The atmosphere was cute and cozy with a family-oriented home towny feel. Location was perfect, being located right across the street from the city park. Food was simple but great. Ordered a hot melt sandwich, cheeseburger veggie soup and a bacon cheese burger. Everything came out warm and presented well. Taste was fresh and simple. Recently took my preschooler on road trip to Wamego. On the advice of a local we stopped at Friendship House for cinnamon rolls. She had a classic and I had a pecan roll. We had a warm welcome from our wonderful server, Margaret, who shared some history of this adorable town. I am traveling for work and wanted to see the famous yellow brick road. I saw several people coming in and out of the restaurant so decided to stop in and eat too. They had a muffin sample - strawberry and banana that was seriously so good. I ordered a breakfast burrito and you get three add ons . It was huge! I have been eating at this restaurant for years and have yet to have a bad experience. Their specials are always fantastic but one of their best dishes in my opinion is their French toast. You'll definitely want to add whip cream and strawberries to this! Their bakery is amazing and I cannot resist getting some cinnamon rolls before leaving. The service is always attentive and kind. My husband and I stopped in here after visiting The Oz Museum. What a good decision. I had the Grecian stuffed burger and cucumber salad and it was delicious. The burger was cooked perfectly, the buns were homemade and the cucumber salad was perfect on this hot day. My husband had the same, but with potato salad. We also took some fresh baked cookies to go and had a couple on the way home to Wichita. They were soft and chewy, just the way we like them. Went here for lunch with the parents and had a lovely time. It's small and quaint inside, and makes me think of a tea parlor. Their lunch menu is mostly sandwiches and soup, but they are good. What makes the sandwiches is the roll. The wheat roll just tastes satisfyingly hearty. The soup is great, too. What made my day was the dessert of the day - an eclair! Best eclair I've ever had. If you've only ever had eclairs from say, Dillon's, you need to try one here. The pastry was perfect, the cream inside was amazing, and the chocolate ganache was decadent. But wait! There's more! They've got a lovely bakery counter with lovely things to eat. Huge cookies, awesome-looking cinnamon rolls, cake, and cupcakes. They also sell bierocks, though I didn't get to try one of those. I want to try this place again. We visited during the Tulip Festival in April. It was crazy busy and we managed to get what was obviously, a new girl. She hadn't been trained on the register and barely knew how to tell us what food was available. Service was slow because it was so crazy busy, and we were forced to eat outside (I hate eating outside, always) because it was too full inside. None of this is really Friendship House's fault - which is why I want to give them another shot. Obviously, they are a popular venue with great offerings. We ordered pulled beef sandwiches with potato salad, and they tasted good. I think. However, between the gusts of wind blowing everything around and the screaming baby, noisy toddlers and general chaos, I just couldn't enjoy myself. The reviews tell me this place is a hidden gem. I would love to experience that myself. I make occasional trips to Wamego and hopefully, the next time around, we can get a more copacetic experience. In the meantime, I'll leave this as a three star review. Average, but not bad. read more

Call me naive, but my theory is that the key to overall long term success for a business is to provide: a) an excellent product, b) with excellent customer service, and c) at an excellent price. Well, traveling through Wamego, KS today, coming up from Tulsa to St. Mary's for its annual Christ the King Festival, I witnessed this theory materialized at The Friendship House. It's of-the-heart Victorian charm, polite and dutiful service by our waitress Chelsea, and top-of-the line gourmet burgers really hit the spot. The owner and chef Jake even dropped by our table for a long spell to see how we were and tell us the restaurant's historic foundation. We will definitely be back! read more

I felt like the cookie monster in here! Selfishly had to leave with a big box of them to take on the road. Amish sugar, chocolate chip, snickerdoodle...and those cinnamon rolls! YUM! The owner always Makes me laugh and smile when I go in there, he's very pleasant and always makes sure your getting the best. You can call in ahead which is great too. Their cookies are to die for. They're all great but the fudgies, sugar cookies, and chocolate chip oatmeal are my favorite. We buy them by the 2 dozen lol! After eating we purchased a rhubarb pie to take home the pie crust was great but the filling was so tangy and was in need of more sweetener allot more to be exact.
