Visitors to the area will discover that Asheville possesses a majestic vista of the surrounding mountains, but a pretty unimpressive river. There are other stretches of the French Broad that are more aesthetically pleasing, but around here, it's a brown snake that doesn't seem impressive. If you pass through the city without stopping here, you're not missing anything given the profligate majestic clear waterfalls in the mountains nearby. However, there is a decent pedestrian infrastructure built up around this bridge, and several restrooms, launch facilities for watercraft, and other useful features. For the more casual or local user, it's at least a waterfront that has been well developed for public use. read more

What a lovely and well maintained park. We specifically stopped by to use the dog park and we're so glad we did. Quick hint- if you GPS the actual dog park, you will be taken down a side road and directed to climb down through some overgrowth. Take the normal park entrance and follow the paved path to the dog park entrance. This park is beautiful with huge shade giving maple trees and a wide, well paved path. The dog park was pretty empty on Thursday afternoon due to the rainy weather. However our other visitors who were very welcoming and had very friendly dogs. Stopped by again today, before road-tripping home, and it was just as fun. Lots more visitors and other dogs to play with or just chase. Our dog was even greeted by one of the Thursday people. Just a nice place to spend some time. The area is well kept and they have a good amount of supplies to keep it picked up. read more

Beautiful park! It's soooo green and well maintained. I see some people hung their hammocks on the trees. Great idea!! This is a great place to relax or go for a picnic. Lots of shade. There are not a lot of parking, luckily we were able to get a spot. The restroom is right next to the parking lot, didn't have a chance to check it out to see if it's clean but looked fine from the outside. The park is one of the stops that link to the long walk way along the river. It's a great trail, easy & flat with beautiful nature, calming environment. Highly recommend taking a walk here. We also walked by a decent size dog park. They split it into 2 areas for large dogs and small dogs. Lots of room for your dogs to run around and play with other dogs. So pretty! We parked at 508 Riverview Dr. and walked to New Belgium Brewing Company and back. We walked up to the brewery, so from start to finish, it was just under 3 miles for us. Very nice and leisurely walk with other walkers and bikers, but it wasn't overly crowded at 11:45 am on Saturday, 5/18/24. It took us an hour. Definitely recommend! We suggest wearing sunscreen and bringing water because there's not very much shade. read more

Great place to unwind and clear your head after a long day. There is a walking path that circles the whole park for shorter walks, with the option to take an alternate path that will take you as far as you care to go. There are two large fenced-in enclosures for dogs; one for smaller dogs and another for larger ones. I usually go here just to walk, but I often see people riding bikes, scooters, and hoverboards. There is also a big, gazebo-like structure that serves as a picnic area, with close access to barbecue grills for cooking out. This place is an especially good option if you're tired of Carrier Park, but there is another walking path that leads back in that direction if you start to miss it. Highly recommended. read more

I don't have a dog but I went to this park to walk along the river. I did check out the dog park and all the dogs seemed to be having a great time. This park has two separate areas for small and large dogs which is nice. It also seemed to be very well maintained. The park surrounding the dog park is also really nice. There are a lot of trees and the grass is nice to sit out and have a picnic. There were also people who set up hammocks in the park. The hiking trail along the river is also really nice. Its an easy walk and would also be a good place for an easy bike ride. I recommend you checking out this park whether you have a dog or not. I would come back again. read more

This is a great place for a picnic or outdoor exercise or just enjoying the green space around Asheville. It borders the French broad river, and you can watch us people float and rafting down the river. It has bathrooms accessible... This is a nice little park to sit back and relax on a lazy day. Nice trails for walking, both paved and not so much paved. The views of the river and relaxing, and there are plenty of trees to hang out under in the shade for a picnic or just for getting down to Earth. We were looking for a park near the water to walk and finally found this location. Overall it is a beautiful location with many trees overhead, and a great green color this spring day. There are picnic tables spread out, a dog park at the opposite end, and a small dock over the river bank to check out the water. The park was well attended the Sunday we were here. Parking is a little minimal for the amount of people that were here. The park could benefit with an update to include more tables, benches, and freshening up the restroom. But as a city park it is nice and has a decent walking trail you can follow from the park along the river to another park about 1/2 mile down. read more

This is absolutely without a doubt my favorite place in Asheville. It is so gorgeous, beautiful green field, lush trees, the French Broad river, a dog park, swings, a enclosed patio/picnic area, public bathrooms/drinking fountains. So beautiful. The loop here is .4 miles, so I often go walk around 5 times and get in 2 miles while enjoying the Asheville beauty. A great place to walk, run, bike, set up a hammock, slack line, play with your dog (on a leash-city law), or nap under a tree. I go here a few times a week and will continue to do so as long as I live in Asheville! read more

This park is nicely designed with picnic tables, grills, a swing set, a dog park, and a riverside figure-eight walking path. Parking is limited. During popular days/times, you might have trouble finding a parking space. They have expanded to have overflow parking in a gravel lot. Occasionally you will smell the foul smell of the MSD pumping station behind the park because they vent the facility periodically, sometimes several times a day. If you are looking to expand your walk, run, bike, etc., it connects to a dirtway (and future greenway) at one end which will take you to New Belgium Brewery and the other end will connect you to Carrier Park (and then Hominy Creek Greenway). Definitely give it a visit. :) read more

Looking for a park to walk our dog child, we discovered French Broad River Park. This is a beautiful park that runs right along the river. It is also a dog park! We opted to not let the little one run around in the park because there was a lot of dirt/mud and we did not want to have bath time. As fast as dog parks go, this one is prob going to be your best bet in Asheville. There is the fenced in dog areas, both large and small dog areas separated, both with nice secure gates to get in and out, big shade trees, benches to sit and watch your doggy, walking trails, large grassy areas to play in, the river along side with areas for you pooch to get into the river to take a swim. There are picnic tables, a play area and benches and a decent size bathroom at the entrance. This all comes with some downsides of being next to the river though. The dog park gets washed out any time it rains, leaving the ground a muddy mess. The parking situation is not great, as it is sometimes hard to maneuver around in an SUV in the small gravel area closest to the park and You still have to walk a lil bit to get to the dog areas. It's not easily accessible like the other dog parks where you can park your car right beside the dog park fence and walk him straight in. However, my dog has NEVER complained about going, and she loves this park, I suggest going on a day where the ground has been dry for a couple of days, (good luck) and I like to let her run all of her energy out, take a swim, walk her around to catch the gorgeous views, then let her nap the whole way home. I went is an area by myself with my dog staying in an Airbnb without a fenced yard and my dogs needed some off leash time. I found this free dog park and absolutely loved it. It's a short leash walk from where you park your car to the fenced dog park where the small dogs and large dogs have separate areas to play. I was on the small dog side so there weren't that many people there but my dogs had a blast trying to coerce the big dogs into running the fence. It's worth a trip across town if you have dogs. read more

We stumbled across this park (thanks Yelp!) on a restless Sunday morning. It was too early to drink (thanks NC liquor laws) but we didn't want to sit around the house for the next couple of hours waiting for breweries to open. We loaded up the pup and headed out. The entire park is beautiful with flat, paved walking trails that run alongside the river. We spent most of our time at the off-leash dog park. There are 2-sides, one for small and one for large dogs. Our pup is in that medium category, about 35-pounds. Not super small but not big either. We hedged our bets and went in the large dog side because that's where everyone else was. And, who wants to hang out in a dog park with no other dogs?? I don't know if it was just a fluke or if Asheville dogs are genuinely nicer, but it was a big, ol' doggie love fest in there. In Charlotte, the large dogs seem so aggressive. Here, they were all tail wags and butt sniffs. There was even one huge dog that went around kissing every other dog. I googled "best place to walk my dog in Asheville" because it seemed like good doggy places were so few and far between. I'm amazed that somehow I lived in this town for a year and a half and hadn't ever seen the French Broad River Park. It's paradise for doggies, long-distance runners, and anyone else who wants to stretch their legs out somewhere green. The FBRP has a lot of space to leave your car. There's a cute park for dogs, with a fence to keep the big dogs separate from the little ones. I like this concept a lot because I have a small nervous dog who would be intimidated by dogs twice his size. Unfortunately today, there was a big dog in the little dog park. I guess size is subjective. When I first go to FBRP today, I was frankly a little disappointed. It seemed like just a tiny little trail loop, maybe 1/4 mile. I walked around the circle once, cut my losses and drove away. After driving about 1/4 mile down the road, I found a place to park my car, and I decided to walk my dog again. Just then, I noticed that some of the very same people I had just seen at FBRP were here at this other place. What, did they teleport? Curious, I followed the trail back in the direction I came from, and found out that the greenway extended all the way from FBRP to where I'd parked my car. Then I walked back in the other direction, and lo and behold, this is a whole network of lush, green recreational area abutting the French broad river. The trail goes on for about a mile, then it becomes a sidewalk for a bit, and there's a big recreational area with a bike track and a roller hockey rink. Past that, there's another 1/2 mile (approximately) of riverside greenway, before you hit a trailer park. The greenway actually goes THROUGH the trailer park, which is very amusing, and then when you come out the other side, there's another couple miles of riverside trail. This is a dream for a long distance runner. The trail is safe for pedestirans and bikes--set off from the road so you won't get sideswiped. Very gentle inclines and declines, subtle winding, trees, grass, river, scenery, no turns for several miles, and then you can make a u-turn, and run the whole way back. It's a reasonable place to train for a marathon or a half marathon, and, unlike Beaver Lake, you don't have to pay for a permit to walk your dog. read more

We came here while visiting Asheville with out dog. We were looking for a park to take him and be able to let him loose and throw a ball. We had tried driving all over Asheville to various parks that were coming up on our maps app but not actually there once we arrived. This park was fairly large and goes all along the river and there is one side that is mostly for dogs, they have an area for you to let your dogs loose and play together and there were a lot of people walking their dogs over towards that side of the park. If you are looking for a place to take your dog to interact with other dogs than this is a good place. It was super busy though so if you are looking for just a casual walk then I would look elsewhere. read more

Perhaps I'm terribly spoiled when it comes to the dog parks but I have to say this one is pretty horrid. It's a terribly small fenced in area. The puppy area in golden gate park is much bigger, except that's on the other side of the country. It's coated in wood chips which I can understand since there's about four inches of muck that's basically mashed in dog shit along with the mud. Good times right there. The mud is the biggest annoyance. You can tell that over the years crap has been mixed with it because it smells like a damn sewer. Something should really be done about that. I'm sure it looks great once spring arrives with the river right there and the trees and all. I think I'll just stick to going into the mountains with my dog and have a much better experience. read more

Beautiful spot, right along the river. Dog park is reached by a short walk from general use parking lot. It's well fenced including entry areas for large and small dogs. Large dog park has lost most vegetation so can be dusty or muddy but was recently covered with wood chips. Small dog area has some bare spots but is mostly grassed. Both sides have benches, shade, and water sources. There are also nice paths for leashed walks. read more

We went with my daughter's Labrador and I was impressed. They have an area at the very end of the French Broad River Park both for large and small dogs. The area is mostly dirt, however, plenty of room to run and play with other dogs. There are a few benches for owners to sit and talk as well. With Asheville being animal friendly, this was definitely a great place to go with the dogs. The only down side is that there is not a lot of parking. read more

My fiancé and I brought our pup with us to Asheville on our yearly anniversary trip and were surprised to find not just a near by dog park but a breath taking surrounding area. Each and every day we were in Asheville we decided to make it over to this park and go for a run/take our dog to the park. I wish the fenced in dog park was a bit bigger and had a faucet for the dog bowl located in the fenced area but besides that it was a very enjoyable experience! read more

I hope that I can change this review to give more stars sooner rather than later but I will not be returning here any time soon with my dog. Small and muddy which I can deal with (mud happens with any high use area), but what I cannot handle is the fact that there was broken glass, trash, and even a blood glucose test strip on the ground. I don't expect perfection from any dogpark, but I do expect a safe area for dogs to exercise and play. I guess we'll unfortunately be making the longer drive to Azalea Park dogpark for our outings... Hopefully the city can rectify this issue and make the dogpark somewhere safe for dogs and humans both to be, especially after they already spent so much money on a 'massive overhaul and facelift' read more

We're visiting from out of town and this was a great place to exercise the dog.The dog park itself was well secured, both large and small dog areas, had a buffer area to so that dogs couldn't escape, grassy and shaded areas and benches for the owners. The rest of the park was well maintained and had paved and non paved paths for walking, and stepped access to the river. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was that the large dog area is mostly dirt in the middle - but I don't think much could be done about that - and that there was only one water faucet that caused a big puddle around it. read more
