJ and he examined him and found out that he's got 9 broken teeth that need to be extracted.

She more or less did as she pleased when she wanted. She had us trained. We camp almost every weekend and she goes with us on all our trips. It had been a nightmare, she would pull on the leash when walking her and grab the leash out of our hands, jump up on people and their dogs, and rush out of the door of the RV with little recall. We were unable to relax and enjoy our time with her outside of the RV. Mr. Horan said he would make it his mission to teach Macie to become a better behaved dog. He did an excellent job. She returned to us a better behaved dog while still being her loving self. We are enjoying her much more at home and while camping. I highly recommend Citizen K-9 for training.
