Part of the Peacock Room group that has more casual clothing. Younger vibe but same wonderful service. While I think they need to stock up on the larger sizes since they do run out of those but they were able to order my new book dress in a size I needed. Chest requires a larger size than my bottom half. The prices reflects the quality and American made clothing. Service is personal and great. If you love Frida, you will love this place. My SIL is so into all things Frida so I had to check it out. They have anything and everything you could imagine with the cartoon or Frida character. They have books, socks, oodles of earrings, scarves, clothes, bags and whatever you can imagine. This is where I go to buy gifts for my Frida fan SIL. So Frida has now saved me TWICE. First time, I had a bday party to go to and I was feeling fat and felt like I had absolutely nothing to wear. I know my girl Rachel has come through for me before with the Peacock room, but I needed something a little more casual than what they usually carry. Thank God she had just opened Frida. I walked in and in less than ten minutes found a beautiful brocade patterned black and white dress that had enough elastic in the material to hug my curves but hide my flaws. I attribute the quickness of the find to her thoughtful layout that makes the store easy navigate. If I recall, I paid somewhere around $50 for the dress and it was a hit that night. I felt amazing. Today, I was looking for a birthday gift and Frida came to the rescue again. My friend who I am buying for is boho chic and quirky so I knew Frida was the go to spot. She had a beautiful collection of colorful scarves. I nabbed one and added a book on 50 ways to tie it! By the time I walked out I was feeling like Martha Stewart B. Smith Gift giving super hero! The venerable pop-up "Emerald," younger sibling of the wildly successful Peacock Room, occupied a special space in Midtown. Not only did it command a beautiful streetside place in the Park Shelton Building, Emerald sold a changing array of treasures. Lotions and potions in mysterious scents, men's shaving supplies, Frida Kahlo finger puppets, ties and vintage cufflinks were just a few of the baubles to be found, and the home decor selection though slim so often had a taste of glamorous old Detroit. A Hudson's dish, a pair of beautiful silver mugs, these were queenly gifts and I was sad to see the pop-up fold for a delicious new idea from Rachel, the owner. Rachel deserves credit for knowing her market and clientele well. Few places in the state, let alone the city, cater to the Modcloth crowd happiest in boho shawls and chunky sweater dresses, organic knit skirts and earthy tones giving a hundred adjectives for brown. Where the Peacock Room caters to the inner Audrey Hepburn, Frida embodies the artistic, natural soul of Ms. Kahlo, a short-term resident of the Motor City. Frida stocks a select range of whispery soft sweaters and thick, chunky leggings or patchwork skirts of buttery leather or brushed corduroy. On a given day, you might find a cinnamon shawl trailing tassels in a bold curtain or a delicate monochrome knit dress with a turtleneck collar and a tendency to give that forgiving hug all clothes should. Not every garment is subtle or modest, just as Ms. Kahlo's palette soared with bold colours, intense textures, and unerring vision. The sugar skull rings and gloriously beaded purses inject bolts of intense hues, and every turn erupts in newfound dimensions. Lively stocks and stockings don't go quietly into the night. Pretty accessories are far from delicate here, a stack of metal bracelets calling attention to themselves or a few gorgeous hairbands and hairpieces adorned by flowers begging to be touched. It's all very pretty. The backdrop is a bit spartan, unless you turn to admire the Woodward Corridor. Staff here abide to the very high bar of customer service afforded by the Peacock Room and Emerald, where employees are known to stay after hours or arrange special emergency visits for those moments when you have a last minute fandango, your shirt got stained and the opera starts in a half hour, or you haven't any time to get down during normal business hours. They go out of their way to find a solution for every body type and an immense love and appreciation for their work is so very refreshing. Sizes run from XXS to plus-size, and no shaming anywhere in between. A special note: if you see something you like, do not anticipate it will be there. Stock has a limited order to prevent two dozen copies of the same dress floating about town, and you may be out of luck if you do not purchase that lovely sweater you were thinking about. Frida isn't to my particular tastes. I favour Peacock Room's sleek tailored lines and structured attire, but I can still appreciate the vision and execution here. read more

I was in town for a meeting and drove by this boutique on the way back to my parents house. I looked through their photos online and decided to go back to shop the next day. I recently had twins and my body had drastically changed and I didn't even know what size I was anymore. I was so glad I came to this store! They had an amazing selection, sizes that fit different body types and a friendly crew. I didn't break the bank and came home with some stellar pieces. Like its namesake, Frida is vibrant, passionate about its craft, and friendly to flexible gender identities. Whether you're a Josephine or a Diego, this Frida will be good for you. But most importantly, they have great clothes in many sizes! I'm no small lady and I love having a boutique where I don't just have to buy earrings. I recently bought an open cardigan in cotton that I adore. And I would not have tried it on were it not for the lovely employee who made a little suggestion after listening to my sweater wish list. All of the staff are helpful without smothering, and attentive without pressuring. It's my favorite thing about the shop actually. You can spend a minute or twenty, just looking at the beautiful clothes, playing dress up, admiring the artful jewelry, and talking to the fabulous women who work there with no pressure. The clothes and jewelry are such good quality that they sell themselves. The staff are there to make sure you enjoy the experience and get the help or advice you need. Owned by the people at "Peacock Room", you can expect the unexpected for goods here. This shop is a little younger, trendier, and casual than PR, but still are artistic, colorful and cool. I wish my budget was bigger with so many unique "pieces" for your wardrobe. If you want an article for you or a gift for a gal pal, this place is a winner.
