Three employees were sitting down chatting away while I waited for my appt. I went because i wanted to cut my hair into a long bob but my consultation specialist looked at my hair and said my hair was fried. There was nothing he could do, I was so confused. I said, I'm not here to dye my hair. I'm here for a haircut. He said, I know. You need keratin and once your hair gets healthy I could try. Out of curiosity I asked, if I get my hair back to "healthy " again. I asked who he would recommend and he said nobody here. I was shocked and to be honest, I was so over the consultation that I awkwardly laughed and promised him I'd be back. He could honestly care less. At no point was I trying to take advantage of anyone, and at no point did I ask to for a discount. No one deserves to have their personal circumstances used against them. What should have been a professional conversation quickly became something that felt judgmental, accusatory, and unnecessarily personal. The most disappointing part wasn't losing her as a stylist tbh. It was being made to feel like I was a problem for circumstances that were already difficult for me. Instead of professionalism, I was met with comments that felt targeted and designed to make me feel small. Businesses are entitled to their policies. What they are not entitled to do is shame customers, make assumptions about them, or turn a business matter into a personal one. I reached out because I wanted to feel beautiful. I left the interaction feeling humiliated. Here is my attempt to cancel and the policy. ****update- I spoke with owners and management and their quickness to resolve my problem and prevent this from occurring again to anyone was so relieving and refreshing. After a 48 hour wait. I was informed that they would be speaking with the stylist, and overall taking my concerns seriously. No point did I feel like the stylist was a true representation of society West and their core values especially after speaking with management. They did amazing and my experience was a rare one im seeing now. The haircut offerings say a shampoo and cut. I don't need a shampoo, so would appreciate a more affordable cut. So, I don't want to shame anyone, so I will simply say the lady that seems in charge did several things that just didn't seem right. First, I had a free haircut card that is stamped with every haircut. There was another stylist's name on it, so she rolled them over to another card with her name on it. Okay, fine. The next time I scheduled, I requested her. Upon arrival, I found that she was getting her hair cut by another stylist during my scheduled time. How rude! I was then assigned a brand new stylist who at least could have used some direction from my scheduled stylist that was getting her hair cut. I was not happy with being stood up for a scheduled appointment. Last, your POS machines default to a minimum of a 30% tip. That is kind of surprising if your not expecting it. In the end, it's a $40.00 visit for a simple men's haircut. I tried Fantastic Sam's because they were convenient, but there are some things that are more important. You will not see me again.

I knew I needed some professional hair help...then I found Melissa on Instagram. I didn't have any inspiration pics since I didn't even know what could be done with my hair at that point. I explained that I wanted more volume and to try to hide my thinning hair as much as possible. She was empathetic and a good listener. She asked me questions about what type of products I used and how much time I wanted to spend on it each day, to ensure that she gave me a cut that was suited to my life. I love how it turned out! It looks so much fuller and healthier and I feel way less self conscious while I get my health in order. I have now been back a couple of times and each time I walk out of the salon feeling great!
