Great rafting experience. Our guide was named Chance and he was excellent. He was skilled and very informative about the river, history of the area, the wildlife and more. We were a party of five - three were children aged 12, 14, and 16. We were new to rafting and he made us feel very comfortable and safe while allowing for some excitement as well. The entire staff was excellent as well. They really care about providing a great experience and good service. They really seem to appreciate their customers. I highly recommend. My Wife, grandson, and I used French Broad Adventures for a zip line tour and whitewater rafting trip. We found all of the employees to be very skilled, professional, and courteous. I didn't go on the zip line because of some recent surgery but my wife and grandson enjoyed it immensely. The next day, all three of us went on the 9-mile rafting trip with two class IV rapids in the last couple of miles. It was a lot of fun and the last two rapids were certainly a challenge. I would highly recommend it if you have time for the longer trip. That said, our guide was not the best. She managed to get us hung on several rocks, almost always took and different route through the rapids than the other guides, and almost always entered the heaviest part of the rapids in a broadside position. One by one, she blamed everyone in our raft except my grandson. I have significant whitewater experience and have never approached rapids in this manner or been treated this way. I also observed that the other guides on this trip did not approach rapids this way and many of them had a raft full of 10-year old YMCA girls that weren't contributing much to the paddling effort. That said, I still highly recommend this company because they were excellent in all matters that you would expect them to be. The guide we had won't last long unless she learns and changes. read more

We had a great experience rafting with French broad rafting late last month! We were visiting Asheville, and were set up with this company through our cabin rental. It did not disappoint. As someone who has rafted a dozen times or so, we found the river excellent for beginners, but still fun for experienced folks, as we brought some friends who have not rafted before, and they felt safe and had an excellent time. Our tour guide led us well, and this was the only time I have ever experienced a hot lunch on a rafting trip, which was super tasty and the perfect way to recharge for the second leg of the trip. My wife and I did 5 mile/4 hour rafting today and had a great time! All the reviews on Yelp were right on . We had Tim as our guide and he was very knowledgeable and funny on the bus ride and on the trip. He knows the river like the back of his hand! Experienced and professional and safety minded! Except when he pretends a snake hit the water from the trees and we all jump! Great tome and absolutely breathtaking views of mountains! This is heaven. We took the 5 mile trip (class 2 & 3 rapids). I would like to do the 9 mile trip (class 4) next time. Our trip lasted about three hours. The staff had a great sense of humor and they were very professional. I forgot sunscreen an they were kind enough to share some vs. trying to sell it to me. They were also accommodating when we asked to change our date, as we asked a few days earlier. A great company to go rafting with! read more

Not only did we raft they stopped at a couple of places and we jumped off a point and then got to swim through a section of Rapids! I didn't see any of the other companies do this! French Broad Rafting and Zip-lining was awesome!!! We are down from New Jersey visiting the Asheville area and we were so glad to have found this company. The staff was super knowledgeable, friendly and had such a great sense of humor. We started our day off with the Zipline tour. Our tour guides names were Joe and Alex and they knew everything there was to know about the area and how to make us laugh and have a good time. There were 10 lines and 2 repels and a whole lot of smiles. Next, we did the rafting tour, which was great! You take a bus from the outpost where the raft guide Tim kept everyone fully entertained on the 10 minute trip with his jokes and stories. Once at the river you're given your guide and off you go. Our guides name was Corey. Corey knew the river perfectly and guided us along safely and again with laughs and good times. Overall, our experience was wonderful and we had such a great time. Will definitely recommend this family-owned business to others and want to come back! I can't say enough how fabulous this company is!! read more

We originally signed up for the nine mile trip, but due to the water being too low we ended up having to do the five mile trip. They were able to give us a refund on the difference and while we were bummed, you can't exactly control Mother Nature. Anyways, the trip was awesome. Rafting down the French Broad River with the mountains surrounding you is an experience you can't put into words. Our guide was Chris and he did an awesome job! We loved that we were able to stop a few times - jump off a small rock cliff, go swimming in the water, and eat a hamburger/hotdog lunch. We had a blast. Did have a bad experience with the souvenir/gift shop as they mislabelled the price of an item, resulting in at least 15 minutes of my inconvenience. My 8 year old was very nervous at the start but they kindly and gently put her at ease and within 10 minutes on the water she was hooked. We did the lunch stop trip and the food was surprisingly tasty for riverside fare! Fun selection of gear at the shop for post paddle. Finally, their website was great- informative and easy. I usually do not take the time to write reviews however this company and their guides are so exceptional that I just had to let everyone know. We did both the zip lining and the rafting this past Saturday. We were a little nervous out zip lining but our guides Josh and Ryan made us feel, comfortable, safe and secure and were great at calming our nerves. We had a group of 10 and they knew all our names. The zip lining it self was an amazing but the guides themselves made the experience that much more enjoyable. Our rafting trip was just as great. From the start Sean kept us all entertained on our 20 min. bus trip and our rafting guide Dan was very knowledgeable and was great fun. This company knows how to treat their guests. Where do I begin....this was SO SO MUCH FUN! We went white water rafting and ziplining, for my partners birthday. It was super cold outside, but that was okay because they gave us wet suits and splash gear, in addition to safety gear, to keep us warm! Richard was our tour guide and he was really sweet, funny, and informed! He told us a lot about the river and the environment around us which helped us to feel more connected to our activity and the magic of being on a river like the French broad! There was a break during the trip on a stop they've created off the river, where he made us hot tea and we had snacks! The group with us had hamburgers and hot dogs but with a full day of activity, we didn't really want full bellies. After white water rafting, we went ziplining and our guides names were Holly and Leigh (I think I spelled that wrong?) and ziplining was terrifying for me and it took awhile for me to get comfortable but my partner had a great time! Thanks for such a wonderful trip. I would absolutely white water raft again. read more

My wife and I had been rafting before but our two boys (14 & 9) had not. The five hour trip was a perfect intro for our beginners. The boys got to hop out of the raft and float downstream as well as jump into the river from a rock outcropping. Everything was well organized and professionally run from start to finish and the guides were AWESOME, very capable and personable. Our guide Timmy and the lead guide Jordan were especially good. Don't let the joking and carefree attitudes fool you, these guys knew their stuff and kept everybody safe and having fun. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as a great day out for a family. Do yourself a favor and get the BBQ lunch (burgers and dogs), well worth the nominal charge. read more

Took the family rafting today with French Broad Rafting. We took the 4 hour, 5 mile trip. The guides were both extremely knowledgeable and friendly... and with a great sense of humor. This was a very well-run outfit, and it was perfect for beginners. Rapids ranged from class 1-3, and it included stops at a cliff jump, swimming hole, and snacks. My 10 and 13 year old boys loved the experience. Two huge thumbs up for FBR. We will definitely return if we are in the area again! read more

My husband and I went to hot springs for our honeymoon and went white water rafting one day with French broad rafting and zip lines. Our guides were Richard (8 years experience) and Shawn (9 years experience). They were great!! Highly recommend getting them as your guides if you can, and getting the day trip with lunch. You might think you only want to go 5 miles (we were beginners so we thought 5 miles would be enough), but with these two guides, time flew by and we wished we had picked the 9 mile trip! A great experience!! Our guide Sean successfully navigated us through class 1/2/3 rapids down the beautiful French Broad river while entertaining us with jokes and stories galore. The location is quite remote with no cell service but the staff were very friendly, professional, and efficient. They provided lemonade and granola bars halfway through the trip as well as a chance to cool off by jumping from a 10-foot ledge into the river. Overall a great trip - highly recommended! read more

The staff were awesome! Tom was our guide for the group and Korey was our boat guide. Tom was hilarious and kept us entertained on the trip to the river and back from the river. Korey was amazing, she was knowledgeable and patient. We did not get stuck, or dunked out of the boat. She encouraged us, taught us and entertained us the entire trip. Amy's bus driving abilities left me in awe, she drove those skinny little roads with that big yellow bus like it was nothing. The entire trip was enjoyable, well organized and well managed. I was disappointed when I tried to get in with a competitor across the road but it turned out to be the best thing ever. Jordan is the best guide! He funny, full of energy and patient. It was the first time WW rafting for our group. Grown ups got Jordan and the kids got Mikey (who was also fantastic). They were so into the river and had a lot of great tidbits to share.
