A tree branch jabbed into my left eye causing some vision blurring and pain. I reached out to optometry office who couldn't see me until 5 days later. The next morning, the pain was getting worse and I was pretty desperate to get an immediate appointment into any optometry office. Most optometry offices open at 10am, but this one opens at 9am and I was lucky enough to get in for a 10:30 opening. Once I arrived, I got checked in pretty quickly. The staff there were all very pleasant and friendly. Soon after, I was in the exam room and Dr. Kimberly Haw came in. Dr. Haw was also very friendly and down to earth. I appreciated that she was very frank and straightforward about the potential level of injury that my eye could have sustained, yet also had a sense of humor that put me at ease. After examining my eye with some nifty gadgets, she was able to see that I had an abrasion on my cornea. She explained the condition, treatment plan - antibiotic drops, and things to look out for. I was originally just looking for ANY optometrist that would see me for my eye injury, but after my visit and positive experience today, I will return to Fremont Optometric Vision Care Center ongoing as a regular customer for my annual eye exams. Not that I plan to injure my eyes anymore, but if it happens again, Dr. Haw said to give their office a call as it is their practice to get people with eye injuries into the office ASAP for care. Found this optical center through my EyeMed insurance and scheduled my first visit for an eye exam. I was seen by Dr. Eddy Haw. He was great. It was a normal eye exam. Nothing different than my previous eye exams at other optical centers. The reason for the very low rating is due to the charges. After my eye exam, I decided to use my optical insurance coverage towards the eyeglasses. When I told the front desk staff member that I wanted to go with the basic plastic lenses that are covered with copay, she told me that I couldn't and had to choose the polycarbonate option. I referred to my insurance coverage and benefits and pointed out that the plastic lenses are covered with $10 copay, but that the polycarbonate lens would be the extra "lens option" listed on my benefits. "Lens Options" should be opted in by the patient and not added on by the discretion of staff. She said that isn't how it works and that I MUST get the polycarbonate "lens option" on top of the single vision lenses (that are covered already). Therefore, I ended up paying for the single vision lenses (which are covered through insurance with a $10 copay) and the additional polycarbonate "lens option" for an additional $40. A few days later, I receive a phone call from another staff member stating that they didn't charge me correctly and that I owe an additional $35! At this point on the phone, I was really irritated with this optical center with all these hidden fees that they were charging. I got the EyeMed paper bill in the mail, I was billed for a Premium Contact Lens Exam. After this phone call, I called EyeMed to confirm some information. Yes, indeed, single vision lenses are covered ($10 copay) and you do not need to get any of the lens options added, only if you want them. The patient is the one who decides which options they want added, not the staff. I also asked what differs the contact lens exams from standard to premium and was told that it depends on the prescription and if it requires more comprehensive services for a more difficult contact lens prescription. After the EyeMed call, I called Fremont Optometric to inquire more information on the charges. The front desk staff who I spoke to confirmed that I did NOT need to add the polycarbonate lens option and that I could have chosen just to get the single vision lenses. She said that I was correct, but since they had already made the eyeglasses, that it was too late to do anything about it. Then I asked about the contact lens exam and why I was charged the premium instead of the standard, she didn't have an immediate response and she asked me to wait a moment while she grabbed my chart. Her delayed response was, "Oh, it looks like you were charged the premium because you're a new patient." When I finally went to go pick up my eyeglasses from this dreaded optical center, I received them and the temples were so lopsided. I asked the front desk staff if she could adjust it and she asked me what was wrong with them. All I had to do was point to them as they rested on the desk and place my finger on one of the temples so that it could seesaw back and forth. She went to go adjust them and it was still lopsided. At this point of defeat, I just told myself I would take them to another optical center and get help. The icing on the cake of this entire experience was when she handed me the eyeglasses and said that it didn't come with a case. LOL. read more

I was very pleased with the aesthetics to their office upon entering. The office is located in a business suite. The first room you enter is for checking in. You can peer through to the other side where the main area for display of numerous frames. The young optometrist assistant was very kind from the time of meeting to her pre-testing my eyes. I was the first appointment on a Monday morning at 9am so fortunately, I was taken in right after completing my intakes. When I entered the second room, the assistant measured my temperature and provided hand sanitizer. There was NO eye puffing machine needed for me thankfully during the brief pre-testing. Dr. Haw saw me afterwards for the main checking and was very relaxed and very easy to talk with. She shared how her husband also worked for Stanford Medicine after finding out I worked at the hospital. She found common ground quick. She was also very quick yet patient while checking my eyesight. The overall time I was there in testing (including pre-testing) was probably about 30 minutes tops. I spent another lengthy time looking for the right frame. I tried on so many and never felt rushed or urged to buy a frame. The young girl who helped me checked in periodically but gave me the independent space to search. She provided some input when I was comparing similar frames. I was in there for 1 hour but left satisfied with testing, customer service, aesthetics of the office, and especially my new frames that will be arriving in 3-4 weeks. I didn't expect less for timeframe being that it was the holidays and end of year with most likely surge in customer orders. read more

If I could give a bad review of less than one I would. I have been going to them for over 5 years, and I complained about my glasses 2X's first time was when I was to get my glasses back within 2 weeks and they lied to my face that they put a rush on them, but the glasses were still delayed. Yes, I was upset and told them so. The second time was right after I got those glasses... they broke (poor quality not their fault) but I paid quite a bit out of my own pocket. So they sent them out and then charge me $25.00 to fix. Which is probably what they paid but again lied to me telling me it was for shipping. It still took over a week to get the glasses back. That was at the end of last year 2024. Present day July 1st, 2025, and they told me they won't give me an appt. 'cause I got upset. Now, they said they don't want my business. Apparently, they never have bad days. Don't give them your business if you have bad days. They had no idea what I was going through but again they don't want anyone that has bad days read more

The doctors are really good but they do not give electronic prescription. As of March 1st 2022, the pharmacies no longer accept hand written prescription. I am literally on phone from 2 days to get an antibiotic medicine needed for my eye infection! They have partnered up with Nowrx Pharmacy but this pharmacy only accepts few types of insurance. So if you go in for check up, please make sure you check everything to avoid running around with eye problems! read more

My eye exam went by quickly and smoothly as I was guided from room to room and I was never at a moment of feeling lost or confused. Dr. Nguyen unfortunately had to deal with me putting up a fight in order to put in some eye drops in (I'm not very good at it!! Haha) but she was VERY patient. My glasses came back a couple weeks later and were ready for me to wear! Overall, the entire staff is incredibly friendly. Dr. Nguyen was absolutely pleasant and provided me with such a comforting and safe space. This was my first visit and I was very satisfied. Dr. Eddy Haw was my Optometrist and he was very good. He was very relaxed and professional, and answered all my concerns about my eyes. I was originally a patient at the Rosemont location, I just love Dr. Harano. Then I moved to Fremont and started seeing Dr. Haw at that location. I think the exam's are worth every penny and I highly recommend them. The entire staff is so professional. Now, they are on the pricey side with the eye wear so, if you needed to save money you could take your prescription someplace else. I get one pair there and a second back up pair at Walmart to cut costs. I have been a happy customer since 1997. read more

WISH I COULD GIVE ZERO STARS! Called there this morning to make an appointment for myself and my daughter. We have medi-cal (Alameda Alliance) March Vision Care and when GAIL answered and I let her know why I was calling and the Ins. coverage that I had, this Dr. Office was immediately not interested in accepting new patients with Medi-Cal coverage "at this time". I hung up feeling very uncomfortable. Yes Medi-cal isn't going to pay as much as other insurance but there is a reason we have the insurance that we have. I'm sure if I had called and said that I had VSP she would have been happy to take me seeing as she was ready to until I told her the type of Insurance I had. My mom is a licensed Optician and works for an AMAZING OD. in SF, they do not accept medi-cal period. They don't just pick and chose when they want to. BAD BUSINESS, HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. So pretty much this OD. is not here out of care and concern for his patients, HE ONLY WANTS YOUR MONEY!!!!! read more
