A little confusing to find through the pool hall but pretty fun visit overall, drinks & service were fantastic, had fun browsing the books, learning a bit of history. Owner & staff were all friendly, fun, drinks were great & really enjoyed browsing books & decor.

Very professional outgoing staff with a special guest!

Been wanting to come here for years. Was able to come here with my son and wife. Have to say that your experience begins once you have the reservation. You require a password and have to go where there is a doorbell and enter through a secret door. Upon entry, the hostess takes you to the library where you get the run down on the history of the place and the prohibition while sipping delicious cocktails surrounded by books and sitting in leather chairs. We were very fortunate that the GM Preston was there and because it was a slow night, explained his craft of making cocktails. We all loved the drinks suggested. The staff was great! Cannot wait to return!

This was a reservation for a large group of us and the person we were celebrating(who hadn't been and was very happy with the experience). We made a reservation online, showed up about 10 mins late(sorry!) but entered after we gave the password. The presentation was so fun, we had an AP teacher with us who loved the history given! It's super dim and not as quiet as they ask you to be. People were pretty loud. The menu is a good size, I didn't ask if they had a full bar for off menu orders but the Painkiller was my favorite. My friends loved their Old Fashioned. Nothing took too long on a Saturday night, Bryan the bartender was awesome and knocking drinks out while also chatting with the bar top guests.

One of my favorite spots in Tower! Drinks are creative, delicious, and well priced. I highly recommend the Al Capone and the Oaxacan old fashioned.

Ask the Community - The Library at Detention

Is there a way to gift an experience or purchase a gift card?

How do i find my unique Password in reservation confirmation?

I've been there a couple of times and never got a secret password sent to me, but the experience has always been amazing. Just ring locker and you'll be just fine.

What type of hats are allowed ? Are SnapBack like basically a fitted Hat ok?

    Yes!

Does everybody in the group have to bring a hardcover book or just one?

    Just 1

I need to cancel my reservation (unfortunately) and it is telling me that I must call to cancel. There is no number provided to call.. Does anyone know their phone number?

You can edit/cancel your reservation from the Yelp app. Sign in and look are your reservations, then you will see the options.

I haven't received my password for tonight's reservation?

Still go as planned and explain that to the person who opens the door

Does anybody know their phone number. I tried calling detention and they said to visit the website to reach the library but there wasn't a number there? We need to make a…

As far as I'm aware, they do not except telephone calls at the Detention Library.

Did ownership change recently? I went recently and the expanded menu is gone. The owner no longer does the extended introduction/chat.

In regards to the drink menu, we were told that the expanded drink menu left with the bartender and that the new bartender felt it best to streamline/reduce the number of drinks. We went on 12/27 and were provided this info.

Does anyone know what is charged to the card you use for the reservation? My Fiancé's Bachelor Party is meeting there for a few drinks and there have been some additional guys that want to go but there's no info on the fee associated with reservation

Their isn't one, you can put however many guests you want but if they don't show up then they will charge your card

I made a reservation tonight at 9, and it's already 2 and I have yet to receive a call text or email confirmation. How close to the reservation do they send you the password?

I got mine about two hours before my scheduled reservation. If you still don't get a password but you know your reservation went through I would go to the locker and give them your name. Hope this helps!

    Is there a dress code?

From their email: "Attire is business or business casual. Please inform your guests. Ball caps, tee shirts and flip flops are not allowed."

Can we just have whiskey? How is the selection?

You can, but you'd miss a big part of the experience.

I made a reservation two weeks ago for 8 people tonight 7/27 at 11pm. It was confirmed at the time but now the reservation has disappeared. How do I proceed?

    1) Try calling them when they open tonight. 2) Do you have an email confirmation? If so, and you can't reach them, go down there a little early and go to the lockers in the back and then show the door person the confirmation. 3) You might get the… Read more

    Is the entrance Wheelchair accessible?

The entrance to The Detention Hall is wheelchair accessible, but, The Library is upstairs, however, I would call them directly to see if there is alternate/side access to The Library. :)

Can i bring cupcakes for my friends birthday? Do i need to rent a spot or can i just make an rsvp for my party guests?

Not positive, but I think that they would be okay w/ birthday cupcakes. Not sure that you can reserve a particular spot, it's not that big in the Library, maybe room for 20-25 at most. Ask when you make your reservation.

I haven't received a confirmation or password for my reservation for tomorrow night at 9:00 pm. When will I get the information sent to my email?

I got the email the day of, so wait and see. Having the exact password is not a huge deal though, if you show them your reservation they will let you in.

The line went fast, and everyone there was so friendly. The place looks really nice inside and has a cute outdoor seating area. Due to the summer heat, we ate inside but noticed they had little fans on the outdoor tables to keep the bugs away which is much appreciated. The flavor of the food was delicious! The surf and turf was not only good but it was gorgeous!! I am obsessed with the flavor on the shrimp. The only complaint we have is half of our food was cold. The surf and turf and the tri tip was cold, but the chicken was steaming hot and the carbonara was nice and warm. The flavor and cook in the tri tip was good. The carbonara was really good, and the chicken was super tender and had a nice flavor. I can't believe it was only $6 to add on 2 chicken breasts to the pasta. The salmon burger was also good, it was just a little messy to eat. The patty broke into a few pieces that would slide out which made the avocado slide out much easier. The fries were also good. Something that really stood out to us was the size of the portions. You definitely get a bang for your buck here. I would love to return and try one of their salads. They looked phenomenal!

The setup itself is just weird; you have to stand outside and wait for someone to come out to seat you. When you go inside, its small and has kind of a "bar meets saddam hussein's palace" kind of vibe, there is gold everywhere in here. Not to mention its a bar that has been converted into a restaurant, its separated by the check-in desk by drapery. One good point is that all of the staff is very friendly and attentive, although I think our waitress had to cover every table in the place, which seems kind of not great for her! We started with some drinks, they were both good, no complaints there. After they came we ordered our food, we ordered them one at a time. First up was the bacon wrapped dates. These were pretty good, the bacon was cooked well and had some good crisp, it paired well with the dates and cheese inside. The walnut was kind of weird and my wife and I both thought for a second the date pit hadn't been removed. Next we got the corn empanadas, these were disappointing but not awful. The dough was cooked fine but it has absolutely no flavor, like nothing at all. The filling was also cooked ok, the corn had good texture, but similarly, had no flavor, about the only thing I could tint was a tiny bit of cilantro. Once you dip it in the sauce that comes with it, things improve, but we both felt the empanadas should be able to stand on their own. The last tapas item we got was the costillas al ajillo, these were both disappointing AND awful. They are advertised as "fall off the bone fried rib tips, garlic infused olive oil, crisp garlic chips" The only thing crispy about this was the meat itself, it was incredibly dry and had no flavor. There was a little bit of olive oil and some minced garlic, but not "crispy garlic chips". Credit where credits due they took if off the bill, but it was just incredibly bad. We finished with the chocolate flan which was quite good, no complaints there. All in all it was disappointing and I don't know that we would come back.

It's still dark, with dark wood tables -- a very old-school bar in the best possible way. It had been so many years that I didn't recognize any servers, but the woman who served us was very friendly, prompt and attentive. We sat at a small table for two in the bar, and we each ordered a drink (beer for him, cider for me) and we split a full order of nachos. They also brought us water without asking which was a very nice touch. Our drinks were good (mine was in a can, so it was exactly as expected). Husband ordered a dark draft beer that he enjoyed. The nachos were good. It was a generous serving and we liked how the meat was thoroughly cooked and we also liked how the chips didn't get soggy. One thing we both noticed is that there was a real shortage of cheese on the nachos, and we both feel like that's a crucial nacho ingredient: we would have liked a significant amount more cheese. Prices were quite fair for what we got. Anyway... it was a real nostalgic trip into 'Stones and we enjoyed it: we'll be back.
