Professional Contractor here: There are two types of contractors out there, service/handyman contractors and new construction contractors. I want to believe these guys are good at new installs, but they were horrible at diagnosing a problem. I have a problem with my fan coil unit leaking water and shutting off. Leaving me with zero air. I told him what I believe is wrong with the Fan coil unit and other items such as possibly low 410A freon. He quickly jump on that and said " you must have low Freon and that is your problem" without addressing anything else. He then begins to tell me it's $195 per pound for Freon and $2500 to replace all my line sets. I requested he show me the readings and without surprise everything was at normal operating levels and no leak. He then said he had to call a different company to come out and diagnose the problem and they would come back another time. The line set and Freon was not the problem and they were trying to make a quick $800 and overload my system. This would result in an overloaded system and freeze up my unit. Moral of the story, I would not trust the integrity of this company. If you don't know what you are doing just be honest and say " I don't know what's wrong, I can't help you." read more

This is for technician Tomer, who recently last month in March...exemplified "Exceptional" communication, diagnosis and troubleshooting, regarding issue with my ac/ heat York Unit, that was cutting on and off, along with not reaching set temperature rather it was ac or out heat mode. Due to Tomer's thorough expertise - he discovered the issue was having a dirty flame sensor and the motor (must be replaced) on our York unit. What amazed me was that Tomer, not only did he order the part, but made sure (my current defective motor) was under warranty, which saved me a lot of money. If I could give Pioneer 500 stars, I would. On a 95 degree Friday afternoon, (87 degrees inside my house) my AC conks out. Thermostat blank. System won't turn on. What am I do to? My husband is practically crying it's so hot and drenched in sweat. My elderly dog is panting and miserable. Called 5 places, no one could come before Monday at the earliest. Pioneer said they could come that evening, between 5 and 8 pm. At 6 pm, the wonderful ELAD shows up: cheerful, kind, efficient, super knowledgeable, ready to explain everything, calm and personable. Gave me lots of useful info about properly caring for a heating and air conditioning system. Fixed my problem quickly, didn't not upsell or overcharge me. Checked all parts of the system, including air filter. Was in and out in a jiffy, AC blasting again. Phew! Pioneer will now be my go-to place for any maintenance and service my system needs. Couldn't imagine a nicer, better tech than ELAD. The people who answer the phones there at Pioneer are also GREAT (I had to change my appointment hour a couple of times, and they were only helpful, no attitude or annoyance.) Relieved and glad to have found Pioneer. I recommend them ultra highly! read more

Called them for service in October 2025 because my HVAC compressor would not start. The technician quoted me $100 for the initial diagnostic, $350 for a capacitor replacement, plus $410 per pound for missing R-410A refrigerant + labor for recharging the system (I was apparently missing 3 lbs), a $1,200 leak check, and potentially more if they could not find the leak. I declined the refrigerant and leak check work and asked only to address the immediate compressor-start issue because the unit is about 15 years old and I did not want to put major money into it. The interaction was unpleasant. I said I wanted to hold off on the refrigerant, and how in principle one could purchase it for $20 per pound after taking a short EPA test. The technician became argumentative and talked over me for an extended period about legality, expertise, inventory costs, and why the pricing was justified. I understand companies have overhead, but 1. this company was charging north of $1000 in just labor for a 30 min job (yes, I looked up the procedure) and 2. I felt pressured and talked down to. I agreed to the capacitor replacement because I was aware of the electrical risks and wanted the system running. During the work, there was a spark while the capacitor was being removed. After that incident, the control board no longer worked, and the technician replaced it at no charge. I appreciated that, but it did not inspire confidence. Fast forward to May 2026: the HVAC would not start again. Another diagnosis found that the capacitor installed less than a year earlier was completely dead. More importantly, the installed capacitor was rated 50+5 µF, while my unit calls for 45+5 µF. That is a basic part-spec mismatch. I was also told the Titan Pro series capacitor they used was not made in the USA, unlike the Titan HD or the trusted Amrad brand. Now, if you were in the business of making money off of HVAC service, would you install a capacitor that failed every year or every 10 years? I paid a premium price for what should have been a straightforward capacitor replacement, dealt with a high-pressure upsell, and then later discovered the wrong capacitance rating had been installed. Based on that experience, I would not use this company again and would recommend getting a second opinion. read more

Avi came right on time, and was very helpful in explaining the options I have - repair versus replacing the unit. I didn't feel pressured to replace, although he did recommend that as the better route overall for longevity. Due to my budget, I ended up repairing the unit at a reasonable price. They were super quick and the unit was running ultra smoothly and even sounded better (less loud and noisy after they replaced a dying component).
