A nice big dog park for our furry friends to run, located not too far from the edge of town. This park offers two separate fenced in areas for different sized dogs and a water spout to refill the water bowl. It's pretty basic. There is a small pond/lake nearby and trails. Bathrooms are not close however, so coming with small kids could prove challenging. Big area for doggie to run though. Plenty of picnic tables to sit at. All in all it's a good park. read more

My pup Lucy and I have done a few road trips and always find a dog park along the way, in her 1 year of adventuring with me we've been to countless parks. Azalea is one of our top 5 favorites and lucky us, it's only a few miles from our house. The dog park has 2 sides, one for little dogs and the much larger area for big dogs. Each side has tables and benches. The big dog side has a TON of room for zoomies. There tends to be a lot of mud so make sure you head over to the lake after so your pup can take a dip and clean off. There are also some pretty big holes so watch your step. They try to maintain the park but let's be honest, with the amount of rain we get and the amount of dogs that frequent this place, there will always be something. The dog parents are pretty friendly, we see a lot of the same people and usually always have someone to chat with. The dog usually get along, I've only seen a few scuffs. That's what dogs do! read more

Azalea Dog Park is awesome!! We heard about it from a local pet business. The park is on a scenic back road near our RV park (Taps). The park has 2 main fenced in areas for dogs to run and play - one for dogs under 25 lbs and one for dogs over 25 lbs. There are big areas for them to run and play. There are water stations. There are chairs and benches and there is even a little gazebo. Chop had a great time the 2 times he has been there and will be back soon. There are also areas to walk (on leash) around a cool pond and trails. The road in is scenic and curvy. There are cows and horses and a river. We love this park and may visit again today. I'm putting 2 pics up and will get more today or tomorrow. read more

Nothing special about the park itself, but the people and dogs who go there are great. There is the occasional irresponsible dog owner but most know who they are and can anticipate incidents when they are there. Visitors and first time visiting dogs are more welcome here than the other options in town, particularly smaller dogs. If you use the big dog side, there are plenty of trees and a couple of holes aka tiny dog swimming pools after rain; if you use the small dog side, in the summer it can be quite warm until the sun drops behind the trees around 7 p.m. read more

Really not too impressed with this park. Actually nothing more than a fenced in lot. Poop bags kept outside gates so if you forget to pick one up when you need one, then you go outside three gates to retrieve it. No fresh water for dogs, only source is a large cooler size jug that no one knows how long it has been since it was filled. Yes it has benches, but in two weeks have never seen more than five dogs in Park and have gone twice a day At various times. Really nice dog park. They've got plenty of room for dogs to run around as well as nice seating. The gazebo was really nice. There was a watery mud pit that our dog enjoyed playing in and he got quite messy. It would've been nice if there was a place to rinse him off at but otherwise, a great dog park! read more

I really love this place. Small and large dog areas. I have only been twice but have experienced only friendly dogs. I have a small dog, but he loves to play with the big guys and when we go in the big side, he always finds a few friends and runs his butt off. If you have never been there, it is a little tricky to find... keep winding all the way down around the back way past the soccer fields. You'll eventually run into it. There is also a lake area, but they have to be on leash there. read more

Plenty of space for dogs to run, water provided & a bench. Could use another bench for busy morning crowd but at least they have one. Damp grass plus dirt parking lot means mud in the car but these are just picky little things. Nice people who pick up after their friendly dogs make this a great place to let pooches play. read more

The park itself is a lovely big set up. Dogs have lots of space to run, and there are two fences to get in so you don't have to worry as much about pups slipping out accidentally. It seems to be hit or miss with the people/dogs. We've gone a couple of times where people were letting their aggressive dogs run around without paying much attention to them, which was a huge bummer (and not safe for the dogs). I really wish people wouldn't bring aggressive dogs to the park! Not fair to all the wonderful pups! My advice would be to keep a close eye on your dog to make sure they don't end up getting targeted by some of the more mean dogs, since some owners aren't checking in with their pups. read more

This park is well used but not well cared for. Never go there except if it's a dry spell as we once got infections in after a rainy spell. They do have both a small dog and a large dog area. Plan to wash your pooch when you get home. read more

We are from Nashville, Tennessee and took our golden retriever to this park to play with some friends. It is a large dog park, with lots of trees to offer shade. The park was free of dog poop. I would have liked to see more poop bag stations with trash bands. read more

Great place for the dogs. My pup loves it! Areas for dogs under 25LBS and over 25LBS. People sometimes don't follow this rule, one example being I once saw someone bring in their CHIHUAHUA into the over 25LBS area. Small thing understandably got zoomed over by bigger dogs, resulting in something happening with one of its hind legs. Unsure if it was serious or not, as we were leaving the park. But, sad to said that was the owner's fault for bringing their small dog into the big dog area. The place does get big mud holes in it, especially in the big dog area. But, typically they try and put some of that plastic mesh fence up to prevent dogs from getting in the mud. Dogs can slip under it, however. The occasional unruly dog comes in, and so do little fights. But that's just the risk of being at the dog park. All the little spats I've seen have been swiftly settled. Good place over all, my pup's favorite place. She's made some good friends and always gets excited when we pull into the parking lot. Tip: Bring lots of water and a doggie bowl. You'll be very popular with the dogs! The water dispenser doesn't always have water, so better safe than sorry. :) read more

This is a pretty, spacious, and friendly spot. You can park close to the gates to the enclosures. Both sides--small and large dogs--have thick turf and only a few bare/muddy spots. Both have shade, water, and permanent benches as well as plastic chairs in various conditions. There is a tight knit group of regulars but I found them very friendly to dogs and humans. I moved here just recently with my 2 black labs. I took them to this park today, and I would have to say it is a very comfortable park to be in. Both dogs and humans were very friendly, and even though my pups are still shy they were fine meeting the other dogs. It is a bigger park, with grass, which is what my pups are used to. We walked around for a long time, watching the other dogs. Since it was hot, it was nice to see they had water taps and dog bowls for refreshing. Benches, some plastic chairs. Seemed like most visitors clean up the dog poop, but I did see a few piles. I remember seeing poop bag dispensers, but I brought my own. Folks were reading in the gazebo, and since I am a librarian that made me smile. I will definitely come back to this park. read more

We lived in Asheville for about 6 months, and went to this dog park frequently. We much preferred it to the French River dog park, which is smaller, has all wood chips (easy to clean up, but not very fun for the dogs) and sand - and very little shade. It's great that there are areas for big and small dogs (the big dog side is obviously much larger). The "regulars" were as a whole pretty decent, and knew when a dog needed to be removed for whatever reason. Mostly very friendly dogs. There is an area for filling water dishes, which is very nice. There is a double gate entry for safety, which is appreciated. Parking is literally right by the dog park. Since the park is so large, the dogs are really able to RUN and run fast - you will have a tired dog when you go home! However, also please think twice about bringing children in, of any age under teenagers. I saw a few knocked down when they got in the way of a barrelling 100+ pound dog (this park gets some HUGE dogs), and I myself was knocked down on at least 3 occasions over the 6 month period we frequented the park, just while standing chatting with other patrons. This is just an inherent risk of large dog parks, but why they're not the best place for younger kids. It IS a bit weird to get to if you don't know where you're going, but stick it out and after the first couple times you'll have no problem. :) Downsides: *Not particularly well maintained - grass is often VERY long. Meaning that you may easilly step in hidden dog piles (please clean up after your dog!), and that there are BUGS everywhere. Plan to leave before dusk, or bring some sort of repellent if it's not winter. Remember to check for ticks in the summer. *Big to the point that if you have a dog that isn't particularly responsive it can be a chore to chase them down. Frequently people have to spend some time re-acquiring their dog before they can leave. Fence on one side is very low, so if you have a jumper, be cautious and keep a close eye out. *Gets muggy during the day in the summer because it sits in fairly dense low lying woods beside a lake. Try earlier mornings or after 5 in summer. *Tends to get flood-y when it rains, and like another reviewer pointed out, standing water in NC often leads to Giardia and other parasites. Watch your pooch carefully if you go there after it's been rainy; keep them out of those puddles. One other thought: We not infrequently saw people letting their dogs run around at the lake area also. Please keep your dog leashed when outside the dog park part, even if "he likes to swim in the lake". There are reasons there are leash signs posted and in my experience at other mixed use parks, they become much more restrictive in their rules when people don't follow them, as soon as there is an incident like a bite or nuisance complaints.
