Sunny Side Dancewear is located inside the antique store with easy signage to point you inside and up the stairs to the right. I was the only person in the store! It's truly a wonder how such a niche hobbiest store can stay in business and compete with the Amazon's of the world. Keeping that in mind, I wasn't expecting a plethora of options for tap dancing shoes. The owner, Joe, presented me with 2 options-- full grain leather and synthetic. I've been having foot pain from my current starter shoes, and he helped me choose the best pair and size for my feet. I got the Eurotard Toro tap shoes for $100, which is comparable to prices I see online. The other option was Capezio which I think he said was $60-70. The bulk of his offerings were for ballet & jazz (shoes, tights, leotards). But I did make mental note to come back when I'm ready for nicer swing dancing shoes.

So I researched some half soles and decided they were the best option to save my feet. I remembered Sunnyside Dance from way back in 2006 when I took dance the first time, but it was in South East Fresno then, and had a full store and staff. I also visited once again in 2019 when I was looking for ballroom shoes for my wedding. Because of that experience, I already knew it was now a tiny office above an antique store and not a full store any longer. It's a very small space, so most of the merchandise on hand is for children as I'm sure that's the majority of their customers. He did have half soles though, but I probably would have browsed and spent more if there was a decent selection of adult, plus sized leotards on hand. The guy who helped me (pretty sure it's the owner as I don't think he has any staff now) was polite and civil. Definitely not the bubbly customer service type, but not rude either. I like the half soles I got as well, they've been very helpful in class. I researched them online and, although $30 is more than I was expecting to spend, it's actually $3 less than the same brand and model on Amazon. However, you can get something comparable from a less known brand for less than half as much. Since this was the only option he had in his store that would fit my adult feet, I didn't get to choose between brands. Overall, I felt good for shopping local but was a little bummed at the lack of selection he had for adults.

We came for our 12 year anniversary and the staff were quick, nice, and attentive. The buffet type items were all pretty good. Nice range on the charcuterie. The included mash potatoes were a favorite for my husband. The bananas (baked? Fried?) were one of my favorite parts of the dinner. All the meats were not super salty this time around. They rotated the items quick and we got to try a bunch of stuff. Drinks were also tasty. We decided on the mojitos and I was recommended a mango peach with tajin rim (solid choice). For dessert, we got crème brûlée which was just okay. Easy to skip. Small detail, but they didn't have any kind of complimentary anniversary treat (at least mot for us lol). Every other nicer (and even not as nice) restaurant we've been to for our anniversaries/birthdays came with either champagne or a dessert to celebrate. They did go through with decorating what we ordered though. Not a huge deal, but just something to note if you're planning to celebrate anything. Overall, we'll definitely be back again. We had a great time and it felt like a great date night spot.
