We arrived at family-owned Freitas Cherry Ranch around 8:00AM (they open at 7:30AM) on the first Saturday of their U-Pick season this year. Parking was easy. My daughter and I found what looked to be an unpicked cherry tree and went to work. It didn't take long for us to gather a bounty of cherries, and there was tons of low hanging fruit that was super easy for a petite seven-year-old to reach. Special thanks to the Freitas staff member who told us to pick dark cherries. The bright red ones look appealing but they need more time on the tree! We took home seven pounds of cherries. They were $4/pound and they take cash or credit cards. I checked their website before heading here (and recommend you do too!). We'll definitely be back to Freitas. read more

We came for cherry picking over the weekend. Interestingly, Freitas asks you to sign a waiver before you're allowed to pick. There was no signage indicating price/pound, and they give you a plastic bag to carry your cherries. When we got into the orchard, we noticed that most of the trees had been either picked clean or had berries that were rotten or too small/not ripe yet. We intentionally walked much further in to see if we could find some trees that hadn't been picked as much, but the orchard wasn't in great shape. We struggled to find cherries we actually wanted to pick, and we tripped a few times on the uneven dirt, weeds, and tubes running throughout. When we left, we weighed our cherries and confirmed they were $4/lb. Freitas also doesn't take credit card, so we had to pay with either cash or Venmo. We've previously been to The Cherry Pit and far preferred our experience there. The Cherry Pit had parking closer to the entrance, clear signage indicating price/lb, lots of high quality trees and ample cherries to pick, and accepts credit cards. The Cherry Pit also didn't ask us to sign a waiver before entering. read more

We were excited to visit as reviews were positive. There was no cherry picking here: closed. I re-looked at reviews and all are from last year or earlier. There were others cars near us experiencing the same issue. We were all looking to see if we missed a turn. The owners should indicate it's closed. We went to Nunn's, which was great. read more

The cherries are delicious and so pretty to look at. I had a nice time. I am slightly handicapped so it would have been nice to have a ride up the dirt road to the picking area and back to my car after picking and carry the cherries. I noticed some of the other ranches have chairs for the people to sit while waiting to be let in to pick. I would have brought my walker if I had known I'd be walking a little ways. read more

The cherries here are always great. The ranch did a great job implementing the new procedures/protocols to ensure social distancing during the covid pandemic. I almost think they should always utilize a reservation system. It was easy to use and I really liked knowing I was guaranteed entry at a specific date/time. read more

We've been cherry picking for several years and this year was our first going to Freitas. It was by far our favorite. The farm itself is smaller, more intimate, "off the beaten path." The cherries are tart and sweet, much better than store bought, though there are not many varieties. We liked that they had ladders out for use. I read another review about pesticide and found that to be unfair and simply not the case. There was a healthy amount of fauna and again the cherries are delicious. We absolutely will be coming to this farm in particular for U-Pick season from now on. read more

I visited Saturday of Mother's day weekend for their opening weekend. Typically I visit another farm twice during cherry season, but sadly that one is not opening this year. I appreciated that Freitas' website was clearly updated, that they had prepared safety guidelines for physical distancing, and that they offered reservation time slots (with entrance feeds getting credited back to your cherries!). I picked 8 pounds of beautiful, crunchy sweet tart cherries. Would definitely return, and the folks I shared cherries with are watching the website to see if they reopen for next weekend! read more

Love that they have the darkest and sweetest big cherries. I think they are the only ranch there grow coral champagne cherries which is one of the sweetness type! I know this was a unique year with the covid19 precautions in place, but if they can make cherry picking a pleasure during these extraordinary times, I have no doubt it would be awesome in typical circumstances. We went home with 40lbs of cherries and made so many delicious canned and dried treats for holiday gifts. Plus, we had plenty to snack on once we finished laboring in the kitchen. Once the local stone fruit season gets into full swing, it's always an Asian Invasion at the U-Pick farms in Brentwood. We apparently love our fruit and the farmers market just doesn't cut it. Cause what's fresher than plucking it off the tree yourself? So my family never misses out on the excitement, and we're first in line with the rest on Memorial Day weekend- paint buckets in hand, wide brimmed hats shielding our faces from the heat, and ready to get picking. Freitas is a bit off the beaten path from the larger farms, but this is a good thing since that means the trees are less trampled over. And this is the only place in Brentwood to offer Coral Champagne cherries rather than Bing. Can I tell the difference? Not really. All I know is the cherries are huge, dark red, and very sweet. The trees are smaller so there's no need to climb ladders or do the run-and-leap (and then fall into a huge hole and bruise your knees...while the little kids laugh) to grab at the fruit. Cherries for the 2008 season are $2.00 a pound, and they offer boxes for easy transport back to civilization. Minus one star because why are there NO organic (or even pesticide free) u-pick farms in Brentwood? read more

All you can pick cherries at $2 per pound. How cool is that!! This is the only ranch that grow the champagne cherries. Ladder and buckets are available on site. Cherries are available for picking on weekends from 8am to 5pm during season. I would have given it 5-star if the quality of the cherries are equal to what I had two years ago and I've been a regular customer since then. We went cherry picking here on Sunday and picked about 5 pounds, and all the cherries are already all gone! The 2010 prices are $2.50 a pound. They were super sweet! There are a lot of trees to pick from here and they have ladders and plenty of buckets to use. You do have to sign a waiver here before picking. read more

I came here to go cherry picking with my relatives from India and it was pretty sweeeeeeet. They have mostly Coral Champagne cherries and I liked them because they were nice and juicy... but I think the cherries were not fully ripe at the time when I went so many that we picked were kind of sour. I'd suggest going early June for the ripest cherries I suppose (I'm not an expert so please don't hold me to this!) Some of the other farms nearby offered cherry/strawberry/blueberry picking, but this one is only cherry picking so if you want to do more, I'd suggest checking out their neighbors. This place is priced well though, got 5.6 pounds of cherries for $14. read more

I came here last weekend for my first cherry picking experience! My friend and I went to 3 farms but started out here and let me say this one was the BEST! I love the cherries at this farm. I miss wrote earlier that they had bing (they do) but in fact 90% of the farm consists of Coral Champagne cherries. If you are not familiar with this type well you are in for a treat...They are juicer and sweeter than bing. My NEW favorite since they were so heavenly. I wish I picked more....yum. yum. I recommend going early to beat the crowds. We got there early and left as the crowds pulled in. And have lots of cash to pay for your buckets of cherries! The cherries cost $2.50/pound which is standard but way cheaper than the farmers market or store. All in all, worth the drive from the city and look forward returning to this amazing farm! read more

This place was OK. Got here around 12pmish. The weather was warm and perfect for cherry eating/picking. The grass around the trees were a bit too tall and a little itchy for the kids (2, 4, 5 & 7 y/o). Watch out for snakes we saw one hiding by a tree. Had to use the ladder (first come first serve basis) cause there was not much cherries left on the lower half of the trees. The cherries were pretty sweet though. $2.50/lb Wish there were different fruits to pick other than cherries though. We (all 14 of us) had a great time. read more

I came here with my mom and kid sister this past Memorial Day weekend. There were a good amount of people, but there was plenty of parking and plenty of trees and cherries to go around. We had a blast--they provide the buckets and you can eat as many cherries as you want while you're there, and you pay what you take home! When I went it was $2.50/pound, which is not a bad deal for big, juicy, ripe cherries! Try to grab a ladder (they're lying around the orchard) as soon as you see a free one, since the best cherries are towards the top of the trees. The staff are SUPER friendly, but they are strict about paying for what you pick (there was no bargaining going on as far as I could tell), and it's CASH ONLY! We bought one bucketful, which came to be around 25 pounds/$64. They put it in a big box for us, and we went home very full and very happy. Oh and also... there are only porta potties so go to the bathroom before. There is a Safeway a few miles from the orchard, if you are like me and try to avoid porta potties like the plague. Bring sunscreen too, and water. read more

I can think of no better place to pick cherries, and Freitas Cherry Ranch has become an essential part of my annual Cherry-picking tradition. Last year was a banner year, which yielded 20+ pounds of great big sweet Coral Champagne Cherries. Once you taste these cherries, the Bing varietal just doesn't compare. This year's weather did not seem to produce the same quality as last year, but the experience was just as fun. My only mistake this year was missing the opening day. I knew I would have to move fast on this second picking day, otherwise I would lose out to all the Asians west of the Central Valley who make the annual pilgrimage to this place. I was able to hold my own, a came away with about 15 pounds of luscious goodness. The beautiful day was priceless, and a welcome relief from cold foggy San Francisco. read more

I love cherry picking in Brentwood and my experience here has been the best so far. A little off the main path with many farms, this farm was very friendly and organized. The folks there made you feel like part of their ranch instead of just another city slicker tourist being herded through. Also I love that the deposit is just $10 for a reservation (implemented because of social distancing), less than deposits in other farms. Delicious cherries too! read more
