Clean facilities , friendly staff. Would visit again . Smaller than other campgrounds , but the friendly crowd makes up for it

I want to give this place a good review considering gay campgrounds are not typical. Usually you really have to go far or fly somewhere to get something like this. But my husband and I just did not have the best stay. We were tent camping and we were down in the little valley for just small campers and tents. Signs everywhere saying don't park your car down there and we're following the rules but there were still a lot of people who parked their cars and apparently the rules just aren't really enforced. The dance floor was a lot of fun and they had a food truck there which was great for getting a good meal without having to use our own food. Had to really be wary of the golf carts as they are kind of just everywhere and zooming all throughout the place. Maybe borderline dangerous at times especially after people have had drinks. Rules also say no golf carts after dark but rules just aren't really enforced here I guess. We spent a lot of time at the pool and we were with a couple of friends but there were so many men just staring at us all day. It was just a bit creepy. Granted there were some friendly people of course but all those little things I mentioned just kind of put it downer on it. Staff was friendly at the office and this place really did look clean and was well kept. But just a couple of little things that bugged me. read more

This place sure didn't disappoint. Being first time campers to this facility, everyone and everything was top notch. The place was well kept and very clean with very friendly staff. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway, this is the place to be. My husband and I would highly recommend coming here and we definitely will be coming back! read more

Freedom Valley Campground - Campgrounds Near Me - New London, Ohio

Absolutely the best experience I've had since moving from the west coast 5 YEARS ago. Everyone is so incredibly friendly and welcoming. Never felt like there were any kind of cliques that you might see somewhere else (cough cough, starts with Sauga and is on Lake Michigan). The owners go out of their way to make sure you have an amazing experience. You have several options to choose from as far as where you stay. Everything from primitive and powered tent camping, RV sites, small cabins, and a Amazing bunk house. I stayed in a powered tent site. It was very nice; lots of shading trees all over the campground (something lacking in lower MI campgrounds.) They have a heated pool as well as a huge dance hall open every night to go have drinks and socialize. Can't wait to go back. read more

I camped in the tenting area with friends over Labor Day 2023 Pluses - Easy and responsive booking and communication - Nice and well maintain grounds and facilities - Fair price - Food service with breakfast, lunch and dinner on weekends - We were near the outdoor showers, outdoor sink area, and indoor bathroom facilities. Very convenient - Organized social hours... card games, bingo, coffee hour; talent show and dancing at the onsite facility - Nice pool - Good Wifi - Nearby town of New London has many food options including McDonald's, Subway and local diners, as well as a large grocery store with everything you can find at home - Ample indoor and outdoor bathrooms and shower facilities with good pressure and hot water - Clothing optional in the tent area and pool area - Friendly people Negatives - The tent area had been underwater a week earlier due to flooding so the ground was very soggy and muddy - The electrical outlets are scattered about the camping area. There were several extension cords plugged in across the road from us and strung across our campsite creating tripping hazards and inconvenience. - The campsites were packed too close together probably due to it being a holiday weekend. The smoke from neighboring campsites wafted through our site all night and it was loud with car and foot traffic. - The surrounding environment was also loud. The party area is nearby so you can hear the beat of the music well into the early hours of the morning, as well as train whistles and truck traffic on the adjacent highway. - You can't park your car at your site. You have to park it in a lot near the entrance, which is quite a hike up a steep hill from the tenting area and another 1/4 mile down the road. - Big negative was that people put towels down on chairs by the pool so that by 8:00 am there was no chairs left. We got to the pool long before those people ever showed up. Reserving a rental trailer, cabin or bunkhouse room is the route I would take if I ever go back there. read more

A few years ago I wanted to check out this campground out of curiosity. I had never been to a gay campground nor had any idea what to expect but I am truly glad I checked it out and frequented since. This place is beautiful; the people that camp, both seasonal and tenters here are incredibly friendly and inviting. There are many events happening that all are invited to, including themed weekends, pool parties and more. It's very dog friendly, too! This past visit though really showed me that Freedom Valley and it's owners really ARE and treat each other like FAMILY. My partner had some sudden health issues pop up which sort of left me stranded in this city passed our expected stay.. Even though it was a holiday weekend, the owners really cared, checked in with me on how he was doing often and even found accommodations for me and my pup for the unexpected and last minute needed stay. I can't thank them enough and can't express how amazing they are! read more

Have been going here for years. The owners are top notch. Every year they do improvements, making the campground even better. Great pool, along with lots of seating. Many themed weekends throughout the summer, and our group of friends and always camp together treasure our weekends there. We always feel at home. Michael and Jeff have gone the extra mile to make everyone feel welcome here, and deserve the accolades and the respect they get. Freedom valley is the number two gay campground in the US, and they earned it. If you've never tried camping before, rent one of their small cabins. To get a taste of what Freedom Valley has to offer. You won't be disappointed. But if you're going to do that, make sure you reserve soon, because they fill up fast. read more

I just got off the phone with Mike. He did it again. He listens and offers options. He just went above and beyond to make sure we felt like his first priority. A situation arose, he offered options, and now we can not wait to give him a hug and a thank you the next time we see him. We stayed again in October and continue to rave about this place. We had a chance to sample the food for dinner Friday night and it was excellent! (our group had BBQ ribs w/ fries & potato salad, a chicken sandwich, a cheeseburger, and mozzarella sticks.) All of the seasonals are some of the friendliest people you will meet at a gay campground. The Deluxe trailer has a wonderful space for entertaining inside or out and a well-equipped kitchen, but beware of the lopsided and tilted king bed. The shower house is well maintained. The availability of ice & firewood to purchase is a nice touch (would be great if they sold some other basic items too). All and all it is a very nice place to getaway for a couple days and relax! We will definitely be returning next year! read more

I've been going to freedom valley for about 3 years now. Every year the place gets better. The owners are very friendly and they try to accommodate everyone. The grounds and facilities are the nicest of any campground I've ever seen. Everyone I have encountered here is friendly and won't hesitate to help out or lend you a hand setting up camp. The place is clothing optional if that's your thing, but most are clothed (except by the pool.) close to new London which has a grocery store and a McDonald's. read more

Stayed at Freedom Valley twice this summer on a cross country road trip. Once headed east and the other heading back west. Enjoyed the place so much. Weekday quiet was nice. There is a lovely pond, pool, a couple of loops to walk the dog. Enjoyed the big open space and lots of grass to play games, do yoga. Everyone we met was so welcoming and friendly. Owners were very accommodating and kind. Heard stories of fun weekends, but our schedules were not allowing us to enjoy them. There is clearly pride in ownership. Things are organized, clean and well kept. Love that they offer recycling! Hang out by the pond and enjoy watching the mating scene of the ducks following each other around. read more

We had great time at our first visit here. First the owners are very welcoming and helpful. They make sure the place is extremely clean and landscaping is well cared for. The lake, pool, disco, and " hiking trail" were all fun. This Saturday night theme foam party was our first. Had a great time even though there was a few operational issues that I'm sure will be corrected. The food service operation is superior to most restaurants. We ate breakfast there both mornings and the three egg omelet is our choice. The ribs are the best we ever have had. Saw many getting some fantastic looking burgers and seemed everyone thought they were great. The sides we all good and the fries are fresh cut. Our next trip won't include bringing any food with this food operation on premises. I don't give 5 stars very often, but this place deserves it!!!!! i waited a long time until i wrote this - i was hoping that ammends would have been made but ive heard nothing .... i spent a weekend camping there early august - enjoyed a nice saturday standing in the pool up to my waist drinking and having a good time with friends ... until parts of my body underwater started burning ... woke up the next day and realized all the hair was burnt off my body from the waist down. i had pretty bad chemical burns on sensitive skin. found out from others that alot of people were in the same boat. my skin peeled for about a week. they accidentally released chlorine into the water while we were in it ... [only what i heard from permanent campers] at the time i complained to the management they were just really realizing what had happend and the scope of this. the guy applogized and was sincere but thats the last ive heard about it. no offer to make it right - no update on the pool situation. nothing ... im left to assume its swim at your own risk then ?? this happened a second time from what i hear from people that attended the campground later in the year ... it is swim at your own risk ! read more

Was there over July 4th and had a great time. Jeff and Michael were very helpful with anything that we needed. They have an outstanding clubhouse for dances in the evening and a great light show along with great music. The pool is open 24 hours and that was nice because of the temps we are having.
