I had the opportunity to stop by the branch in Atwater, CA where I was assisted by Nick. I originally went in because there was an issue with my policy. Nick went above and beyond to fix the issue and even found me a cheaper policy! He actually took the time to make sure I understand everything and didn't try to just rush me out of the store. Another thing, the store was well cleaned and sanitized in-between each customer! Which is a huge thing cause most places aren't take the time to actually do this. Stay away from this place at all costs. The agents at this location will lie right to your face and try to tell you that the forms that you are signing do not mean what you are reading when it is right there in front of you.. I went in because I needed a liability policy on an RV that I had just bought because I needed to move it the next day. I was quoted $127.75 for a one year policy through Progressive. The agent came back in about 5 minutes and said that they could issue the policy for $327.75 and how much could I pay that day? I asked why is the cost now $200 more than the quote 5 minutes earlier and she told me that it was because of Freeways fees to issue the policy. I said no way was I going to pay $200.00 in fees for a policy that I could do myself at home. She said, "How about $250.00"? I said no and then she said that she could get the fees reduced and would I be willing to pay $150.00? I said that I would pay the $150.00 if that was the total cast and she agreed. She took my credit card and bought the policy from Progressive and also ran a separate charge for the $22.75 fee to Freeway. Then she started bringing forms for me to sign. The first one said right in the middle of the form that It authorized them to charge me $25.00 to run my DMV driving record. I refused to sign it because she had just told me a few minutes before that they could not run my record, that Progressive would do it. She brought another form that stated that there were 0 broker fees on the transaction, so I signed that form. Then she brought another form that had a receipt on the top half and the bottom half stated that it was a promissory note for $25.00. I asked, what is this? She stated that it was a doc fee for running my driving record but I would not owe that as agreed earlier. I refused to sign it because the fee clearly stated that I was promising to pay the $25.00. I told her that I would sign the form if she wrote on it Paid in full and marked the bottom part that I did not owe the $25.00. A week later I start getting calls from their 800 number corporate offices and the agent there says that he is starting collection process on the $25.00 that I owe. I told him all about the original transaction and he said he would look into it. How can a company start collection process on an amount that you have never received a bill for? I called this location and spoke to the manager and first was told not to worry about it but then he changed his story and said that the problem was because I had refused to sign the form that authorized them to charge me $25 to run my DMV record. Their 800 corporate office calls me every day threatening to collect the $25. I got a bill for it today that threatens late charges and interest. I feel lucky that they are only trying to collect an extra $25.00 from me. I can only imagine how many people have been ripped off for a lot more. read more
