We totally love the Fremont Inn! This was our first time staying here, but it certainly will not be our last. Erica (pronounced more like a-REE-ka, she says it SO much prettier than I can) was amazing! She runs the front desk (I believe is an owner) and is so welcoming and helpful. I totally agree with Michele R's review, especially what she wrote about cultural differences and pride/care in ownership not being the same as bad attitude. I read her review before going and was thinking that I should just keep that in the back of my mind if I took something as a negative attitude (remember that it could definitely just be a cultural difference), but that time never came. Maybe it was because we strive to be respectful anyway, so our attitudes were not coming from a place of entitlement. Yes, there are signs up at different places stating some rules, but that is to protect their property as well as make everyone aware of what the rules are. I would much rather know what to do or not do than to get "in trouble" for doing something wrong or breaking something. This lovely hotel used to be a senior living center, but obviously a really nice one. There are not many options in this really small town and as far as I can tell, it is the best one. We have stayed at the Best Western in town and did not have any problems, but the Fremont Inn is now our favorite by far. We were in room 111 and it had a little kitchen area with a larger refrigerator than most hotel rooms, a microwave, desk, two large closets (one with built in shelves), a nice shower and short tub (with accessible bars, if needed), and a queen-size bed with lots of pillows. I also love the facts that the entire property is no smoking of any kind (Don't even try it! You will be fined... and I, for one, really appreciate that!), the room doors open into an interior hallway, and the entire property is all on the ground floor. Their lobby and dining area are so much nicer than you would expect in a small town hotel. We were there during the time that they are not serving a complementary breakfast, so I cannot speak to that, but I am sure it would be good. They do everything with a lot of care. I had trouble with my tv at first. I could not get it to turn on. Erica called over the housekeeper and they both came to my room to help me out. The housekeeper (sorry that I did not get her name) fixed it quickly, because a cord simply was a bit loose. Erica also showed me how to use the thermostat while she was there. I had not looked for it yet, so that was helpful. It is on the wall between the kitchen area and the rest of the room. This is just a peek at how they went above and beyond during our stay. Charged me one hundred eighty and the wifi did not work. It was clean, I felt relatively safe but to charge the same as the hotel next door is gouging. The ladies just stared and not friendly. read more

Rating is in context of the limited options in Lakeview. If you're looking for a hotel in this remote little town where the next best choice might be the Best Western next door, Fremont Inn would be our choice again for an overnight stay. Here's why we were happy with the choice to stay here: *Pride of ownership shows in well maintained exterior and impeccably clean and orderly public spaces and rooms. *Rates are good. (Our room was $95.) *The owners are cordial if not warmly friendly. (We'll come back to that.) *Complimentary breakfast in the morning in the lobby which while not great is something. * Each room has a small kitchenette with a full sized fridge,sink and microwave. * Ours also had a small table and chairs for two. * Rooms are spacious and everything worked as it should. * The bed was comfy. * Free Wifi. * The building is quiet at night. *An advantage of this property over others in Lakeview is the rooms are accessed through inside hallways. Many of the other, or maybe all of the other properties in town (including the Best Western next door), are in old motel style with room access from the outside parking lot or off of upper walkways accessed by outside stairs. Other notes: LAUNDRY: Laundry room with one washer, a dryer and big folding table. Out of courtesy to surrounding rooms it closes at 9pm. There is an alcove in the hallway outside the laundry room and the owners placed a couple of arm chairs and a table there so people can have a comfortable place to wait on their laundry. We met some nice folks from Texas who were doing just that. QUEEN BEDS RULE: Most rooms are queen beds and all bathrooms have no tub but a zero threshold / walk in shower. I imagine that is remnant of the previous use of this building as a senior living center. CULTURAL DIFFERENCES ARE NOT BAD ATTITUDE: A few reviews here and on another review site (which shall be nameless but the initials are Trip Advisor) mention a poor attitude on the part of the owners. I'm not sure that the situations described don't spring from cultural differences. The owners are Indian immigrants and there are differences in cultures that sometimes can be interpreted differently than intended. Sharing two examples from our stay for grounding what I mean. In the first: One notices immediately on entering through the well maintained exterior, flying a big American flag, and into the spotless lobby that pride of ownership shows. And then right in front of you is a beautiful world globe that almost begs you to come look at it and a sign that reads, "DO NOT TOUCH". So there is both 'welcome' and 'we have rules here' communicated simultaneously in these things. That continues in other ways for signs here and there and check in which might seem brusque. Which is not owners being rude, it is simply what it is for cultural and language differences. They have worked hard for this property, I can only imagine the courage to relocate from one country to another and start a business like this, and they want their guests to respect the property too. In the second: When my husband went to the lobby for breakfast he intended to bring back coffee and something for us to eat at the table in our room. (I'm not much of a breakfast eater in any situation and I am not about to get showered and dressed to head out to a breakfast room when I can lollygag in my room in my jammies and read the Times on a laptop.) He noted that several people were asking if there were trays to carry food back to the rooms and were being told by the hostess, who had also checked us in the day before, "No". But seeing my husband she approached him and offered a tray to take breakfast back for me. She said "I remember. You can use this to take to her." In this outreach by her was kind courtesy because likely the reason she remembered me is I walk with difficulty since I have MS. Which has nothing to do with the reason I didn't meander down to the breakfast room. It had to do with the fact I look like heck without hair and make up done. But imagining I might not be there for the reason of walking challenges, she kindly volunteered a tray as courtesy to me. It would be much better for everyone if that cordial approach were extended to all guests all the time. Then I imagine the comments about the owners were rude would not appear on ratings and review sites. Bottom line is if you can put yourself in their shoes, you'll understand this is not intended to be rude. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: Large lot but a bit of walk to the door. Two accessible spots at door. 2) LUGGAGE RACK: Only one and it is in shakey shape. Be prepared to schlep bags. 3) EATS: Mexican restaurant El Aquila Real is within walking distance at the end of the block and pretty darned good in the pantheon of Lakeview restaurants. Eagle's Nest downtown also a drive to option. Safeway nearby too. read more

This is a decent place to stay . There wasn't anything decent for hours ! There is a best western across the street and they are pretty comparable. This place could use a remodel everything looks pretty outdated . We stayed in the double Queen suite which had a large walk in shower and little kitchenette area . Pretty clean . Cold breakfast options which weren't great at all . Lady at check in was really nice . Single level which is nice when packing the luggage. Cute coffee shop across the street . read more

I stayed at the Fremont and am warning you not to do it! The room looked clean at first sight but when I opened the bed there was a horrific smell! The towels are discolored. When I turned the shower on, the water actually smelled. They need to clean better and get a water filter. I was up most of the night because of the awful smells! read more

I recently stayed at the Freemont Inn for 2 nights. This used to be an assisted living facility, so it is one level with large rooms that include a mini-kitchen. The beds are comfortable and it is quiet. The heater fan is quite loud and kicks on and off. You have to turn up the TV very loud to be able to hear it over the roar of the fan. There was someone at the counter on my arrival, however I never saw anyone at the desk the balance of my stay. All of the lights in the foyer, dining room were turned off during my stay. It felt like an abandoned building. I had a hard time getting the internet to work, as it only works with Internet Explorer. The staff was helpful; came to my room to assist me in getting it set up so I could work. There was no breakfast available, and no notice posted of such. Breakfast is listed as an amenity on their website. I called and inquired the first morning, and was told that there would be no breakfast due to low occupancy. The workout room is awful. The treadmill would not work at all, and the bike was marginal. The room itself was in awful condition, stained carpet and appears to be used as a storage closet, too. I will say that as far as the room itself goes, this is the nicest place to stay in Lakeview. Although dated, it is clean, quiet and comfortable. The lower rating is due to no breakfast as advertised and a horrible workout room. read more

We were driving through Lakeview, OR after a long day. It was 9:30 pm and the next town that was large enough to have a late night room was nearly 4 more hours away. It was either this or the Best Western across the street. We try to keep as local as we can so we opted for the Freemont Inn. I was not disappointed. We were given a great rate on a room with a king bed. It looked newly remodeled and had a great cozy feel. It's the little things: a fullsize fridge, microwave, kitchen sink, a roll of paper towels, real glasses instead of little plastic cups. The room was neat and clean, and the staff is attentive and kind. The bed was comfortable and we slept great - almost missed breakfast. Oh, and they have a complimentary "real" breakfast served from 6 - 9 am. No simple bagels and donughts. There was real eggs, ham (I'm told sausage sometimes), fries, waffles, cappuccinos, and coffee, breakfast cereals, yogurts, and more. They also offer free wifi, which is quite a comfort in areas with extremely limited cell coverage. I highly recommend this over a Best Western. read more

We stop here every year on the way down to Burning Man and sometimes on the way back, too. * The rooms are always clean and well-maintained. * The staff are very nice. * The rates are very reasonable (about $100 including taxes for a single night, double occupancy.) The only complaint I have is that often there are Forest Service guys staying there when we're there. They get up early and have apparently never heard of the concept of quiet. We had to endure a conversation about 'Rob' and cheery whistling at 6:15am after not getting in until 1am the night before. read more

Didn't get a chance to make it past the front desk, apparently the price when you call and when you come in are about $50.00 different. Also apparently the acceptable greeting here is "Yes" I mean really- maybe "Hello" or lets go above and beyond and say "How can I help you". A great value. $90 for 2 queens (AAA rate). Beds comfortable, room clean. There was a quirkiness that I couldn't pin down and then realized the place must be a former nursing home. That explains the large rooms, large open showers, kitchenette etc. Breakfast was slightly better than an average free breakfast. There were a lot if choices, including hot stuff, but nothing of great quality. Free laundry facilities would have been useful, but they lock it up early and I didn't get a chance to use the dryer, so had laundry draped around my room. On a side note - a personal observation of which I am trying to not let affect my rating- the place is mildly creepy, and the staff as well. This place would be a fantastic setting for a mediocre horror film. read more

This place looks nice but I wouldn't know because both times I've tried to stay it didn't work out. The first time they gave my husband's room away on him before he got in from the field. They claimed they tried to call him but he was out late on a fire. He had no missed calls. This was during the pipeline boom so I'm sure they gave the room to a pipeline worker at a higher rate. Second try was this year. I was on a fire assignment and trying to get a room at nine at night on Monday. They told me they had rooms but n none at the government rate. Guess they would rather have empty rooms. I'm so disappointed in their integrity im never going to try again read more

Tough stay,, The greeting at the buzzer, and checking inn, wasn't professional or welcoming. the heating/ac was One of these where u walk in a 50 degree room, and it takes forever to heat, so you climb in bed all layerered up and around 4 am the room is finally 68 degrees and you've been peeling off your layers all night in a uncomfortable bed with the thing sounding like a truck. The "breakfast" was downright horrible, all of it. look at my history,, I'm not a serial 1 star slammer. Now, this town is literally in the middle of knowwhere and there are very few choices, at least an hour in either direction.. maybe I expect too much, but in anywhere in Bend or Reno would be better for $100.. read more

Super comfy place. I've been here for a week for work and this place is clean, comfortable and well taken care of by a very nice family. Real eggs, hearty biscuits and gravy, potato and meat options with fresh hot coffee and juice for breakfast that is self serve but you're not eating off paper plates with plastic utensils. Vintage furniture makes it feel like I'm visiting my grandparents, super nice, very homey. read more

Much nicer than we expected in a very small town in the middle of the night. They gave us a great deal on 1 Kingsized room for the night. Everything was clean and the bed was fairly comfortable. The plus side: rooms are clean, beds are comfy and room fridges are almost full size. The bad side: owner was instantly testy when I asked if he had an extra luggage cart (one was in use). He told me to 'be patient.' He was rude & defensive when I asked about the rate (online quote). When I checked in, all he asked was how to pronounce my name. I just wanted to make sure about my rate as he told the guest before me, the rate was $140/night. I was standing there with my husband and two other couples. Owner was immediately apologetic after my husband told him word of mouth goes a long way & we + our friends could take our business elsewhere. He seemed fine after that, but on the way to my friend's room, he was overheard swearing/complaining about us. We'll be staying elsewhere the next time we visit Lakeview. read more

Stayed here twice over the Memorial Day weekend. Found the accommodation very comfortable and accommodating. They do have king size beds, but you need to ask for them. Breakfast was okay. We'll stay here again when our travels come this way. read more

Second stay at the Fremont Inn, very friendly staff, clean, good breakfast, they can make lunches if you want one, fellow classmates had good reviews abt the lunch, and commented on how much food there was in the lunch. I checked out early and was charged a surprise fee (equal to the daily rate plus tax) that was not on the receipt they provided and showed up separately on my credit card statement. They let us leave with the impression that we were paying for only the nights we stayed. I've stayed here several times on work assignments, for at least 3 nights in a row. We don't ever anticipate finishing early, but I checked out more than 24 hours in advance of the last day's checkout. They were not willing to waive it, and it took several phone calls and emails to establish that. It seems their staff is not all clear on their cancellation policy, otherwise it would not have been a surprise, would have been on my receipt in the first place, and the first staff person I talked to would not have assured me that it would probably be reimbursed once she talked with her boss. In the past I've also stayed at the Best Western next door, also checked out early, and had no trouble with inaccurate receipts and was charged no early departure fee, just for the nights I stayed under a week-long reservation. Everything else was fine, the rooms are clean and spacious, but I will probably not stay here again thanks to the trouble with the receipt and losing trust with them. Best Western is just as good, if not better, and the rate is comparable. Seems lame that they are so tight-fisted about $80 when as a result of all this, I just won't ever stay at Fremont again. read more

The phone rang all night and when I mentioned it in the morning..she's says "I know it you should just unplug it. No they should of told me about it when I got the room. Lady serving breakfast was on cell phone LOUDLY the entire time. Have always stayed at the Best Western in Lakeview. All full, so booked at the Fremont Inn. This is a former adult care facility. Check in pleasant. Courteous staff. All rooms (one level) surround central large lobby, sitting, and breakfast area. The rooms are larger than standard. Full fridge, sink, micro. Very comfortable and very clean. Fitness room. The owners run this facility. It shows. The breakfast was quite good and very comparable to BW if not better. No feel of being crowded. Fresh scrambled eggs, fresh sausage, potatoes, waffles, biscuits and gravy, plus cereal and breads. The person I think was the owner was constantly monitoring the breakfast. Take you bags in when you stop at the front door to register. Parking is not in front of room. Will stay again. read more

Great place, Newley remodeled, we stopped at the end of a long day, they gave us a great deal on two rooms. Rooms were like new, very comfortable beds, large flat screen tv's , large fridge, microwave, sink, great bathrooms, linens and the breakfast, wow, real eggs cooked fresh, sausage links, potatoes, and everything else. The nicest hotel in Lakeview and rates are reasonable. Ample parking, large, clean rooms with kitchenettes. Also, a great breakfast is served in the mornings with several options to choose from (eggs, meat, bagels, yogurt, waffles, potatoes, juices, cereal, etc.).
