No elevators, if you can not get up the stairs, you go to their library and do your upstairs classes virtually. You also are marked absent for all of those classes that you are virtual. And that brings me to reason number 2 why they are horrible, their tech. 2. The school literally has spyware on your chromebook so teachers can just stalk what you do all the time. Just a tad bit creepy and unnecessary 3. Paying for Saturday detention. Yep, if you get Saturday detention, you also need to pay 15$ to get in. People get these for small things like not having your shirt tucked in or having your phone out for a second. And if you are spotted with your phone, you lose it for 1 whole day and you need to pay to get the phone back+pay to get into Saturday detention. This school says that we should behave like "catholic adults" yet we are treated like total babies. And anything we do that is slightly wrong boom Saturday detention. Even having facial hair.This school is so strict about everything, except one thing that they really should be strict on 4. Literally the most racist and homophobic school possible. And no one on the staff cares. I am not even joking when I say that a teacher got more mad when someone forgot a belt then when someone shouted a slur. The hall ways are extremly narrow for the amount of slow moving beastly specimens that have to pass through them and at times it feels like u have to waddle like a penguin just to get through center hall. The biggest problem with this school is getting is getting to this school. The town is not made for the amount of traffic in the morning and the crossing guards don't seem to do much to improve the situation. Every day the traffic night mare called Allentown forces tons of students to be tardy. Lets say u are late by 2 minutes because of this traffic abomination you will be at least 20 minutes lye after u wait on a line at the attendance office and then walk back to class. The MCS is a great way for kids in the area to learn the Chinese language and culture. The grades offered is 1-6 grade. Mandarin and Cantonese are taught by teacher volunteers! Yes, the administration and teachers are all volunteers! Funding is raised by student tuition, food sale, and ticket sale/raffle during the annual Chinese new year dinner, performance, and carnival and Year end picnic. The student learning material is included with the price of tuition. Just to give you an idea of what it's like on the day of classes, which are held on Saturdays. Kids get dropped off at the cafeteria at 9 am at Marlboro Dugan Elementary, which is the site of the school. The parents can choose to stay in the cafeteria or comeback to pick up the kids at noon time. Parents are also required to volunteer 6x during the school year to help with food stand and patrol duty of the school. There is an option to pay extra if you don't want to participate, but most don't choose this option. It is really a great community of parents, kids, and teachers here! Many parents stay and socialize. There is a food stand in the cafeteria for parents and kids. Snack time is 10:30 am or so, and classes resume in 20 min till noon. I can say that the teachers are great, although learning is totally dependent on the kids and parents during the week. My kids are currently in second grade. In the first grade, kids get 1-2 Chinese characters a week, and second grade it may be 3-4 characters. There are homework assigned every week and occasional exams. It's not as strenuous as the Chinese schools in NYC, so far they are not too turned off. During the American holidays, MCS has parents involved in setting up class tables decorated in holiday themes. It's great for the kids. There is an annual Chinese new year celebration held in the elementary school. Each class practice an act to perform. A Chinese dinner is provided with cost of admission. The carnival that follows is really fun for the kids. At the end of the year, the entire school gets together outside at the park for an annual picnic so everyone can say their goodbyes before the Summer. MCS is open to all who want to learn the Chinese language. In fact there are many non Chinese kids attending the school. It's a great thing to see. Every year an election is held for volunteer administrative positions for the school. They are always looking for new teachers and volunteers, so if you want to be a teacher, get involved, or hold an administrative position, the school contract info is on their website. Be aware of its "Expiration of Tutor Instructional time" policy and how they use this expiration policy to rip you off thousands of your hard earned money! If you are a new customer, they give your kid a diagnostic test much harder than real SAT. Based on the score, they recommend you to buy lots of hour to reach your desired score. This is fear mongering! Hard test, low score, more hours==more money. At sign-up, you will be told the "100% money back guarantee tuition refund program", no single word about the "Expiration of Tutor Instructional time" policy. If you are an existing customer, they have promotion during the year. Right now, you all should get emails "Get our biggest savings of the year - Enroll now!" from C2. Be aware of this trap! They will encourage you to purchase lots of hours on top of current balance during promotion period, called "upgrade". BE AWARE of how they use the "Expiration of Tutor Instructional time" policy to rip you off. Ever since you pay for "upgrade", all the hours your kid uses from now on will be deducted from the "upgrade". Your hours from the balance of previous payment will be kept till its expiration. That means once you pay for "upgrade", your balance is set to zero no matter how many hours you have in your balance. How the used hours were logged is also dubious. My kid took some practice tests in the center. I tried to schedule meetings with the director when the test result came out. During the meeting, the director usually wrote down the hours used leading to the practice test. She usually utilized the number of used hours as an explanation for the test result. Now when I requested refund and finally got the list of the logged hours from the center, the logged hours from the list are much higher than the numbers I was given during the meetings. I was explained how the contract works in much more detail and depth when I ask for refund for over hundreds of unused hours, which worth more than $10k. Now I realized how the contract and the way the director conducted her business are fraudulent. It is a long story. I am in the legal battle with C2 now. As a good citizen, I feel it is my responsibility to let the general public know how fraudulent C2 business is. Please feel free to share my posting. Hope no others will be ripped off as much as I was.
