Nice farmer's market although not as broad variety of vegetables as other markets. There are lots of vendors selling clothing, jewelry and knick knacks taking away from the supposed "French" feel of it. The crepe vendor and coffee purveyor had a lot of attention though. The nuns are there selling their baked goods. Those fruit tarts are quite tasty. It would be nicer if there are more organic vegetables featured, but in all it's an interesting place to visit.

I love heading over to the Evanston Farmer's market in the summer. Growing up, I was always under…read morethe assumption farmer's markets only sold fruit and vegetables. Boy was I wrong! The Evanston Farmer's market not only sells produce but a host of other things. My last visit, I spent nearly 2 hours going through at least 3 dozen vendors. If you're a foodie or a home chef, you will love this place. I found things like specialty pasta from Pasta Pappone, pasta sauce from the River Valley Ranch tent and some beautiful gladiolus stems I sent over to my mom the following day. There are vendors that sell meats and cheese. A few even offer home delivery services. The food vendor line up at this market is also very good and worth checking out. This year Defloured Bakery from Chicago has a tent and they have some of the best gluten free cupcakes in town. I ended up buying a Whoopie pie. If you want to order ahead of time, Defloured accepts pre-orders online for pick up at the market. Their online pre-order menu has more items for sale versus onsite. You would just prepay before picking up your baked goods. A few local restaurants like Gotta B Crepes and Cocina Azteca have set up space so if you get hungry from all the walking those options are readily available. I've tried both restaurants and both are delicious. If you park in the nearby public parking garage next to the Hilton Garden Inn, your parking is free as long as you remember to validate your ticket at the City of Evanston tent on your way out. My only ding on the market (and this might be COVID related) is the lack of seating on the grounds. The Farmer's market page on the City of Evanston website says food can't be consumed on site. So if you plan on eating, you will need to take it to-go. If you are in the area, I would recommend coming to the market at least once for the experience.

This one, however, is just right! Cozy, welcoming, never crowded. And with a tidy collection of much needed selections. Duhviously there's the produce and flowers- the staples of every FM. And those are good. The variety of apples, tomatoes, and potatoes are stupendous. All the other seasonal stuff is the usual jive but the myriad Michigan berries are big and juicy. The flowers though not very plentiful in kinds, are very good quality and priced well. By that competitive for a FM on the NS and most the same price Sonora simple. Some tasty WI cheeses are sold. They also sell fresh and natural dog bones (bones for dogs) of different sizes (alas G is too small for the smallest) so you can get fido a treat. The highlights to this reviewer are the the soup and salad guy who only uses super high quality ingredients and employees people in need ( those in transition or differently abled) also the knife and blade sharpening guy! So warm, charming, and great prices. They know their stuff too! It's open from 7am to 1pm Wed from spring to fall. Don't be a grumpy old bear and stop on by!

Farmer Nick's incredible selection of farm-raised, local meats. Their grass fed, grass-finished ground beef is my go to buy.

I visited the North Branch Market a few weeks ago and this weekend decided to check out the Park Ridge Farmer's Market, and it's another great market. Honestly, I don't get the popularity of something like the Green City Market and though the Lincoln Square Farmer's Market (which used to be my usual) isn't anywhere near as good. There are lots of vendors here. The portion of the market where I entered had a lot of food and goods vendors--pizza truck, ice cream company, bakery, kettle corn, olive oil (there were two!), textiles, soaps & scents, and more. I thought that street was the extent of the market, but when I neared the end I saw that it extends into the parking lot on the street and that section has a lot more. There were at least five different farm operations represented, a man selling meats, and there was a cheese stand as well. It's the height of summer, so I ended up with plums, blackberries, blue cheese and curds, some bread, and a couple other goodies. This market was a really great balance of the Farm in Farmer's market with so many selling here and various other sundries. A four-piece classical quartet serenaded folks as they wandered the market; I assume that the musical entertainment changes from week to week. They had a children's activity booth where this weekend kids were playing with clay with a local artist, and there was a community booth where a local food pantry was collecting donations (the market was also encouraging folks to buy two of an item to donate one to the food pantry). Again, their schedule changes, so I got the impression that the children's activity may be different on different weekends. The market opens early (7 a.m., I think) and the kid's booth starts around 9. Parking is excellent. There's a lot off the street where the market is held with space for a great deal of cars--I think its primary function is as a municipal lot. There's also copious amounts of street parking around as well. If you're in the area on Saturday while the market is in swing, this is a fantastic one you should put on your agenda.
