I used to love Fridley Optical and Brad. That being said... new ownership has taken over (AEG Corporation). The new people working there are awful. They have treated me with disrespect, very condescending and got very mean spirited when all I was trying to do was get my $417.00 refund back. They couldn't credit my credit card because they received a new card reader that would not credit accounts from the old system. They sent the first check to a wrong address. They make it out that it's my fault and I should go to the post office and straighten it out. Fridley is the one that wrote it wrong. They said they corrected it, but the second check went to the same wrong address, I was lucky enough the postman figured it out and I got it. I'm still waiting for a check from October and the act like they do t know how to take care of the problem. Today the business did not open!!! This used to be a GREAT place for eye exams and glasses, but after recent experiences, our family decided will will never go back. Dr. Petronak is still there and he's great, but the opticians are horrible. Someone else mentioned in a review that they're condescending and that description is spot on. The moment we walked in recently we noticed things had changed drastically. Brad, who was one of the kindest people ever, was gone due to personal reasons, but aside from his absence, the atmosphere was unprofessional and kind if Walmart-y. Frames and lenses are overpriced, warranty is a joke, and it's a disorganized zoo where no one is available to help you. Try to ask valid questions and the staff shuts you down. Don't count on anyone calling you when your glasses are ready to be picked up. You pretty much need to just stop in to ask someone since no one answers the phone when you call. I hope Dr. Petronak leaves before this place ruins his great reputation. Brad, everyone misses you and we hope you're doing okay. read more

If you are looking for progression glasses, this is not the place to go. They do not measure to see where the bifocal should start, it's all guess work. I commented that I had to put my head down to see out the top, and was told that was normal and I would get used to it. I was sent away twice with the comment "this is normal you will get used to it" Come to find out, the bifocal was way to high. My Granddaughter was sent home with the wrong prescription, she commented, and was told it was normal. This lens caused her to have headaches. My son in law, same thing, bifocal was too high. They re-ordered, the 2nd lens did not have the bifocal at all. Also, misinformed on the arrival date of the replacement lens. I left a message, and no one called me back. I was very happy that Fridley Optical offered a full refund. Costco does a great job with progression glasses, they took several steps to make sure the progression line was accurate. And that the frames would work well with progression. read more

I usually don't go out of my way to write positive reviews, but Brad went out of his way to help me, so here I am. Brad was able to give me the best price on my pair of specific frames and lenses out of about ten places I called. He also worked with me outside of normal business hours since my strict work schedule overlapped with the store's hours. I wanted a particular frame in a particular color, and although that color had been discontinued in the US, Brad was able to order it in direct from the supplier overseas. While I was waiting for that frame to arrive, he let me use a loaner frame (same frame, different color). Outstanding customer service. I will definitely be using Fridley Optical for all of my glasses from now on. read more

When I moved back to Minnesota I needed to find new glasses, but wanted frames not everyone would have. I was told go see Brad at Fridley Optical and they were right. When I walked in they had an open appointment for an eye exam and got me right in. By the time I came out of the exam they had already checked with my insurance coverage and then it was time to find frames. Brad came over and found three frames and pinpointed the frame that fit my face best. Since getting these frames I have been getting compliments and could not be happier than I am with the frames I got! read more

I just went here and had an exam and contact and glasses fitting. I was so happy with the optometrist, optical, and receptionist. I got glasses and contacts, they took time to help me pick out what I wanted and taught me how to put the contacts in. The owner has an elephant collection and a small sweet dog sleeps in the corner. I'm glad I found this place! read more

They were friendly, accommodating, and really helped me find the best frames for my face!! They have a lot of cool frames!! I got my vision exam at Fridley Optical in March of 2018 thinking that it would be awesome because of the great reviews. During the vision exam I noticed that the doctor wasn't very thorough especially when it came to my left eye, I didn't think much of it thinking that maybe my prescription didn't change as much as I thought. They did not give me my prescription before leaving the facility (by law they have to give it to you whether you ask for it or not). I didn't realize that I didn't get a copy of my prescription until I got home so I called and asked for a copy of it and the receptionist sent me an emailed copy. I asked for them to send me the PD they measured as well. When I received the email I noticed that the PD number was wrong. Knowing what my number has been for the past 5 years or so, I called them and told them that the number was wrong just in case they were going to place the order for my glasses right away. The receptionist was confused and said she would connect me to the optometrist I worked with. Brad picked up the phone and right away I could tell he was in a defensive mode and had an attitude because he picked up the phone and said "excuse me whats the problem" so I explained that the PD measured is different than the one I normally get. He goes "well who measured it before" I say the Apple Valley Eye Clinic and mention that they used the machine (he didn't use the machine at Fridley Optical). He then said "oh well I'm never wrong but if you want to use that number I am MORE than happy to do that for you but I'm never wrong" to which I said well if it did change I'll use the new number I just dont want to figure it out when I get the new glasses and go through an even longer process. He goes "Well I'm here all day come in whenever and we can even use the machine". Fast forward to a couple of days later I went in and Brad was trying to play it off like I wasnt there or that he was too good to measure the PD again this time with the machine. There was a woman there that measured my PD with the machine and she got the correct number that I normally get. Brad finally has time to come over and says yeah thats what I got, I said no the email said it was a different number. Brad then says "oh it must have been my messy handwriting" and then the receptionist chimes in and says "it was my fault I must have typed it wrong in the email". The whole situation was unprofessional. Fast forward again to when I received my eyeglasses, right away they felt weird. I have worn glasses for most of my life and I know how they are supposed to feel. I felt dizzy when I was walking and focusing on images, I felt nauseous after wearing them for about a day or so. They just didnt feel right and on top of that I dont think I could see as clearly as I should with them on. I stopped wearing them after that day and went back to my old glasses. Not wanting to go back to Fridley Optical to try to figure this out due to being afraid of dealing with Brad's unprofessionalism, I went ahead and got my vision rechecked at a hospital. They gave me a copy of my new prescription without even asking and the doctor took his time with me and checked both eyes thoroughly. The prescription I got from the hospital and the one I got from Fridley Optical are completely different. Which leads me to believe that the doctor at Fridley Optical was wrong on what he measured. I got my new glasses with my new prescription from the doctor at the hospital and they feel great! Brad seems to have a good reputation with his regulars. I am not sure that he would have given the same service to a regular there. If I were you, I would not go there if you are new or looking to get the correct prescription and professional service. Might I add my insurance only covers one pair of eye glasses every two years and one eye exam every two years, so I had to pay extra out of pocket due to Fridley Opticals mistakes and the glasses from them are no use to me. read more
