My local Salt and Straw is the location in Gilbert adjacent to Agritopia in the Epicenter. This place is always busy for a reason- fast and friendly service and delicious ice cream. It's a smaller shop that's mostly a waiting line and the counter, but has a little extra space for their freezer (for take home pints) and swag rack. The employees are always helpful and I never feel rushed when asking for a few samples. Their ice cream uses top quality ingredients and they have a specialized churning process to make it very creamy. The best part are the 'out of the box' ingredients you won't find in other ice cream parlors. These ingredients can augment the base flavor, add a tasty wrinkle or help neutralize a typically dominant flavor. On this trip, I got a scoop of Huckleberry Oat Crisp with Foraged Porcini. It's on their Monthly Menu Series and limited time, along with 4 other unique flavors. It was amazing and worth sampling at a minimum. They also have traditional flavors but with their special take on it...like the Double Fold Vanilla uses a lot more vanilla beans to really exacerbate the flavor.
