I've been working with Brandy on a hair project for the past few months and she's been nothing but informative, energizing, and friendly, in the best way. She's the kind of person you wish you could invite over for face masks and wine and talk smack about people with. She cares more about your hair's health and integrity than immediate results--truly a stand-out gem and an amazing stylist. She's a realist, which I appreciate, and starts great conversation while she's working on your hair, which I also really appreciate. But more on Zona: the prices might be steep, but THEY ARE WORTH IT. I always leave feeling so fancy and fresh and sexy. Their quality of service and hair care is unparalleled in this area. And their playlist isn't so bad, either . I can't speak for their other services, but I've only had positive experiences when it comes to haircuts and dyes/bleaching. Another bad experience at Zona... hair dresser was very rude, insulted my hair saying I shouldn't be having long hair with how dry it is and the breakage, I told her I just had a baby so that's why it is and why I haven't gotten to come lately, she said "doesn't matter that's not an excuse". She also was so rough on me pulling my hair so hard that my head is hurting so bad. When she saw me in pain at one point she said it was my fault for not paying attention more when she dries it. read more

I just moved here from down south and finding a barber in the area has been challenging. I thought that this would be a good place to go to, but I was very wrong. I asked for a modern mullet, which really isn't that hard when you show a picture to the barber. The barber here cut way too high and didn't blend/fade my hair at all. Would like to update this to add that when I was contacted I was again spoken to in an increasingly unprofessional manner. At the time of service there's no option to go into the salon to see the "posted updates" so to even address that as a valid way to show a change in a vital policy is pretty ridiculous. I had to Miss my appointment that I never had confirmed because I was caring for my father to help him avoid going to the hospital. Your team failed to show empathy and understanding for someone whose gone to your salons for 5 years and instead tried charged me $180 for services that were not rendered. Cancelled my appointment because I didn't call back immediately to review policies, although I had gone through that process before and spoke with someone about the policies in the past. They didn't give me a deadline to call back before cancelling and didn't let me know they would be cancelling. Was busy with my work and kids, but could have prioritized if I knew they would cancel without warning. This was more than 24 hours before the appointment. Tried to rebook online and immediately got rejection email. Unprofessional and rude, do not recommend. read more

Location is a great street in New England, amongst other great little shops, eateries which makes the jaunt there even more perfect. The place is open 7 days a week, unheard of, especially for a high end shop. The price can get expensive especially if you go beyond the typical cut and blow dry. I always get compliments after their haircuts. They give a great head massage during the shampoo. Their products are excellent. They will offer you tea or water upon just entering the shop. Left out the fifth star only because the acoustics is really bad due to the high industrial ceilings. read more

It's a nice salon in the neighborhood. Good customer service that the receptionist greeted me with coffee or tea at every visit. The salon was small but very clean and cozy. My hair stylist was Colleen whom gave me nice and fun haircuts every time. She was professional that she listened to my need and worked with my idea, then came up some fun styles which were different each time. She would also make sure I was comfortable during the cut and shampoo. I recently got a highlight service with purple-ish crimson color. Colleen was patient enough to spend extra time making sure the color came out as expected and it did come out great! I was very happy for every visit. I was tired of my old stylist so I decided to switch things up and made an appointment for a cut at Zona with Shannon. I am very pleased. She took the time to listen to my concerns and desires and suggested a cut that she thought would work for both mu curly hair, and if I decided to blow it out straight. I love the cut and all the other people there were very friendly. One star off of decor: kind of minimalist/industrial looking inside, but all in all a wonderful experience. read more

If I could give this salon negative stars I would. Never in my life have I had what one would consider a terrible experience at a salon, but this definitely qualifies. I scheduled a mid afternoon appointment on a Saturday about a week and a half in advance. I recently moved from Boston and desperately needed a haircut, so I didn't have a preference who it was with. They scheduled me with Kat for 12:15. The night before the appointment I got a voicemail from the salon asking if I could come in at 12 instead of 12:15. I never confirmed this with the salon. On my way to my 12:15 appointment I got a phone call from the salon asking where I was because my appointment was scheduled for 12 and I was late. I explained to the receptionist that my appointment was actually at 12:15 and that I never agreed to change the time. She apologized on behalf of the salon for taking the liberty of changing my appointment time without my consent but informed me that Kat had a client immediately after me and wouldn't have time to blow dry my hair herself. I should've rescheduled then and there because now I'm left with a horrible haircut, a painful experience, and a wasted afternoon. Not to mention I will now need to spend additional time and money fixing the damage caused by Zona Salon. An intern greeted me upon my arrival and brought me back to wash my hair. She then brought me to Kat's station where I was greeted by a surly, unwelcoming Kat who asked me what I wanted to do with my hair. Now, I have very easy hair to work with and what I asked for and showed her pictures of was simple and straightforward. No color, no crazy different styling, just a clean fresh cut. What I left with was an all one length cut straight across at my shoulders. When I asked if some face framing layers would work nicely the curt response I got was, "if that's what you want." Yes, I would please like some face framing layers to break up the one length mushroom cut I was left with. But what she gave me were not layers and they certainly weren't face framing. She then brought in the intern to help her dry my hair faster, so the two of them went to town without doing anything to give me a nice blowout that would last at least a few hours. I walked out of there with hair flatter than a pancake looking absolutely horrendous. No product, no styling, and certainly no customer service. read more

Had such a great experience today with Shannon! I had a Groupon for cut and botanical treatment and it was just perfect! Front desk was super nice and Shannon was a pleasure to spend my hour with! She did exactly what I wanted! I never leave hair appts feeling that impressed because my hair is kinda bland, fine and then. but she styled it so well .. I called same day and was able to get an appointment with Courtney. The entire experience was truly phenomenal. I explained to her my desire to eventually reach an almost platinum blonde, so she literally covered my head in foils. There's many hairdressers that will nod their head, explain how it's a gradual process (which I'm aware of, I've been there before) and continue to give you a mediocre amount of foils. Courtney took her time and was the sweetest thing. As far as the cut, my hair was a straight chop when I came in and I trusted Courtney with adding some depth with angles and layers.. I let her do whatever she wanted to do and boy it did not disappoint. The cost of it all was just as sweet as the service and satisfaction. And it was my birthday. So-so. My hair looks decent but nothing special. Why is it that stylists on the South Shore seem to be about 20 years behind the trends? I figured this Aveda salon would be different, but not so much. To make matters worse, they're lacking some of the "extra" features that many of the Aveda salons include...aromatherapy, shoulder rub, a good scalp massage with your shampoo. The salon itself is meh...no real sense of decor or an interesting, inspiring environment. My stylist was nice, but she didn't listen very well...she forgot several points we discussed during the consultation while she was coloring/cutting my hair make me feel less than comfortable. I've never felt so desperate for a good salon with grounded stylists who know what they're doing! read more

Worst haircut I've ever received, and I've gotten a lot of bad haircuts (all from Zona in Hingham). Will NOT be going back. Not only did my hairdresser, Tayla (I think), not do what I asked for, but she actually did the exact opposite. I even confirmed with the hairdresser what I wanted when she started cutting, so there is no excuse. Also, customer service has been less than adequate every time. I just got back from getting a cut and foil with Colleen. I've been going to Zona for almost 3 years with few complaints but today's cut was by far my favorite! Colleen and the rest of the staff is warm and friendly. The location is great and while there is no off street parking, I've never had a problem finding a spot on the street within a block of the salon. They are open on both Saturdays AND Sundays which is almost unheard of for a nice salon. They have a ton of Aveda products and everyone there knows a lot about each one of them. read more

Got a blow out last Saturday. Relaxing wash and AMAZING blow dry. That lasted 3 days and I got many compliments. She made beachy waves without too much volume. Price was very reasonable $25, I believe. I will definitely be going back. Well worth it. The girl was super friendly too. read more

My hair stylist completely missed the haircut we agreed on. This was the worst hair salon experience in my life and stylist had the easiest task. I said: my hair should be little over the shoulders and she cut it so it barely touches the shoulders. It is at least 3 inches shorter than what it was suppose to be. The stuff she put in my hair made it awfully frizzy and the way she blow-dried it was not what I told her I want. I just couldn't wait to run out of that place. read more

I went to Zona after purchasing a Groupon. I was a little worried, because I normally would never do a coupon for a hair cut and color.. but I thought maybe it won't be so bad. I called the salon and they were very pleasant and helpful. I got in the same day I called due to a cancelation, which was perfect for my day off. Sarah was my hair stylist and I loved her. She was so sweet and very tentative to my needs throughout the whole process. I told her what I was looking to do and I let her do the rest with picking out the colors. I have been going to Zona for about nine months now and I really like it. I see Kendra, who is always very nice, comfortable, and capable. All of the girls who work here have great hair and I like the old warehouse-y environment. It's very simple and people, both stylists and customers seem to enjoy being there. I have always been happy with my hair cuts and color, and the selection of Aveda hair products is great. I only took a star off because on two separate occasions the receptionist booked me for just a cut when I needed a cut AND color, which I think is a no-no when you are going for something that is time sensitive. I have been to Nicole about 3 or 4 times and I am extremely happy with the service and experience. Nicole has been awesome, always listens to want I want and amazingly anticipates what I want. I will back to her for sure. She has been trimming, and lastly highlighted my hair for my wedding and I seriously couldn't be happier!!!! The salon is nice nothing too fancy... I went to Zona the other day and it was the best hair experience of my life. My stylist Dee is phenomenal. She has an instinct for hair and when I wasn't sure what I wanted she gave me a light balayage that was exactly what I wanted. Dee definitely sets the standards high, knowing so much about blending and hair color. I would trust her blindly with my hair. My usual hairstylist (at another salon) broke her arm and I held off on getting my haircut out of loyalty. I was about 6-8 months overdue on a cut & my hair looked it. I found a groupon for a $28 cut & hair therapy session at Zona's South Street Salon & decided to give them a try. I was pleasantly surprised - and thrilled! My hair texture was dry, lifeless & coarse, a bit overprocessed from coloring. Lindsay restored the softness and shine to my hair with an array of Aveda products that worked as wonderfully as they smelled! She took about 4-6" off my hair and left me with a flouncy layered shoulder-length bob that made my hair look much fuller (it's very thin) and flattered my face. I am so happy I went there - it was just the perfect winter pick-me up I needed. I'm definitely going to return there in the future as well. Thrilled! Thanks Lindsay! read more

Unfortunately, I bought a Groupon Full Foil & etc that came with it... the most expensive one they had on Groupon. The stylist which was given to me, was a "junior" stylist, because those are the stylists that are given to Groupon Customers. My mistake, 1st time and last time on Groupon. From blond highlights, I ended up with an orange head. So my roots - from brown, turned orange. Although the stylist is extremely polite and very kind - does not justify why management allowed a rookie to foil my hair. Although I am very understanding and open to allowing training and learning - please supervise and manage the learning process better. Would never return to this salon. An apology does not fix me walking around with an orange head for a few days - until I go somewhere else to fix it. read more

From the second I walked into the salon I was greeted by a friendly receptionist who had me fill out paperwork, being a first time client, and offered me a choice of beverage. Everything was clean and neat. My hair stylist Sarah, came out and introduced herself and then I went back and discussed what I would like to have done. It was a simple dye and I had purchased the groupon that was running for their salons. Everything was going great and I was very impressed with the attentive-ness of Sarah and then of the shampoo girl Nicole. She was super sweet and made sure the water wasn't too hot and that I was confortable waiting in the shampoo chair for my gloss to set. She offered me a hand massage and began to work on one hand. THEN another hair stylist, Hannah came over and RUDELY interrupted- not asking but telling Nicole that her client needed to be shampooed out. Nicole was quiet and said ok and asked her if she could do that in a minute, considering she had just started on my first hand. Hannah's response was a dirty look to Nicole and the snooty response of "fine but no longer than a minute". She then proceeded to walk to the reception desk and sit down peeking through the door opening every 2 seconds to see if Nicole had stopped working with me and moved to her client- UNCOMFORTABLE for me. Not only was this girl doing her job and helping a customer in the salon but she was so sweet. After Nicole finished with me, she went over to wash out this awful woman's client. The second this shampoo was done the woman shot straight up because she didn't want to lay back. Hannah immediately came running over and belittled Nicole for not putting a towel over her shoulders before the client sat up. The client defended Nicole, thankfully. CONCLUSION TO MY STORY. I had a great experience until this hairstylist ruined my time. If you get Hannah make sure you tell her everyone has been that shampoo girl and the "lower person on the totem pole". I plan on calling this salon and also explaining how uncomfortable my visit ended up. read more

I hate to do this...but I have given Zona multiple opportunities to make a returning client out of me but have failed time and time again. Most recently I went to see Sarah (who no longer works there) and I actually had to ask her to stop cutting. I wanted soft layers and she almost made a mullet out of my one length super long hair. She also did highlights because she couldn't figure out how to do one color process!?!? Needless to say my hair was fried! I went back a few weeks later since the "highlights" washed out so quickly and the cut was terrible and I sat with Cora. I asked for shaggy layers this time and a one color process. She nailed the color but could not do the layers. She claimed it was a razor cut style and she wasn't trained in razor work. She again butchered my hair. Cut terrible bangs, only layered the right side of my hair and no layers in back. I actually showed her a pic of what I didn't want and she gave me that exact haircut. We go to these top salons for hairstylist to make our visions come to life or at least close to it and you walk out like you cut it yourself. Cora did do fabulous color but good god don't cut hair. Needless to say I have an appointment this weekend to fix the damage ugh! read more

I went here for a trim. I explained I wanted a trim to grow my hair out further so I can donate my hair. I said I wanted a trim, meaning 1.5-2 inches. Well, I was disappointed to see that double of that was taken off. At least 3.5 inches "trimmed" from my hair. Fast forward to the next day, I look in the mirror and my hair was incredibly uneven. So I call the salon, and they could only get me in at 5:30. Okay.. Sure. So I go to get my hair fixed. Not once did the salon take accountability for the uneven hair cut. No apology. Just some lame excuse about how my "hair is really thick" I wouldn't have been as upset if my hair was at least even. But the stylist did not listen to my wishes, and cut my hair unevenly. I am pretty easy going, and I got a straight cut.. Nothing crazy or intricate. My hair still is not okay, all different lengths. But I'm not willing to step foot in that salon again and cut my hair even more. It's concerning that they would not be willing to accommodate this mistake or fit me in soon, nor apologize for this mistake. Awful experience.. Kat in the Hingham location is great. She does a great job with my color and cut and I have been following her since her training in the Norwell location. I give her FIVE stars. I give Zona appointment scheduling process three stars = 4 overall. I have had challenges making appointments and with the time confirmations. It's hard to leave voicemails, get calls back, text and emails etc. I'm a busy working mother and wish the process were easier and more streamlined. But, I'll be back. I came here because I bought a cut and full highlight groupon. My stylist was Sarah. She was very sweet. I showed her a picture of the color and the kind of highlighting I wanted. She did a perfect job with the coloring and I got exactly what I wanted. However my haircut was really disappointing. I asked for layers and I got very fine layers just on the sides, hardly noticeable. I kept telling her to make it more dramatic, and I don't know if she wasn't listening but she would cut just a tiny bit. She also wasn't very proactive on giving any kind of suggestions or asking questions. I have very fine hair, so I didn't know how to explain to her to make it more dramatic. I think it should have been her job to make that happen, as I'm sure if I had asked anyone in the salon at the end of the cut, no one would have said I got layers. In the end I gave up and came out unhappy. My husband told me to go back and ask for a cut again cos I looked the same except for the color and horrible looking bangs. I probably should have done that. I'm very easy to please as far as haircuts go, and this is the only disappointing experience I have ever had in life. I won't go back for sure read more
