I've been hanging out in Springfield, MO after completing the first half of a classic 'road trip'…read moreacross the Plains from Portland, Oregon. The occasion was an expenses reimbursed business meeting this week. Springfield is a great place to visit- lots of awesome food spots and even a Portland-esque coffee culture- at least downtown. I digress, after all you aren't here to hear about ANDY's FROZEN CUSTARD, HEMMINGWAY'S at Bass Pro Shop or LAMBERT'S (the Home of Throw'd Rows (rolls))...you want to know about OIL CHANGES. Since I'm leaving EARLY tomorrow morning, I thought I'd better change the oil today. It's one of those "little voice" things- you know, the times that small voice in your head says, "I really should check the tires (or insert your other favorite travel trouble noun here)". You know how it goes, the one time you say "Naw...." you have a major blowout or something similar. So. I'm off to do the oil change. During my meetings, I had met Ramona from our national office at lunch. She told me about her family, their hobby of SPONSORING RACE CARS, and her husband that owns this Pro Lube at Monett, about 35 miles east of Springfield. It was a beautiful day, and what's better on a day off during the middle of a cross country road trip that meandering through the farmlands to catch some awesome scenery? So that's what I did, with the objective of locating Romona's hubby and their business. After all, I like to keep money in the family (so to speak) when I can, so to me it was worth the trip to check his place out. Let me tell you. Doug has an AWESOME little shop/race car mini museum! And he is a wonderful guy that took great care of me. Hi guys were fast, efficient and courteous. His lobby was full regulars which spoke VOLUMES. If you're passing through check Doug's Pro Lube out. Take a look at his collection of dirt track race memorabilia. If you live near Monett, I just have 2 words to say, "Lucky You!" See you next time Doug! PS Everyone-- Be sure to find out when his car next races for a cool-night-out-thing-to-do and cheer them on!

I would NOT recommend doing any business with Wellbaum's Tire and Auto and West 60 Auto Sales…read more Back in May of 2013, my vehicle was having engine troubles, and they told me it wouldn't be worth fixing. They recommended a used vehicle from their lot for me to purchase. I agreed and traded in my old vehicle for $400 down towards the purchase, plus gave them $400 dollars. It took months for them to get to get the vehicle ready, by fixing the air conditioning, and other repairs to make it reliable for me. I had reached my limit, but felt I should keep my agreement with them, due to they were supposed to be friendly with my family. Finally in July of 2013, I was told the vehicle was ready, and I picked it up. After only driving it one day, the ignition switch went out, and it wouldn't start leaving me stranded. They towed the vehicle back to the shop. Then after several more weeks, they again said the vehicle was ready. However after this they tried to bump up the original purchase agreement by $700.(Later, I found out they had let a meth addicted employ work on it, who broke a part, and they had to resend for a new part, and tried to charge me for their folly.) Then when I went to register the vehicle, the DMV said there was a lean against the vehicle, and I couldn't register it. Wellbaum told me they would take care of it, and after almost a month, Wellbaum decided to cancel the sale, due to their inability to give me a clear title. Shortly afterwards, they sold the vehicle to someone else. After attempts to get a refund have failed, I have realized that I got skunked. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND BUYING A VEHICLE OR HAVING ANY AUTO REPAIRS DONE BY THIS BUSINESS! Not only is their shop filthy with chewing tobacco spit, car parts, and grease everywhere, and potentially hazardous, but they will try and rip you off, and take forever to do it!

We were given the runaround for days and finally had to sit there for two hours while he finished…read morethe job. Two weeks later, the problem surfaced again, and we had to pay again to have it fixed by another (more reputable) mechanic. The guy who runs it is very nice, but that doesn't make any of the bad service worth it. Very disappointed.
