Traveling through the area and was looking for breakfast. Saw Friederick's on the corner and went in. Exactly what I was looking for. Full of friendly locals starting their day. Sat at the counter and was promptly greeted and served my coffee and take my order. Good selection for breakfast and looks like for lunch and dinner. I love blueberries so ordered the blueberry pancakes plus 2 eggs. I don't usually eat biscuits & gravy but I had a feeling theirs would be the real thing. So glad I stopped. First time in Fennimore, WI: So nice being a Visitor, feeling at home in this place. Service was 'right-there'. Coffee and Breakfast were above average. Over-easy cooked eggs, properly done: Whites cooked, yolks runny - no 'snot'. A reasonable bill topped it off. For me, a Breakfast out is often unremarkable. But I would certainly return to Friederick's. My Wife had Salad bar, which she found especially good. This is an old-school place; priority kept on 'right and raesonable', instead of trendy with less value. read more

We happened upon Friederick's on our drive to La Crosse and are so glad we did! The lemon pepper cod was perfect, and the chicken noodle soup (with homemade noodles!) was incredible! We loved the bread pudding with rum sauce on the salad bar, too. What a treat! read more

The waitress (Kaitlyn) was rude from the start. After placing our drink order we waited until finally I went to get my own coffee refill. Our food came out and it was not as ordered, when we asked her to send it back, she got even more upset with us. As one of our party was eating the omelet the bacon was not cooked. We had to ask her for refills as she NEVER came back to check on the table. When we told her the bacon was not cooked and did not feel we should have to pay for it all she said there was nothing she could do to change it. Another gentleman came along and asked what was wrong and how he could fix it. We explained it and he said I will fix this. read more

This is my favorite old fashioned diner. There's something for everyone and it's usually pretty darn good! They have the usual diner fair: burgers, pies, ice cream, etc. They also have dinners and daily specials. Prices are decent, service is usually pretty good: this can be a pretty busy place at times. Lots of seating. Good for singles or groups. Very cute in a red caboose kinda building. If you're going through Fennimore, this is the place to stop for lunch! read more

I ordered the Beef with Potatoes & Gravy & I was immediately alarmed when the food arrived & the gravy was almost Black, which is a sure sign it's not homemade, & it was so salty I couldn't eat it. I've been to many Diners & Mom & Pop restaurants across the country, and this meal ranked very poorly. My husband wasn't impressed with his Lunch either. The staff was very friendly & efficient though. Perhaps their breakfasts are a better choice here. read more

Places like this are seriously endangered. Friederick's is a true old school cafe and family restaurant, like the kind our parent's and grandparents frequented. On my annual spring Fly Fishing opener trip to Fennimore, dining out is not usually a commonality, considering there's not a lot to choose from in the general area. Upon stopping in to Friederick's, for lunch, I was immediately reminded of the joint in The Wonder Years that Kevin Arnold stops into with his dad after they get lost trying to go get Kevin a new suit. Anyway, I digress. They have pretty good home cooked food. It's solid, it's cheap and tasted way better than fast food. The real attraction are the homemade pies. Each and every pie is made from scratch and there's a dizzying a array to choose from. At $2.50 for practically a quarter slice of the entire pie, it's an AMAZING deal. Service is mostly local teenage girls who'd rather be doing something else and are planning their escape from Fennimore...so that makes for some laughs. read more

Just a ma n' pa diner, but the BLT sandwich is so good. I've never heard a complaint of this place. I get the same thing every single time -- a BLT and fries. It's hard to find places like this anymore. The only caution -- if you drive a big truck, park on the street. Their parking lot is tricky. This is a pretty good place to grab a bite. The menu is pretty basic. Basic breakfast. Basic lunch. Basic Dinner. However, the daily specials are what really shine here. All-U-Can-Eat taco bars and fish fry's, to name a couple. The specials and menu items are very reasonably priced and very tasty. The service was great. My kids and I stopped in at 12:30 pm. The place was pretty busy but we didn't have to wait at all to order or receive food. Also, the waitress was right on top of drink refills. All in all, places like this are becoming few and far between. They have something for just about everyone. You won't be disappointed. read more

We have always enjoyed having breakfast at this restaurant but not today. Waited over an hour for our two meals and the waitress never came back to our table after bringing our drinks. Yes they were busy but after 3 tables were served that came in after us we got up and left. Our orders were simple and nothing complicated. When we told the waitress we were leaving but wanted to pay for our drinks she never apologized for the long wait. She acted as if she didn't care. We will not be back. read more

Really good! The food is pretty basic, but super tasty. They also seem pretty considerate of picky eaters. Pickles came on the side of the sandwich, and the tomatoes, dressing, and cucumbers came on the side of the salad. Only area of improvement would be adding a few more vegetarian options. read more

Stayed in Fennimore for a fishing trip. My son called this place "amazing". Food was excellent and very generous portions. They made roast beef, mashed potatoes with gravy and green beans just like my grandma used to. We ate there twice, once for lunch and once for breakfast, cleaned our plates both times. Sadly we were too full to try the pies but we will leave room next time! Friendly and casual service. Prices were very cheap, too cheap really. read more

I was traveling through and wanted to eat at a local establishment. I enjoyed the deluxe skillet with sausage and my boyfriend ordered the meat eater omelette and was impressed by the generous portion of bacon and sausage. A great local spot for breakfast. Great service. A great stop! read more

I don't expect haute cuisine in a small town diner, however I expect friendly service and decent homemade food for a good price. While the waitress wasn't rude, she was quite indifferent and not really friendly. There is small menu and I opted for the 3 piece cod dinner. The fish was actually quite good but the pieces were closer to fish stick size than a typical filet. It came with a decent fresh green salad when we asked if any of the potato choices were prepared from scratch, the waitress deadpanned an apathetic "no". My wife had beef and mashed potatoes, in which everything in it appeared to be canned or processed, flavorless brown gravy, instant potatoes, white bread and thinly sliced processed beef which was closer to beef lunch meat (Buddig anyone?) than home roasted beef. It wasn't much different that a Banquet TV dinner. The prices were higher than expected from a diner (especially considering the quality). It was a solid disappointment.
