I have been going to Zona for at least 8 years. I first worked with Zach who was an absolute treasure and an excellent colorist. I was so sad when he left though happy for his next adventure. I was randomly placed with Heather and I have to say, it was kismet and I absolutely adore her! She's great with color and does well in guiding me; especially when I come in with the most vague concepts or am unsure of what I would exactly like to do (probably every hairdressers nightmare, but she is a great sport and so very patient and collaborative with me). The salon is located in a very convenient location with plenty of parking. My interactions with all staff have been pleasant and they have a great selection of product to choose from as well located in the lobby! read more

Had my hair done here back in 2018 and had okay results, came back today to use up a gift card i had and the lady at the desk was not at all friendly and frankly was quite rude when I was asking about product pricing. As someone with very long hair that is currently (very noticeably) in need of some love and dye lol i would think she would want my business as a potential client but she did not seem interested in making long term customers at all. She was kind to the regular clients that were already in there or checking in, even on the phone she was pleasant but i very much seemed to be an inconvenience. I don't usually write reviews BUT I had such a great experience and honestly, this is the prettiest I've felt in a long time. I almost cried happy tears after seeing the end result. I wanted to thank Danielle for the amazing highlights and the trim. I've never seen anyone work so efficiently while also making me feel so at ease and comfortable. She was so much fun to talk to, was making sure water temperature was comfortable, checking to make sure I didn't feel any pulling when brushing out my hair, etc. I felt absolutely zero discomfort at any point whatsoever, everything was relaxing--I just thought it was really sweet. I was very disappointed with the services at this salon. The front desk was very rude and in comparing my receipts from same services at this and another Aveda salon, saw that I was paying $50 more for the same service. I was charged $25 for using Aveda color at this Zona Aveda salon, not that there was even a choice of color product, and another $25 for "glossing" treatment which the other Aveda salon doesn't charge for or even consider a chargeable service. I was very dissatisfied with Zona and will not return to this salon or recommend it to anyone. read more

And even when I said No, I don't want to have my hair thinned, she went ahead and did it. Went home with an uneven, extremely thinned hair. When all I went in for was a trim of 3/4- 1inch. Hello, since may 2022, the salon has cancelled two appointments on me and did not even try to rebook me. Both were for my daughter and her latest appointment was for tomorrow and they called last night to tell me it wont be available. The lady offered me times during the day, knowing that i cannot make it since I work and could not get off the phone fast enough. Not all the dressers are qualified as much as they claim. If you are doing just a hair cut, you are not worth it to them, since its not as much money as a color. Please try a different salon. Zona Salon is iconic in Boston/South Shore! My mother used to go to the Boston salon in the 60's. Needless to say the family knows the hair business and therefore how to hire stylists. Heather Marshman is a young stylist who is dedicated to her craft. Fabulous for short cuts which always tells you a stylist's level of perfection. Meredith listens to her customers but is not afraid to add her take on what would look great! The salon is very pleasant with ample room for privacy. Receptionists work hard at accommodating client's needs. I think the original Zona's would be very happy with their legacy!!! read more

Came in for my hair appointment earlier today, I purchased a Groupon for a full foil with a conditioning treatment and a haircut on sale $72. I was running a few minutes late due to traffic, they didnt mind. All Services I got were top notch with a Groupon and I appreciated that :) I asked for her (bridget) to add red in my hair cost an extra $20 which was totally worth it!!! she did exactly what I wanted to my hair. I walked about with a long bob. I felt fabulous. The only negative thing I have to say was the front desk girls who were there aren't friendly or welcoming when I was paying. I have been going to Zona Salon for over seven years now. My best friend since childhood has worked there for over 12 years and I have been getting my hair done by her since I was 15 years old. I have trust issues going anywhere else so clearly I would have followed her wherever she went. However, it is just a huge bonus that she works at one of the best salons I've ever been to. It is located in a nice area Norwell, Massachusetts. Parking is very easy as there is a fairly large lot right behind the salon. When you walk in, there are always very young and cute girls working there who check you in. Prior to your appointment you will receive either a phone call or a text message confirming your appointment. I have never had to wait, they always take me right away. The services are so outstanding. They are so professional there and I have never left there being unhappy whatsoever. My hair always looks amazing and feels amazing. The great thing about the salon is that the stylists really care about the quality of your hair and not just how it looks when you leave. They recommend products, they use healthy, Aveda products on your hair, and they are always willing to give you tips and expert advice on how to properly care for your hair yourself. It's more than just your average salon experience, it truly makes you feel like a queen when you leave. Typically when I go, I get an hombre/blonde highlights, a clear gloss, and a trim. The clear gloss locks in moisture to your hair's open cuticle and makes your hair look and feel healthier when you leave. Everyone wants to look like a Panteen Pro-V commercial when they leave a salon, and you will definitely have this experience leaving Zona. When you are finished with your services, you will check out downstairs with the girls who checked you in. You will pay for your service and then leave your tip. They will give you cash for your tip that you get to put in an envelope for your stylist and I always like to leave a cute note along with that. Overall, they work quickly and efficiently and the prices are a little bit above average, but that was what you would expect for such great services. I definitely recommend you try Zona Salon. Oh my goodness my hair is so awful I could cry. Went in for a color told the girl I wanted it really light at my root. She told me she could put some highlights in also to make it lighter. I was sooo overdue for a haircut, and Zach Polson took care of me! He gave me the exact cut I was looking for, had me in and out, and I truly felt Lady-Gaga esque for my concert! My husband and I were going to his 20th class reunion (that day) and decided we both wanted our hair cut (that day). Naturally, I hit up my Yelp app for potential salons. I called Zona shortly after 12 noon on a wing and a prayer, and found out they had openings for both of us in a little over an hour. AMAZING! We parked, checked in at the front desk, and were taken back to our prospective stylists. Jamie claims he had to wait about 15 minutes after his scheduled appointment to be taken back. My stylist, Zach, started by talking to me about what style I wanted, if I had any pictures, etc. I showed him a few and we discussed at length what my cut should be. I was very happy with the level of communication and professionalism he showed to me, checking in from time to time to re-discuss. I originally had wanted to go for a super-edgy short cut, but after much talk, Zach convinced me that I could always return to go shorter, if I "lived in" my new style for awhile and wanted to chop off more. I then asked him if it would be possible to style my hair in such a way that I could go directly to our event that evening. Unfortunately, the way he ended up blowing-out my new, semi-edgy cut, ended up being a little too "soccer mom" for my taste. My husband, however, thought I looked amazing. So, there's that. Jamie's hair stylist was really nice-- per him-- but unfortunately, went a little shorter than he (and I) were expecting. Apparently, they don't do many "drastic" or "dramatic" restylings at Zona, at least per that particular stylist's claims. However, neither one of us was majorly unhappy with the outcome. Combined, our haircuts were a little over $60 (before tip). What Zona excels at? getting in a last minute cut, efficient use of time, clean/modern salon, standard to semi-edgy haircuts for men and women, customer service, ease of making appointments, affordable. What Zona *perhaps* could improve on? edgy cuts and styling, is also very busy (very little flexibility if you need more cut off, want to change direction, etc.). Only mildly disappointed, I wish that my new haircut better reflected the inspiration photos I brought with me; I was swayed by the "play-it-safe" mentality, for better or worse. I likely will return to Zona, as it's an affordable choice for haircuts, and I did love Zach as a stylist; I'll better assert myself when describing the cut and styling I'd like. read more

Been a regular for almost a year and truly love this salon! Im extremely picky when it comes to a hairdresser and before I found Lisa at Zona i got 3 haircuts in one month because I just couldn't find anyone who could do it well enough. Lisa is a very down to earth and energetic stylist and is always a pleasure to chat with. We always have great conversations, and if I am ever stuck on a style she's pretty good at guiding me to new one or just create a new one for me! I wouldn't recommend any other place to go, the salon is ver clean as well as inviting. The staff is very helpful and friendly all around, and the products are superb and are all plant based. I've been to Zona twice, each trip about 5 years apart. I'm a chronic stylist-hopper and have rarely found anyone I'm willing to go back to. When I lived in Boston things were easy - not so much here on the South Shore. Both trips were for a simple haircut/blowdry, and yet they managed to screw it up both times. On my first trip I stopped in (without an appt) on a snowy Sunday evening. Mind you, this was back in 2003, and I realize things have most likely changed since then (however my second visit was in 2010 - see below). They seemed to be the only salon in the area that was open, and I was desperate to get a cut before I went back to school. The girl who cut my hair must have graduated from beauty school that day, and she still needed some help. The cut was uneventful but when it came time to dry my hair (long, and curly when scrunched, but wonderfully straight when blown out) she put some weird and tacky gel in, and unsuccessfully used a giant diffuser to make my hair the frizziest it has EVER looked in my life. HOW DO HAVE A JOB IN A SALON AS "UPSCALE" AS ZONA AND YOU NOT KNOW HOW TO PROPERLY DIFFUSE/DRY SOMEONE'S HAIR? Unreal. I am not a picky/particular person but I have never left a salon looking as bad as I did that night. I decided to give Zona another try this spring (2010). I moved back to the South Shore and since the salon was still around I figured I'd give them another shot - hey, they have a chic looking website, am I right? Wrong. Another disappointment. The blow-out was great, I looked fabulous leaving the salon. But after a day or two I realized that they hadn't really cut my hair much at all. It was still really long in places, and I still had many split ends. I tried, I really wanted to like this place. I had even requested a stylist my friend recommended but still failed to get that *BAM* haircut I've been looking for. Front desk staff was very nice. Glad I only purchased the sample bottles of the Aveda shampoo/conditioner, because they were terrible! Couldn't run my hands through my hair or anything. When I first moved to the Boston area, finding a hair salon was one of my top priorities (forget about switching my driver's license over to MA, that came waaaay later!). A friend of mine recommended I give Zona a try and considering I drove by it enough, I figured why not. I wasn't sure if I was trendy enough to match the building's decor with my simple hair style, but it was worth a shot. First off, it is ridiculously simple to book an appointment here. Blame the economy or whatever you want, but it's easy enough to call and have a hair appointment within 24-48 hours. Most importantly, I've never had a bad haircut here. My stylist, Kristen, is simply awesome. Even though I don't get fancy cuts or styles, she is always recommending something new to try (one day I will, I promise!) and even though I politely decline, she does a great job layering and thinning my hair as best she can. When I do decide to try something new, she will be the first person I call! Some people are hesitant to trust their hair to a junior stylist, but in all the times I've been to Zona, it seems like there were more people having their hair styled by the junior stylists than the regular ones (or maybe we were all scheduled at the same time... but whatever!) The staff here is accommodating and friendly and the facility is always clean. Parking is a little confusing -- can you park in the aisle in front of the facility, near Hannaford's, or in the back past TCBY? The building looks small from the exterior, but you have to take in to account that the styling action takes place upstairs. My only complaint is that on more than several occasions (most, actually), my appointment begins anywhere from 5-15 minutes late than what is scheduled for. Although I shouldn't complain considering how accommodating they are to make appointments within 24-48 hours, having more time between appointments or booking them longer would help with the overflow. And if you are still curious to know, they use Aveda products!! read more

Since Zona is so close to my work, I decided to give it another shot for an eyebrow wax and a haircut. I called at the last minute and asked if they could fit me in for a cut and style and they had someone available. It was really nice considering it was a Tuesday night and I didn't call until around 6pm (they close at 8). Lisa did my brows and did a fantastic job! My brows were a mess and she did a great job giving them a nice shape and cleaning them up. Also, the brow wax was only $10? Fantastic! My haircut= amazing. Unfortunately I forgot the girls name, but she was AWESOME. Very nice and gave me a lot of great suggestions on what we could do with my thick, unruly hair. I got about four inches cut off and she angled it too. Total price for hair cut, style, and eyebrow wax? $62. Very reasonable. Zona uses Aveda products (which I love) and they are right up the street from my company. I will definitely be going back within the next month or so. Yay Zona! I am a fan! read more

Decided on a whim I wanted to get my hair cut. I called at 1:15 and they could get me in at 1:45. I had trouble finding it. They are on the right side of the Hannaford building, you can parallel park right in front of the salon if there is a spot or there is a lot in the back or the front. I checked in and was told to have a seat and wait for my stylist. It is huge in there, two floors, high ceilings. My stylist Kate came down promptly at 1:45. She led me to her chair and I explained what I wanted. She then took me over for a shampoo. Which also included a scalp massage, which was nice. Kate is a newer stylist but did a great job. She took her time, which I understood and appreciated, but if you do see her, please be aware. It took about an hour and a half for my wash/cut/dry process. After my hair was done she led me back to wax my eye brows. I wasnt a fan of the wax they used, I dont think it took the hair out as smoothly as other waxes.She seemed to have to tweeze a lot more than I normally get done. Tara did a wonderful job. She really listened carefully and paid close attention while working on my hair. She's very professional, not a loud mouth, which I appreciated. Went for my first time, purchased a Groupon. I was greeted by the front desk staff and was taken back immediately. Had my hair cut by Allison...she was pleasant and seemed to know her stuff. I like that she went over (and over) my ends after the cut to make sure things were even. I came in for a long, straight bob...left with a shortish bob. Thought I would be leaving with a little more hair on my head...hence the one star deduction. The salon is spacious, beautiful, and clean. They only carry Aveda products, but it was nice that they didn't try to sell their products...I hate when salons push their products on you. Checkout was easy and tipping is done in small envelopes, which is nice so you can avoid the awkward tipping directly to the person. read more

I would like to stress that I am not rating Zona ( to start) I am rating the lovely woman, Tess who gave me one of the best hair colors and cuts I have ever had! I am a spa/salon director on Nantucket and I have many hair stylists working for me and who have done my hair. I wanted a change and my sister recommended Tess the stylist she sees. I have been in this industry for years and honestly , Tess was top 5 ! She listened to me, looked at my pictures and specifics. She was personable and a delight to spend nearly 2.5 hours with. She gave me one of the most wonderful head massages of my life! And the finished product was perfection! Honestly, this woman is amazing... I would hire her as a stylist in my salon! Now, for my review of Zona... If you are going to sell product make sure that your front desk/salon coordinators have product knowledge. I could tell that the product had been sitting on the shelf for a year possibly multiple, judging by the wear and tear on the packaging and the rancid scent of the product. The woman who was running the front desk who told me she did all the ordering had no answers for me about the product I was interested in purchasing. Nor was the product available, yet the tester was displayed. Your upstairs need new lighting for the hair chairs. The lighting was inadequate in the hair station I was in. In the upstairs "hair loft" it felt more like a warehouse of hair chairs, not a salon. Tess, did an amazing job on my hair and it wasn't until I got into some great lighting that I realized how incredible of a job she did. Your customers should have a display of the stylists fantastic work before leaving the chair. Lighting is not expensive and can go along way for the stylist and the customers. Bottom line Tess, hair stylist at the norwell location is awesome... She is too good to be working at Zona! My five stars go to her directly not Zona! read more

So let me start this off by saying that I DID NOT WANT to leave a nasty or hurtful review for a salon I actually liked, I even tried to resolve the issue without doing this, but I almost feel like it is necessary now... A few months back I decided to pay a visit to Zona. This was my 4th time at the salon, and 4th time getting my hair dyed/cut by the same person since I started visiting Zona last year. Going into the appointment I would say my hair was around a medium brown color, and I was hoping to leave with an ashy blonde balayage or something close that would make this possible after my next visit .. Just to set the picture my stylist knew exactly what my hair looked like before going into my appointment, and we discussed what was possible prior to me even making an appointment. Upon seeing my hair in person my stylist told me exactly what the plan was, and we began. Throughout the appointment I was pretty persistent with my questions about what I could expect and what I would be happy with if my hair did not lift as fast as we imagined it would. After 3 hours of putting foils in my hair (yes 3 hours, and yes my bottom foils sat in for 3 hours while my top foils were only left in for max 30 minutes) we began washing the foils out. Let me rewind for a second. I already knew I was in for a bad surprise when my stylist told me that "everyone in the salon knew I was the project of the day" and that they "couldn't believe the hair stylist told me they could deliver what I asked for"..... Definitely not what your stylist should be telling you while dying your hair. As I was sitting there getting my foils washed out the stylist began telling me that there were some really warm spots, but the gloss and toner should take care of that, but "thank god I want a few inches cut off because the ends are fried"... Confidence soaring at this point. After god knows how long it was time to cut my hair. Sitting down in the chair with wet hair I already knew I wasn't going to leave happy. I began brushing my hair (this I asked to do myself to save time), and noticed two stripes on the center of my head.... which I pointed out right away. After the cut and blow dry my stylist said right to my face "I don't even want to take a picture"... and you can imagine how I'm feeling at this point. At this point in my appointment the salon was closed, I had spent over 5 hours there, spent $100 more than I was told I would have to spend and I just had to get out of there. Next day I notice all of these patches of random color on the top of my head, yellow and orange spots which I specifically said I did not want and would be happier with anything else , which now lead to my second appointment 3 days later to fix the mess. (I should attach the pictures so you understand that when I say patches I literally mean my head looked like you just did a patch job on a pair of jeans and used any color fabric you had lying around). Which lead to one problem being solved just to have another one emerge. Go in to the salon again to comb in some root gloss or color to blend all the patches and what do I have now? Per my stylist "product build up from adding the root color...because I need to understand that these things are hard"...... Horizontal lines all across my hair, which I mean must be the new thing since NO ONE in the salon thought was a terribly awful thing to walk around with. I only say this because after sending an email to the OWNER of the salon (just as an example for his stylists in training) all I really got was a bunch more promises that never actually lead to anything except more disappointment. The owner of Zona promised to rectify to issue, and "set me up" with another very talented stylist in the salon, allowing my previous stylist to sit in and watch. Our initial conversation was on June 1st, then a second one on 7th, a third on June 21st, and a final one on June 23rd which was simply a text from me to him with NO response. It is not that I want a free appointment out of this, or that I want them to cater to my every need. It is that I spent $250 to have my hair done at a very nice, very professional hair salon, and I could've had better work done for $50 at some rink a dink hair salon. I also wouldn't be sitting here THREE MONTHS later with the bottom layer of my hair completely dead and broken (6 inch pieces of hair under my very long hair) because if you can recall from earlier those bleached foils sat in for THREE HOURS. Now I am embarrassed to go to any other salon, and even more afraid that I will have to cut all of my hair just to match the length I'm left with.... I do not want to ruin any reputations, but I will NEVER go back to this salon, not even if they paid for my hair to be done for the rest of my damn life. Be warned, and be careful. Ask for exactly what you want, and question everything your stylist does. Not even the best salons can get it right every day though, cause "these things are hard". read more

I have to warn others with long hair about this place. I had my haircut by Tori and she was very "scissor happy" despite my requesting only a 1 inch trim. I came in with hair that reached about 4 inches past my shoulders and left with a choppy "Rachel" haircut that barely hit my shoulders. When my Salon went out of buisness i went to so many to find the one for me. I have issues with my Scalp and I can itch and itch! Luckaly I found Zona! I trust any one there with my hair but I like to have Lauren. They told me about an oil treatment to the scalp I can have and it has saved me the embaressment of constantly itching! Its so soothing and feels great! I also got the high powere shampoo and coniditoner they sell for home to help cope with my itchy scalp. I hardly scratch as much any more and its thanks to the wonderful staff at Zona who helped me find a cure to my problem. These folks know what they are doing. If your styalist doesnt know you, they will carefuly examine your hair and style before they start to see what you need. Since I always have the same person she knowes exactly what to do. Have a long wait? They offer some great teas, water and coffee. Im not a cafine drinker so I read a book myself. The only thing they dont do is Nails but im a guy, i usualy dont need that much attention to my nails! I highly recomend Zona. read more

I've discovered that the shirt I wore while getting my hair done has a big bleach spot in the back and on the collar. When I called, I was treated like it was my problem. I'm contacting the owner once I hear back from my attorney on Monday. read more
