Found this gem through social media. Needed a bit of a change. Went in with an open mind and let Lisa make the plan. Glad I did! She took my half head which was just blonde foils and turned it into a balayage look. With the darker roots extending down. Much more natural and ready for fall, less maintenance. Great prices. I completely regret coming back here. My hair alternates between looking like the Rachel (remember when she had that haircut back in 1994??) and Keith Urban's haircut (which he has rocked for 30 years, btw). So I decided to give Fringe a second chance for two reasons: 1) When researching on Yelp, many salons in my area had inconsistent. Fringe consistently had 5 stars. 2) The last time I went, even though you couldn't see a difference in my hair color, both Mike and Lisa were very nice. I figured maybe while they weren't great at coloring Asian hair, they probably knew how to cut hair, considering their reviews. I went on 12/9 for a haircut. I brought a picture. Lisa looks at it and says, "Oh, so you want kind of like a long bob." I said, "I guess, but I don't want it shorter in the back." Before she started, I also told Lisa that I wanted short layers for volume and that I want the layers to blend in, and, if possible, I wanted the haircut to minimize my angular jaw. She indicated that would put some layers in the front to frame my face. It is so weird, because both times I've been there and told Lisa what I wanted, she seems to understand completely. Before she starts, we are completely on the same page; however, her execution is quite lacking. End result: 1) Lisa cut the back shorter than the front. 2) The layers are very choppy and the ends are blunt. 3) The haircut made my jaw look wider. She somehow minimized my cheekbones, but made my jaw wider, giving my head the appearance of a triangle shape. Lisa first washed my hair, then cut it a bit. As she dries it, I think "uh...where are my layers?" However she explained that she does a dry cut. "Perfect!," I thought, as I had dry cuts done before and was pleased with the results. However, when she dried my hair, she curled it with a round brush. I thought that was weird, but she is the expert, after all. However, when curling, she flattened the hair on top while curling the hair below my ears, so the bottom part looked like the bottom part of Farrah Fawcett's signature hair style. I should have said something then, but again, she is the expert, right? So at some point, she tells me she's done. I'm taken by surprise, as my haircut is nothing like the picture I gave her, except for the length. I asked for some more layer, as the ends look quite blunt, and hope that the layers will make my haircut look more like the picture. (I want to note that while I would have loved if my hair came out 100% like the picture, I know that's not a realistic expectation. I would have been pleased with an 80% similarity.) After she puts the layers in, I'm still not pleased, as it still looks nothing like the pictures. I guess she sensed my displeasure, so she starts putting more layers in and says that she's making it more choppy, which I DID NOT ask for. But again, as she's the expert, I figure "choppy" means something different than I thought. (Spoiler alert: "choppy" means what I thought it did, AND it has the added bonus of making my hair looking it's missing chunks in various places) After she puts in the choppy layers, she proclaims she's done. Not only did it not look anything like the picture, it didn't even look good on me. I'm quite disappointed, but rather than try to do something about it, Lisa and Mike try to convince me it looks good, and even made excuses as to why my hair wouldn't turn out like the picture. Lisa even said, "In my professional opinion, we shouldn't cut it anymore." Like, whoa!, nobody said you weren't a professional. I found it to be rude and condescending. I had a commitment later that night, so I kind of accept that this is all they're going to do. She knows I'm disappointed, so as she rings me up, she indicates, "if you don't want to tip, just put zero." I ended up tipping, because I can't bring myself to not tip. Afterwards, I thought about how she said this, and I think, "If she knows she did a bad enough job that she suggests I don't tip, why did she even charge me?" But in all fairness, she did give me a haircut, albeit not the one I wanted. Over the next few days, I pray and hope that my haircut would look more like the pictures I brought in, or that I would grow to like it. I gave it a few washes, and parted it differently hoping that would help. It did not. Finally, on Thursday, 12/14, I decide that something needs to be done about it. My husband's holiday party was in two days, and I cannot show up with this hairstyle. I give Fringe Salon a call, hopeful they will try to remedy this. However, I was wrong. Mike picked up the phone and refused to let me come in. He even said, "I don't want to get anywhere near that hair." Wow, rude. After maybe 5-10 minutes on the phone, his resolution was to refund me. Yes, because that will magically fix my hair problems. It's been a few months, and I've been living in a ponytail. The Plastics have shunned me and I have to eat lunch with the art freaks. Jokes aside, I feel ugly. read more

Lisa and Mike are true artists. They do a phenomenal professional assessment of your hair wherever it is at with cut or color, then envision with you where you want to go with your style, and then help lay out a plan to get to that vision in a way that is healthy for your hair. I get so many compliments on my hair and the only follow up response I have is to tell that person they need to go to Fringe. I can let my hair just air dry most days because Lisa knows MY hair and cuts it in a way that it naturally falls nicely into place. They really take the time to learn about your hair and tend to it in a way that is individualized, they don't just use some technique that might not translate well for you. They're amazing technicians and I just can't recommend them highly enough. Also, they're super hip, up to date on all the latest trends, and just generally really pleasant to be around! read more

In the midst of a minor quarter life crisis I decided on a whim to chop about 8 inches off my hair. My hair has been LONG for the past 15 years after a horrendous bowl cut I had in the third grade. Called up fringe and was lucky to get an appointment for the next day. At first glance, the salon is super cute and meticulously clean. Lisa is the absolute sweetest person and I immediately felt comfortable with her literally doing whatever she wanted to my hair. She is truly an artist. Her boyfriend/co-owner Mike helped dry and style my hair since I have so much of it.. Needless to say I felt like royalty. This was by far the best cut and service I've ever received at a salon. I recently moved to the Weymouth area and was nervous about finding a new hair salon. I decided to try Fringe based on their positive reviews, and am so glad I did. Lisa listened to what I wanted and did exactly that. She did an excellent job trimming up my curly hair in a way that added bounce and shape. She was super friendly and we chatted the whole time. Since it was my first time they gave me a half-off discount, which is an added bonus. And while Fringe is on a busy street, they do offer parking at the bank next door. I've been coming to Fringe ever since they had their previous location in Weymouth, I can't believe it's been years already!! But I definitely won't be going anywhere else :) I am naturally blonde & had box dyed black hair for years, which is extremely difficult to get out. I started coming here once I decided to ditch the black hair for good.. Mike & Lisa were very honest about how long it would take for me to go blonde, which I appreciate. Their prices are also very reasonable especially compared to other salons that have overcharged me in the past. Yes it took a lot of time & patience, but it's 100% worth it. I went to Mike for a keratin treatment and am very happy with it. I specifically asked for a defrizzing treatment as opposed to stick straight & got the result I wanted. My hair is softer, smoother and takes less time to blow-dry. Over the years I have tried different types of keratin treatments by various hairstylists and I think Mike is the best. He is really nice, unpretentious, knows his stuff and wants his clients to be happy. He is not pushy at all but has good recommendations if you ask. He suggested pureology shampoo to maintain the treatment and it works well. As I was leaving he told me if I didn't like anything to be sure to come back - he stands behind his work. I found Fringe Hair Salon when I was researching a new hair dresser for my daughter and I. I came across Fringe and right away the name of the salon just sound sophisticated and the review were awesome. My daughter has gone to few salon requesting a very natural balayage color and it hasn't been successful. She was ready to give up! Today, we met the dynamic duo and they made magic happen. First of all, having both of them working as a team is truly amazing experience. They spent a long time talking and listening to my daughter. The consultation process made us feel very comfortable and confident of how everything was going to turn out. I sat there and watched this entire process and transforming her hair to exactly what she wanted. They both were wonderful to chat with and their technical and vision skills were just incredible. They made us feel like we have known them for years! Everything felt like it was meant to be! "It must of been Destinee" My daughter is a very reserved person and doesn't shared her thoughts often! After reading the small bizarre novel below, I felt I had to comment on my great experience at Fringe. I had a horrible color job at another salon and knew it would be a task to fix it. After a lot of research, I decided to try Fringe, and I'm very glad I did. All of the staff were very friendly and professional, and all of the customers looked happy. was really excited to go here, but regretted it as soon as i left. went in for lowlights, as in i have blonde hair and wanted to go darker. my stylist did not agree with me going darker at all, and ended up convincing me to go lighter in some areas, and darker in others to create depth. i figured she knew what would look best, so i reluctantly agreed. well, she did the lightener first, washed and toned, then 'forgot' to put any actual color in my hair and sent me on my way. she charged me full price as if i got colored. not to mention, my hair is already blonde as can be so the lightener didn't make a difference. i'm all for recommendations to your clients, but in the end you should be doing what they want rather than what you want. read more
