I recommend you skip this one. Overall an overpriced and unpleasant experience. Here's the story. On the day of booking we were asked to reschedule our booking because the company had overbooked our time slot. We booked our time slot a week prior. We refused because our kids would have to ride when it was much warmer. As we were about to leave for the barn we were force rescheduled. No discount or other benefit was offered for the inconvenience (very much take it or leave it). The starting point of the ride is in a state park and you have to pay the entrance fee ($20) to get to the starting point (the company doesn't tell you about this fee beforehand). The starting point is a worn down office and horse pen with a platform shoot to get on the horses. We were told to arrive 30 minutes prior but the prior ride did not return until 15 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. After the guides were finally available you are left to find helmets out of a bin of old helmets which looked like they were purchased during the Clinton administration. One of the trail guides said nothing the entire time. The other was old and ornery who reminded us to "kick the fart" out of the horses to make them walk (spoiler alert: this was not needed as the horses knew the route better than the guides). Neither guides were personable and gave the impression that we were disturbing their Sunday. The trail was okay. You are in a state park the entire time so there is never an illusion you are on an actual trail. The end of the trail featured a junk yard that really kills the enjoyment of riding horses in the country. Honestly I don't know where all the positive reviews come from. Even if you had different guides you are still stuck with the junk yard and poor organization. read more

Jobe is an excellent tour guide and trail guide. We loved our experience riding with him this past week during our trip to Sedona. The horses were calm and steady. Jobe did a great job giving us instructions so we felt safe and confident getting on the horses and during our ride. He pointed out cool things along the trail, always made sure to give us a heads up if there were hills or anything that might cause the horses to change pace, and checked in to make sure we'd were comfortable and felt okay throughout the ride. The kids weren't sure what to make of a horseback ride at Dead Horse Ranch. It was a wonderful experience especially for the kids who had never done anything other than pony rides. We were scheduled for the ride at Dead Horse State Park but, due to construction there, we were moved to the location outside of Alcantara Vineyards. Our guide was Brandon and he was extremely capable, friendly and helpful. My grandson rode for the first time and Brandon instructed him carefully and made him feel at ease. We rode Charlotte and Freckles and both were of calm temperament. It was fun to ride through the river and the country was really pretty. Found Trail Horse Adventures while searching for horseback riding which would be good for kids and people who have zero experience in horseback riding :) Our 7 yr old was particularly excited and anxious about riding a horse for the first time. We had a great time riding! I've been riding horses since I was 4yrs old, but have never ridden a horse through a river, so this was a first for me! We did the outlaw trail, which goes through a beautiful trail through Dead Horse Ranch, the trail was super dusty as it hasn't rained for a while. Our guide Adrianna was super sweet, knowledgeable and pointed out different birds, plants etc throughout the trail. Of course I would have loved to trot and canter through the trail, but it was a walking ride. The two other riders we were grouped with had no experience. One of the best parts is this is a family owned business that has been on this property for a long time! Adrianna and Christian told us stories about their grandfather who took his first steps on this property, it was pretty cool to hear all the history about their family! My husband and I had a nice ride. I had a beautiful but stubborn horse named Ghost, and my husband rode Mohawk. Seeing the change between habitats was really cool and learning some of the local history was nice. Did not give it 5 stars because multiple comments got political, and misleading information was given surrounding those political comments. My best friends niece is visually impaired and requires special needs assistant, but has been wanting to go on a horse ride for quite some time now. We talked to the people here and they were all so friendly and helpful. They told us they had pony rides for kids and they could accommodate us. While her niece was scared and struggling to get on the horse, the staff members who were working helped calm her down and were very patient. They talked to her the whole time she was on the pony and she finally calmed down and enjoyed the pony ride. We hope to come back here sometime for adult horse rides! read more

Excellent one hour ride today with Devin. My horse, Diablo, provided me a great ride through the scenic landscapes of this Arizona State Park just outside Sedona. Our ride was the easy trail and was primarily on flat surfaces, with just a few spots with a small incline or decline. We went even waded across a river. There is a $7.00 fee to be paid at the entrance to the state park. We had planned to do some hiking after the trail ride, but it started raining about 15 minutes before our ride was over, so we never had a chance to explore the park. read more

Our guide was kind and helpful in getting us set up for our ride, and provided lots of great conversation and interesting historical/natural information about the area we were exploring. I booked my family's ride online, and it was the simplest process ever. I actually made an error during the booking process, but a quick phone call cleared it up in a jiffy! The facility is located inside lovely Dead Horse Ranch State Park, which has interesting riding trails. When we arrived, we were cheerily greeted, and my family was matched up with horses that best suit their riding abilities (novice). Our guide, Richard, grew up on Dead Horse Ranch. His storytelling of the ranch's history provided us interesting details from everything from the working orchard to caves to medicinal uses of native plants to rattlesnake habitat. Horses were well behaved and beautiful. Sam was a great guide as well and ride was very scenic and relaxing. The ride unfortunately was only 45 minutes long and not a full hour. Upon arriving at our scheduled time we were told we were late and suppose to be there 30 minutes prior. Email confirmation did not indicate anything and we felt like we were "penalized" on our riding time as a result. We also waited for other people to arrive after we were told we were late. Also be aware that you have to pay another $7 to enter the park which came as a surprise. I recommend that they be more transparent with riders in advance on the arrival time and fee at the park. read more

The best trial ride I have had. I was extremely thrilled to have experienced the Outlaw Trail ride at Trail Horse Adventures. I was matched to a great horse and an extremely comfortable saddle. Our tour guide, Chris, was great and informative about the local plants and history of Dead Horse Ranch as he had a personal connection to it. This family run ranch is amazing. Our tour was with two of the 11 kids in the family. Jacob, and I think it was Jeremy. They where the most adept confident and gracious guides you could ever hope for and only 11 and 12 years old. My kids couldn't have done that at there age so beautifully. My daughter granted a wish on my bucket list and got me a horse ride when we visited Sedona AZ. Trail Horse Adventures through Dead Horse Ranch didn't disappoint. Adrianna was our guide and she was kind and very knowledgeable. She also spoke clearly enough for those of us bringing up the rear and at a point in a clearing she made sure she took pictures of each of us. So here's the deal with me. I was very nervous but my horse Dusty was a super sweet pony and seemed to lead me instead of the other way around. Full disclosure...because I was not paying attention, I reached out to pluck a piece of branch that swung out and caused the wooden sign below it to move and hit poor Dusty in the butt. He jolted forward and I fell off! Adrianna was right there to help me up and check to make sure I wasn't hurt (I wasn't, just my pride) She also helped me back up on the horse and told me I was brave to do it as some give up and have to be driven back to the ranch. Adrianna, I just want you to know, I wasn't hurt and after a couple of hours to be sure, my daughter and I laughed until we cried! I will ride again! read more
