When I arrived at her gravesite, I was saddened to find that her marker was dirty and covered with dirt and grass. I asked one of the Rose Hills employees for assistance. He told me that someone had already been called to help, but after waiting 15-20 minutes, no one came. Because I didn't feel that he was being truthful, I took a picture of the truck as it drove away. A short time later, Alejandro came over and kindly asked if we needed assistance. Ironically, he was in the same truck that had previously been there. Despite the extreme heat, Alejandro took the time to help us with kindness, professionalism, and compassion. While it was disappointing that the first employee was unwilling to assist us, I want to publicly recognize and thank Alejandro for his outstanding customer service. Employees like him make a lasting difference. Job well done, Alejandro! Lastly, Happy Heavenly Birthday to Destiny Williams, Kim Branch, and my beloved Aunt Renee Antwine on this July 27th. I have volunteered here a few times and I must say I love it! The staff here are very friendly, shout out to Lucy, Carlos, & Jerry! The directions are clear, the workload isn't too excessive & we get breaks in between shifts. LA Food Bank also provides coffee, water, & light snacks. One of the rules while volunteering here that some may have an issue with is that you can't wear headphones/earbuds while on the assembly line, but there's music playing in the background & their selection of music is very good. It's mixed genres which I like a little of all music so this is right up my alley. I love that at the end of a volunteer shift they provide us with the numbers of how many pounds of food we helped sort through, or how many food kits we put together, etc. It's honestly just a good vibe here & it feels good to get involved and help others.
