Well, after another women's weekend here...things have changed. They did invest in new mattresses. However, something has changed with the dining/food service and definitely not for the better! Yes it's predominantly a kids' summer camp but adults have very different needs food-wise. Pizza, chicken nuggets and having fried potatoes on repeat doesn't cut it. And the portions were absolutely abysmal. Yes you can go up for seconds, but the service could have been more at the get go. You're feeding folks that have been rappelling, rock climbing, paddling, hiking and fishing all day!! We needed something more nutritious and appropriate for adults!! read more

My son had an excellent first time camp experience here and he'll be returning next summer with his younger sister. He enjoyed the other campers, the campout, activities, horses, and sense of independence. Cabins are rustic but serviceable..and to be honest a little "roughing it" was good for my suburbanite boy. As the parent and packer for this trip, I appreciated the organized paperwork and professionalism of the camp. I had no worries when I dropped him off for the first time and felt that he was very prepared for the week. And when I picked him up, he was nothing but smiles and talked nonstop for the entire 2-hour drive back to the valley. Thank you FPC! read more

My daughter just got back from this camp and let me tell you, I am so disappointed in her experience. With how much they charge for this place, you would expect at least REAL EGGS to be served! They fed my kid powdered eggs the whole week! The kids aren't allow to speak while they are being served food. They have three min to shower, in a roach infested shower room. The "activities" were not fun at all and nothing like she expected. The counselors were not nice to them. Hung out all night and loudly spoke of their "hook ups" while yelling at the kids to shut up. They even put a baby monitor in the cabin so they couldn't talk! I'm so upset she had this kind of experience. This is obviously a money grab. They hired cheap labor from other countries, got the cheapest food, and some ridiculous activities to keep them busy. My son also went and was severely sick on day three. They refused to call us until my daughter had to demand they bring him to the nurse or call me. When I picked him up he was severely dehydrated and ended up having strep and having to get an IV! Also they took my daughters cabin crew into the woods on a four mile hike in the hot sun while the counselors drove next to them! Then they made them stay in a tent in the middle of the woods with spiders all around. The counselors sat up gossiping about boys while the girls had to be completely quiet in the tent. Why was she sleeping in a tent when I paid thousands for a cabin at camp?! In the dead of summer?? I'm absolutely furious. I will be contacting the camp. This was just by first step. Our child is going back to Friendly Pines for their third time this summer. Love the many, many activity options, the wholesome environment, and that the staff actively empower the kids to choose their activities giving them some control over their camp experience. The camp staff are organized, welcoming and helpful. With the passing of the owner and the retirement of the long-time camp director I am very hopeful that the new leadership will be able to maintain the high standards (and maybe update the cabins a bit?) while remaining true to the "let kids be kids" spirit that we have come to appreciate. read more

Heard about friendly pines through a friend, who had heard they made the switch from regular camp to family camp due to covid. So glad they did! It was the perfect way to enjoy a fun family vacation while staying safe. Each family gets their own cabin, which has a bathroom and shower, so no communal sharing. The bunk beds are really meant for kids, but you can bring a blow up mattress or just put the mat on the floor so have space. The dining hall is closed, so you pick up your meals at a window and bring to your cabin to eat. They have set up picnic tables at each cabin, so it's very lovely so sit outside and eat. The food is also fantastic. Very flavorful, good portions and a nice assortment of food. I asked if the campers eat that well and they said yes. For activities they had to close some of their normal camp activities - zip line, water skiing and a couple other things - cause of social distancing, but what is left is still great. Horse back riding, climbing wall, canoeing, archery, tomahawk throwing, and more. They disinfect everything thoroughly between uses. They have the activities really well organized and you have time to do everything, some a few times. The counselors were all amazing, really friendly and very helpful. Not only was the family camp fun, but it gives you a sense for how they run the regular camp and it's very positive. Our daughter is already begging to come on own next summer and we are on board. Two weeks of fun for her, two weeks kid free for us. Double win! read more

Our family loves Friendly Pines Camp! Both my daughter (16) and son (14) will be going again this year for their 5th summer. My daughter will be a CIT (Counselor in Training). As a parent, I love that my children can "unplug" and enjoy their summer with a healthy, fun experience. They are making memories and good friendships. They are not watching TV or playing video games or on their cell phones. I love the camp's philosophy and value system. It's good old fashioned camp fun. My kids are exercising, playing fun games, and trying new activities. My son loves the excellent fencing program and my daughter loves the horseback riding program. They both love the sewing program and they really rave about the food too! All the activities are terrific. They both say going to Friendly Pines Camp is the highlight of their year. So my opinion is mixed. If I was rating solely for how much fun my kids had I'd give it a 5star. My kids loved camp and came home tired and super dirty and happy. So a win in that column. Their management of some things related to communication with parents and taking care of the kids stuff and health - well.. so one of the kids in my daughters cabin was dropped off at camp with lice (at least that's how it was explained to me). Because of this they laundered everything- even stuff I wasn't planning to send to launder during camp. They told me about it when I picked her up. No notice or communication before then. They lost my daughters blanket that my mom had made for her and her pillow case that my mom made for her. They both had her name written in permanent ink on it. They knew about the blanket when I picked her up. It had been almost two weeks and it seems they had done little to try and find it. And no notice that it was missing before I picked her up. Also my daughters pool towel that has her name embroidered on it did not make it home. Again this disappeared when everything was forced to be laundered because of this kids lice. I sent very inexpensive things to camp with these three exceptions and they just "happened" to disappear. Pickup is so chaotic I did not realize everything that was missing til we got home (4hr drive for us). When I called them about it they were very- oh well this happens- we'll put it in a list of lost stuff. So either the camp was very careless with my daughters stuff when she was forced to send stuff out to launder or the service they use is dishonest and cherry picking nice things to keep. I wanted her to have something from home that she could sleep with and be a comfort to her. If I knew they would be so cavalier with my daughters stuff- sigh very disappointing. Oh and she woke up the day after coming home with pink eye. Another gift from camp. So if you are ok with lice and pink eye and realize that anything nice or special will probably "walk" while they are camp and they won't really try to find it... Your kid might also come home not having brushed their hair the whole time - I thought I might have to chop my daughters hair off it was so bad but eventually I got it brushed out. Just mentally prepare yourself for this and if you are ok with that- then know the kids will have fun. read more

When we moved to Arizona from Michigan we never expected to find the camp experience that we had back home in the Wisconsin area. We tried several and finally found the best camp ever. Friendly Pines is outstanding in every way. There is no need to worry about your littles when they are there. They are being fed well, listened to, cared for, socializing, adventuring and just having the full camp experience. So excited that my kids get to experience this place. read more

The pros were that my kid liked the camp experience and their curriculum. The cons were that they had to mail the photo album (that I paid for in advance) to my house instead of giving it to my kid so that he could have his friends sign it like everyone else was doing at the time. Second. Lots of my kids clothes got lost even though I marked every piece clearly. Instead I got back lots of clothing that belonged to other kids and 2 pairs of adult underwear. HMMM!! read more

FPC is great! This was my 6th summer there and I had an excellent experience even with COVID-19 and all. The food there is alright, but they have to make 3 meals a day for 150+ campers, so cut them some slack. The staff members are always really nice. The overnight kinda sucks, but they make up for it with an awesome selection of activities. They are always super welcoming towards everyone! My only complaint would be that some of the counselors can be a little iffy, but FPC has no way of no what a counselor is like until the end of the summer. Most of the time, they're just bad with kids. That's rare, though, since a majority of the counselors are awesome. 5 stars, would absolutely recommend! :) read more

My grandson just returned from FPC for the first time. We waited with great excitement to sign up way last fall. I haven't the space here to tell you all the wonderful things about FPC and the Staff that works so hard. There isn't a thing that is overlooked or missed in the organization of this camp, and I thank Kevin, the DIrector, and Megan, and BeBe ...everyone, for all that you do to provide the best summer to these kids. As a teacher, a parent, and grandparent, I know what I'm looking for: competent, knowledgeable people who truly do love what they do. They know kids well and how to run a camp with 77 yrs. experience to prove it. The values that are taught about respecting others matches mine. There are no prima-donnas, no bullies, just plain ol' fun, life lessons, and new friends. There is always something going on and the kids get to choose which activities they want to do. No one is sitting on their duff here. Much to do and time goes way too fast. The dining lodge serves up homecooked, yummy food! Heck, I want to go to camp! How fun it was to see pictures of kids having fun without their electronic devices glued to their hands 24/7. What a concept! How often do kids these days get to play and enjoy the beauty of the forest? I wish was a kid again! Again, this review will not do justice to all that FPC means to us. You have worked so hard for the kids, and it was noticed. The Counselors, Kevin, Megan, and everyone at FPC please take a bow for a job well done. You are all incredible, beautiful people.
