Bling N Things is in a two story old wooden building that used to be the 49er Club, where local folks could have an old fashion dinner and dance. It was Randy's 49er Pub, the oldest bar in town, where bikers are welcome, "Where good friends meet and smoking is allowed", that's how old it was. So country rock, shuffleboard, pool & darts were replaced by a unique boutique called Bling N Things. It has a little bit of everything. I saw some furniture in old Victorian style and a bed showcasing the linens and country quilts, throws, framed prints, paintings and other home decor. I saw collectibles and clothes, a collection of eclectic items, home and garden products, gifts, funny printed t-shirts, good for the laughs and memories, and finally, candies and truffles for sale, such as Oopsy Daisy - Coconut Salted Caramels, Darth Vegan - Black Coffee, Godfather with Rum, Blame Canada Dark Chocolate/Maple, Cowgirl - Salted Caramel, etc. If you have time, do check it out, you never know what kind of treasure you can find here. Worse case scenario, you'll leave with some candy and fun memories to keep that are yours alone.

I love Sezane, Paige, Anthropologie, etc., but I can often find similar styles and quality at Sitting Pretty. So when I get the chance to drive over to Chowchilla, I definitely do! While designer stores charge $200+ per item, clothing pieces here are $25-45. I'm quite picky because I like sleek, polished looks; clothing that isn't loud, but in its own way is unforgettable. It could be a black top with a scalloped neckline - unique and not something you can easily find elsewhere. Yet soft, comfortable and easy to wash. The customer service here is top notch too. They are so friendly and attentive; always smiling - that good old Valley charm and hospitality you can't quite find elsewhere. I love that I never have to carry my clothes around because they consistently check in with me. You don't have to go to a designer store to receive designer-level customer service or quality clothing. I've definitely gotten many compliments on my clothes and women asking where I bought them. I chuckle and tell them I bought them from this little town called Chowchilla from a boutique called Sitting Pretty. Strange that such a gem exists where no one would ever expect it to, but hoping Sitting Pretty is around for a very long time. Last, but certainly not least, they source their own clothing and they frequently change. So if you like something, buy 2 of them. If you didn't find something you like that day (this never happened to me), come back a different week because all the clothes will be different.

My daughter, grandson and I went in today. There were two employees (one old and one younger)…read morebehind the counter assisting one customer in the store. They saw us walk in yet did not verbally acknowledge us. We browsed, oohed and ahhed over some of the cute tops, and eventually found ourselves near the front counter. At this point the customer finished and left. Still, no greeting or anything from either employee. There was no one else in the store. After they finished their conversation, the older employee went to the back. We continued shopping until finally I looked up and loudly said to the remaining employee: "Good morning, how are you?". She responded and STILL didn't ask if we needed assistance, if we were finding everything okay, if we had questions about any of their products, or anything! We couldn't believe how unprofessional both employees were. They obviously didn't need our business so we left. We try very hard to support local businesses. But when the employees treat us like we are invisible and aren't good enough to greet us when we enter their establishment or offer shopping assistance, then that business clearly does not want our money.
