Salami Barolo, raw milk Mild Cheddar cheese, and Honeycrisp Apple. A perfect light lunch for two!

Great fresh produce from local farms. Great Organic choices from responsible sources. Today we had Salami Barolo, some mild cheddar made with raw cows milk, and Honeycrisp apples. Delicious! The delivery guys are super friendly (so tip them!) and the quality is great. Can't beat the convenience!

When you tell a writer they can write about anything, absolutely anything, sometimes they get writer's block. On the same page, I feel like I was getting cooker's block. The cure? constraints! Tell writer you have to write about a dog, a cat and a serial killer. Give a cook a box of fresh veggies! BAM! So many ideas! Irv & Shelly's got me excited about cooking again! I was more adventurous, more willing to try out dishes I had never done before. And the greens were so fresh! nom nom nom. love it!

Ok, got the 40+ serving fruit box. Uh Maz Ing. While the variety wasn't vast (pretty much just pears, apples, kiwis and bananas) the quality was superb. The apples were awesome, again. My mom raved about the pears (I gave them to her because I'm not a huge pear fan), the bananas were so good even my dog was excited about them and he doesn't usually like bananas. The kiwis were juicy and delicious. Veggies again were good, yummy flavorful mushrooms and great spinach, good boston lettuce and some random bok choy-like stuff. My veggie adventure every week has me eating healthier and more adventurous than I have in ages. Yum. That's all I can say.

I started a standing order with Irv & Shelly's Fresh Picks in late June 2009 and am still going strong. They are very reliable and affordable. I can't believe I didn't yelp them yet. My favorite part is finding out that I love vegetables I probably would never have bought on my own at the market. I like that by buying from them that you are supporting LOTS of local organic farms and not just one like buying from a regular CSA, where the cost is prohibitive and limiting to what you get each week. Thus far my favorite things that I have eaten in restaurants but had never made at home: collard greens, patty pan squash, spaghetti squash, kale, swiss chard, these heirloom cucumbers which I forgot the name of, etc. As a big fan of eating tasty food, I love having new to me vegetables to experiment with. P.S. The garlic we've been getting from them is awesome.

My sad, soft, beat up oranges and onions :/

I've ordered from Meal Village a couple times and had great experiences including ordering online…read morewhich was very easy. Both times the food arrived EXACTLY at 4pm and was top quality with good portions for most. My dad recently needs to be on a lower sodium diet so it's nice to provide 1-2 meals per week for him with no commitment- he usually eats only half of the portion per meal and can easily know the sodium content. My wife and I have tried a few of the meals and been happy with everything - sometimes calories and fat/sodium can be a bit higher than my wife prefers for a single meal but you have all the info before ordering. There's always a salmon option, and a recent "Retro Fried Chicken Bowl" was great if slightly unhealthier than ideal but had a nice portion of well cooked chicken and included a fantastic smothered sauce plus the side of applesauce was chunky, flavorful, and just as good as we would make at home. If you don't make your own applesauce this will show you why you should do it. Nothing but positive so far, and prices generally seem consistent with the "ready to cook" options in the market but you have much less packaging waste and don't need to spend a bunch of time cooking and cleaning up which can be nice during the week. Most dishes are 2-3 minutes heating up in the microwave and end up great. Don't get me wrong, we love to cook but I prefer to use my own recipes and for my dad with limited mobility a quick, healthier microwave meal or a "soft food" option is important. And for my wife and me, this is a nice supplement to our weeknight meals. Bravo to a great local business worth supporting!

This is my third year being a CSA member. Not only is the taste of the vegetables amazing, but…read morerecently it's been significantly cheaper than shopping organic at the big box stores. I go to the farm for pickup every week, and I love the variety, that I can pick and choose between over a dozen different herbs and veggies, the extras they often have, the UPick tomatoes and beans and etc. It's also such a relief to know where my food is coming from, that there are no chemical fertilizers or pesticides in it, that it's not downwind a feedlot so no chances of salmonella outbreaks in their leafy greens, that it hasn't been sprayed to ripen -- the peace of mind itself is invaluable. They have three seasons (spring, summer, and fall) that you can sign up for (that often sell out early, especially the summer season), as well as Thursday farmstands in the afternoon. Also, at the beginning of May they sell seedlings, with prices cheaper than The Growing Place, and most of the plants I buy from there thrive in my garden with no additions required (I put compost in the hole and around the base when I first plant them, mulch around the seedlings, and that's pretty much it, by mid-July I'm getting more tomatoes and basil and etc than I know what to do with).
