The store is absolutely beautiful!! There are lots of samples to try things before you buy, which I love! My favorite department is the bakery. They make so many different types of breads for you to have sliced & take home. I love being able to walk along & try new things, it really makes me want to buy them once I try them. Since there are so many unusual products, it's nice to "try it before you buy it". The cake decorators in the store are amazing. I just ordered 2 lg. cakes from this bakery for a special occassion. They make their own buttercream icing & it is so wonderful. The fudge truffle icing & cake is delicious. They decorated the cakes just as beautifully as others in town, but I think they were even better! Definitely will be competition for those bakers. So, if you need a special occassion cake, you should give Fresh the chance to design it for you, they really are amazing. The head baker spent lots of time with me in creating the design & I so appreciated her help. She was awesome! Would definitely go to her again for another cake in the future. Love this store!! Love the area you can buy fresh tacos or hot sandwiches for lunch/dinner -- they taste really good! I discovered this store when I was looking for a "fresh" ham and no place in Palestine had one. The manager at my local Brookshire's told me about Fresh and I have been patronizing it ever since. I go to Tyler often and make it a point to stop at Fresh on my way home. My only concern is that when they added the wine and beer sections, they eliminated many of the unusual items due to space issues. Also, I used to love to get a glass of wine and cruise the aisles while shopping. (Where else can you do that?). As long as you don't take it outside, what is the problem with continuing that practice. I go there mainly for the items I can't get anywhere else nearby; fresh almond butter being one of them. I would like to see more unusual products, more produce variety, and less of the everyday items. I love the wines but not at the expense of eliminating the more interesting foods. And don't advertise wild caught salmon unless you have it. Went there twice and they only had farm raised. Third time I got lucky. read more

Does anyone ever get the feeling that mostly Brookshire family members post on this site OR paid employees posing as regular East Texas folk? I live on Old Jacksonville, FRESH is convenient for me, it is the closest grocery store to my home. I want it to be my dream grocery store, but it is not. I had such high hopes for Fresh when it was in the planning stages. I go to Central Market, Eatzies, Whole Foods and know what everyone was expecting FRESH to be, it is NOT. At first, FRESH had organic grass fed beef, it vanished. I WANT fresh wild caught seafood, packed in crushed ice and double bagged, so when I get home it is still fresh, that is how Whole Foods does it. Why can't FRESH? I want organic fresh never frozen chicken and turkey sold to me buy a butcher from the butcher counter. I want my butcher to be my friend, but when I get to know someone they are transferred to another store or that is what I have been told. The FRESH, Brookshire's promised the people of East Texas, is a MYTH! It is a "want-to-be" Dallas, Austin, Houston upscale grocery store. I still have to drive to Dallas and order on-line. . I agree with Cyndi D. that valuable space was taken away to put in beer and wine. Like her, I would like to see more unusual products, more produce variety, and less of the everyday items. I want interesting foods and samples to be given out. Let me try items before I spend my money - that tells me you trust that your food is good enough for me to buy. If it is - I will buy it. I want this store to be flow in design and layout. It does not. The whole experience "bottlenecks" around the chef kitchen and the gelato. Moving in and out of the bakery area is""shopping cart roulette', you can be killed by another shopper. I want food that I can not purchase at Super 1, I want this store to be so special I can not live without it - and NOW I can certainly live without it. The taco bar is the best thing about this place, specifically the carne asada and barbacoa tacos. They also have some great live music and the queso is pretty good. But the rest of the stuff is overpriced and the fact that they are still open is amazing. Go for the take out, grocery shop elsewhere. read more

They call themselves fresh,but it is by far fresh! I thought this was supposed to be more like a whole foods but it is just like any other brookshires or grocery store you just have to pay more for the food! They do not carry a huge supply of speciality foods (i.e. organic wines, health foods). I will avoid this place as much as I can...I would rather drive 2.5 hours to whole foods than spend my money here twice a month on groceries. They're organic produce isn't even truly organic and makes me sick if I do not peel it first thanks to the way the clean it and to the stickers they have decided to put all over it which could contain gluten. Their prcies are astronomical for the quality of the produce; not worth the time and money when I need this for my health. Produce goes bad within a week so I can't even buy 2 weeks worth like I was doing in the past. We have to drive 45 mins to get the the store and then back home. Whole foods produce looks and tastes so much better than Fresh even after riding in the back seat of our car for 2.5 hours. We got A LOT more speciality foods for our money and better quality food as well! Fresh will not be getting our $200-$300 every two weeks anymore! read more

Tyler's own attempt at "Whole Foods" or "Central Market." Expensive prices, but you can find specialty items that normally hard to locate. Excellent selection of fresh meat and seafood. The store is difficult to navigate or find items, but Fresh keeps a ton of employees on hand to steer you in the right direction. Everything is narrow, and it's common to not have enough room to push your cart around other shoppers. read more

My family loves to cook and we used to jump at any chance to shop at a Whole Foods or Central Market. We eagerly anticipated the arrival of Fresh and welcomed it with open arms when they finished construction a couple years ago. I braved the crowds that first day and was like a kid in a candy store. The bins overflowed with exotic mushrooms, mountains of potatoes, and colorful cauliflower. I was hooked from Day One and have continued to be a frequent shopper at Fresh ever since. Where else can you listen to (good) live music for free on a patio while watching a beautiful sunset? Or take your kids to cooking classes where they make stuff like banana hotdogs and strawberry ladybugs? In my opinion, Fresh is still the nicest grocery store in Tyler. I feel a sense of community there that I don't feel anywhere else in this town; Fresh is my "Cheers." For me, the amenities offered at the store outweigh the negatives that other reviewers have mentioned. BUT... it has changed since that first day when I reveled in its abundant offerings. There are not as many people jumping at the chance to help customers find items. The selection and variety has declined so that Fresh more closely resembles a fancy Brookshire's than a big city specialty store. I can understand how that happened, as it does not make financial sense for them to stock unusual food when there is no demand for it. They can't afford to keep the lights on and pay for a "Freshologist" on every aisle. My expectations of this store are very high, and unfortunately I am sometimes disappointed. However, I will continue to support them. I believe in keeping my dollars local, and not only is Fresh based in Tyler, they source many local products. They are making a strong effort at doing something different and unique in this market, which is challenging to say the least. My hope is that Fresh will evolve to best meet the needs of the community without sacrificing that uniqueness. I certainly don't know the magic formula for pulling that off, but here's wishing them the best in that endeavor... read more

Its kinda similar to Brookshires but it has a lot more organic choices, fresher choices.huge excellent looking salad and soup bar. my husband loves their almond butter that he can get homemade out of the grinder machine. Only been there twice since we have moved to the area. So far they have a lot of the organic brands we buy. The sushi deli is awesome. we were starving and realized they had some pretty fresh LOOKING sushi. Ya never know with store bought sushi and I have learned once to not cross that line BUT let me say this sushi is so good, so fresh, not fishy tasting at all, the sticky rice was not stale, I got the rainbow roll. It was yummy and we did go back twice for some sushi at FRESH for some quick sushi lunch. Still after the second time, the sushi was so good. Great place to get specific special and sometimes fresher groceries. The one thing i have not been able to find there or anywhere in Tyler TX yet is mascarpon cheese!! read more

We are thrilled having Fresh in Tyler. They have been open a year now and seem to be doing great. I'm sure they are figuring out what sells here and what does not. Very clean store with the employees very courteous. Great selection. We love to go there and eat lunch. Their "made as you order" tacos and sandwiches are very good. Plus, my husband loves this store (he's an excellent cook). Prices for regular items are a bit higher, but worth it if you only need a few of those items. read more

While this store has a great selection, the pricing for the stuff is outragous. It sits at the back of the holly tree entrance where it is obviously trying to cater to the very well to do part of tyler. Compared to a whole foods or equivilent store, the pricing is close to double in most cases. read more

Wide variety of produce and foods, and you can find anything in different states of preparedness.... From whole vegetables, to slices and freshly prepackaged vegetables, to seasoned, to already mixed, to fully cooked and ready to eat on the patio. The dinner deal is great, so is their taco bar. Once you get the hang of proportions, their prices are fair. Just don't make the rookie mistake of making yourself a giant piled-high salad.... they price that by weight. read more

Fresh by Brookshire's is unlike any grocery shopping experience I've ever had in east Texas. The store is clean, the staff is super-friendly, the outdoor patio fosters a relaxed sociable atmosphere for dining, and the variety of fresh food is staggering! From exotic fruits and vegetables, to a case full of freshly made dips, to fancy pastries, this store has something for everyone. I discovered fruits and vegetables I couldn't even pronounce in the produce section, sampled Cajun turkey and a variety of cheeses in the deli, and enjoyed the nostalgia of smelling freshley baked bread and pastries in the bakery. While Fresh starts out as a fully stocked grocery store, other amenities make it one of a kind; a taco and sandwich bar, sushi bar, smoothie/coffee/gelato bar, fresh peanut butter made upon your request, and so much more. I was especially impressed with the selection of pre-chopped vegetables that are available for purchase, as well as the selection of precooked meals that can replace fast food for those who don't like to cook. Even the fountain beverages are healthier, because you have the option to add some supplements for health benefits such as increased energy. The food is on the expensive side, but this is to be expected, and the quality, quantity, and variety of products more than makes up for the small increase in prices. No matter how much or little you purchase, shopping at Fresh by Brookshire's is a truly unique experience for this area, and I hope the store will prosper. read more

There are many things I enjoy about Fresh. Great produce selection, excellent prepared foods, amazing deli selection. Good seafood selection, very good beef selection. There are a few things I don't care for. I don't like the cheese they use for their pizzas, that's just personal preference. The lamb selection is very poor, and their meat counter steaks and ground beef are always on the verge of going over. Today I throughout two steaks I bought yesterday because they had gone bad. My t bone went gray and smelled off (I know grey alone doesn't indicate bad beef, but the smell did) and my sirloin went slimy and sticky. This isn't ok, and personally I think it's because they use an open front for meat selection and their meat isn't kept cool enough. They have this great selection of premium steaks that I just can't trust. Not only is it a financial concern, it's a concern for food borne illness. I've seen there filet starting to turn in the case at times. The meat counter needs to be revamped. It is a health hazard. If not for this I would be giving five stars rather than two. read more

Great meat market, but everything is on the higher end, but this is common for Brookshire's. Most food is a staple & should be priced accordingly, but Brookshire's prices all their items based off customer service. So if this is your thing, then this should be your place. read more

My favorite tacos anywhere. Very good staff/service, especially Andre. Abundance of great topping choices. Usually very quick but if coming for breakfast, get there before the rush that starts about 7:45. After that you may wait 8-15 minutes. Price typically $3/taco. For lunch I have them make a taco version of a Cuban, really good. read more

Made the trip from Nacogdoches to Fresh, and it was a nice treat. The store is BEAUTIFUL, and well stocked. Only big thing missing was the beer and wine selection - too bad Smith Co. is dry. There were people working all over the store, offering advice and ideas - and everyone was friendly and really willing to help. The produce was beautiful, there was a great selection of excellent meats, and we found most of the items we would drive to Houston or Dallas to get at Central Market. Fresh is one of the best places in Tyler for allergy-friendly and gluten-free foods. The atmosphere is great, and they have a wonderful prepared foods section. I am a native Texan and we have lived in Tyler, Texas for 45 years. Also, we have traveled in nearly all states. There is little comparison between Fresh and Whole Foods. Also in the East, the Wegman's grocery chain has stores that are magnificent compared to nearly all others. Certainly Fresh is a good store, but be rather careful. Check to make sure their organic products DO NOT come from Mexico. Organic from Mexico is not necessarily organic. Mexico has virtually no environmental laws and they still use Clordane there. It is an organochlorine compound used as a pesticide. This white solid was sold in the United States until 1983 as an insecticide for crops like corn, other vegetables, and citrus. This is one of the chemicals that has been proven to cause cancer. It is one of the most effective insecticides that were used for years to kill termites, but it should have never been approved to use on food products. It was quickly banned in the United States when the grave dangers were brought to light. Chlordane is still used in Mexico. The reason you have beautiful vegetables and perfect corn coming in from Mexico is the heavy use of insecticides there. ABC and NBC hired professionals to accomplish scientific studies on "organic" produce from Mexico. A certain percentage was found not to be organic as advertised. So buy ONLY USA organic product. Brookshires and Fresh do sell "Organic" produce from Mexico for a very high price. You may not be getting organic. Please do your own research and google to locate information. Ignore the defensive web sites established by Mexican farmers and co-ops. I do make purchases at Fresh, but I wish they would discontinue the importing of produce from Mexico in all of their stores. Tyler is large enough to support a Costco store, a Whole Foods Store, and Brookshires. Costco handles a good line of USA organic produce as does Whole Foods. Increasing our knowledge of what is both good for our bodies and what is harmful will cause groceries stores to handle the best products. If imports from Mexico are left on the shelves to rot, they will stop handling them. Love Fresh! We travel over an hour to shop the great produce, deli and fish counter. Quality items and we have found on occasion even cheaper than competitors on a few items. Yes as a whole they are a little more $ but we are very concerned with what we eat. Wild caught fish is preferred and we will gladly pay more. Great wine department. Bakery, I will say is not the greatest. But gelato is great. Good selection of hard to find items. Not a big fan of prepared items, to-go counter, but that is just our personal taste as we really like to know how the ingredients in our foods. read more

Fresh is one of the nicest "upscale" food centers we've ever shopped. I am glad they have "fresh" Alaskan Copper River Salmon during months the salmon is in season. The staff is super friendly, it's a very nice atmosphere. It's nice to finally step into a more modern place here in Tyler. It's a little more pricey, but it's worth it for the good meat and seafood here. The actual "restaurant" or food that you can get and eat there is not good! Things don't tastes fresh or even smell like it's freshly made. The soup there smells and taste like they just poured a can of soup in there and kept it hot. It just doesn't taste like it was made from scratch like most organic grocery stores that we've been to. I only rated it three stars because whoever did the layout of this grocery store was...well.... an idiot! It just doesn't make sense, Why is the main doors out in the back? I always park on the side because it's more convenient but the side doors, which has registers has this tiny place for two cashiers where you can barely put all your groceries on the counter for them to get checked out! And the way each table is laid out doesn't leave much room for two carts to get by at a time. And forget it if there is two people who ran into each other and is talking, you'll never be able to get through! What were they thinking? There's a TON of unnecessary space behind the counter of the seafood place but no one thought to move that counter back and give the shoppers and their carts a little more space? You can't even stop your cart somewhere because it would take up the whole walking area (by the meat area and bread area is the worse and the vegetables too!)!! Apparently they just had a bunch of people who has never gone shopping at a grocery store design this place because it's terribly inconvenient and crowded and some times frustrating just trying to get through or stand still. For Tyler, they have a great selection of food... Produce, prepaid meals, and all round selection of products. I am from DFW where there are stores like this all over. Fresh is the best Market in Tyler, but is over priced and doesn't offer discounts with brookshire cards even though it's brookshire's store. read more

I live within 4 miles of Fresh and would rather shop at a regular Brookhires,way overpriced to begin with,wished Fresh had just bought a franchise of whole foods,it's a waste of time and money,never did find my brand of humus,which in itself is humorous (tee hee) couldn't resist because I can actually find it at the granary.The meat is different from day to day,tried to buy some Kobe beef and no way.The fish was mislabeled and Not very fresh looking.I was really hoping that Fresh was the real deal but I can buy a lot better looking produce on Rice Road Brookshires.I think the people that own fresh tried but failed miserably Even the bakery isn't that great.i bought some whole grain bread and it tasted very stale.Please Owners of Fresh,get another franchise and dump this huge mess of a so called organic whatever.Revamp your menus and order good fish and meat,don't even get me started on the cheese section or lack of one.Geesh,you would think that a city as nice as Tyler would at least have one really fine place to get good food,check into a place called "West Point Market" in Akron,Ohio it's great and carries anything a chef,cook,or anyone could ever want....Everything is Really FRESH at West Point Market Sure hope you look into it,thanks read more
