Just finished a great meal at Frog Island. It's not much for ambience BUT food was soooo good. It does have a fresh seafood market located within the same building where you can take it home BUT do yourself a favor and at least try ordering it to eat in. We will be back soon because it was a great meal. We had flounder, shrimp, potatoes salad and corn nuggets. ALL were spot on and lastly almost forgot the HUSH PUPPIES were outstanding. read more

This place is a MUST. We arrived into Norfolk and were on a drive up to Nag's Head when we randomly decided to stop to get some local seafood eats at this hole in the wall. One of the "specials" that day for lunch was the soft shell crab plate. Lightly battered, fried, served whole and just mouth-watering delicious! It's truly farm-(or I should say)-sea-to-table fresh seafood. The market area had no inkling of "fishiness" at all. Truly just smelled like the sea. The bf and I could not stop talking about the crab during our entire trip - even prompted a soft-shell-crab-crawl in town! Highly recommended if you're in Currituck! Cousins are locals and when I visited this is where they took me. They recommended the calamari and the fish tacos...we ended up ordering the calamari as an app and the tacos for dinner. Loved the calamari. The fish tacos were tasty and plentiful (you get 3). You can tell how fresh everything is. It is a very casual place, you order at the counter and pick up your food at the window when they call out your order number. There is a market attached to also buy fresh fish or seafood. Excellent market on the way to or from OBX. We always stop to grab a bite to eat and pick up our seafood supplies for the week vacation. You can get dishes fried or broiled, either way it's always excellent. You can also get live or steamed crabs and oysters by the bushel and all kinds of fish. read more

Stopped by on a whim...just driving down to OBX. Was an O.K. experience, the food was good. We ordered gator bites, steamed shrimp, black bean salad, tropical fruit salad and hush puppies. I'm always disappointed when shrimp are not at least deveined....yuck! read more

This is a great little seafood market and eat in Resturant. We stopped here on our way home from OBX. Soft shell crabs were the special and they were delish! Two huge crabs, fries and hush puppies. My husband and I stopped here on the advice of friends. The atmosphere was lacking but that was not why we stopped. The market fish smelled to high heaven and looked dried out and rotten. The restaurant was not very clean. We put in our order with a nice girl who was helpful. The wait for our food was endless. There was a man who screamed out numbers as if he wanted to slaughter customers for existing. When someone did not sprint to the window he would scream again this time having leaving the kitchen to look the slow, distasteful, worthless client in the eye to personally scowl at them. The blonde, tattooed young girl was equally enraged to be there. She hissed one word answers to any communication and luckily looks can't kill or neither of us would have gotten out alive. Maybe tattooed across the neck make a person unhappy forever. The food was pretty good and seafood fresh, but the 75 cent up-charge for four crappy, cold and previously frozen onion rings was obscene. There was something disgusting resembling vomit it the parking area... Hmmmm. Run don't hop from Frog Island Seafood. The soup Nazi had better customer service. read more

I would post a pic of the snow crab dinner I got w sides, but it was gone too fast! The snow crab legs were really good, two clumps of legs, not too salty and fresh tasting. Cole slaw was the very finely grated kind not too sweet, my fav. And the fried okra was perfectly fried, the okra still green and not mushy. The boy got soft shell crab even tho he had a bad experience before, but the lady at the counter said if he didn't like it she would refund him... He also got crab cake sandwich, not jumbo lump, modest size, good flavor well seasoned, fries were hot and crispy. With two bottled beverages that came to 35.00! What?! Excellent seafood that you can either order to take out or eat in. Order at the counter and wait for number to be called. Even though it's busy, wait time is usually short. Seafood is fresh and well prepared. Portions generous. Can be noisy when crowded and dining area doesn't have much in the way of ambience. If you don't want a meal, you can order steamed shrimp by the pound. All seafood extremely fresh and very good. Prices reasonable. read more

I called ahead to see what was on hand, and the lady who picked up seemed annoyed by my questions. I ended up heading to them to pick up some seafood, and when we arrived I asked a young lady (long curly dark hair) a few questions regarding the blue crab, fish, etc, and she seemed annoyed and bothered by the questions. I can assume she was probably the same person that answered the phone call when I called originally. Either way I didn't get many answers from her except for very vague and almost sarcastic responses. I did end up however buying some scallops, shrimp, and some pre-steamed blue crab because they didn't have any hardshell. I will say that the scallops were probably some of the best I've ever had in my life. I cooked them and they were incredible. The shrimp was pretty standard. The blue crab was good tho not fresh. I would go back for the scallops. To the owners and or management I would definitely consider some customer service training. The young lady that "helped me "like I said seemed annoyed by my questions and that's not the type of behavior or attitude you should have when you're in sales. read more

My wife, child and I went to Taco Tuesday tonight for the third time in a row. We are local and have been getting great shrimp and fish there for years. The fish and shrimp tacos are awesome and the only thing that you should be aware of is the horrible service that you will receive if "Connie" is at the register. She was spectacularly rude and did not hesitate to remark on the inconvenience of our order of plain fish tacos for our child. We have frequented Frog Island Seafood restaurant for years and never have dealt with rudeness at this level. Another employee, Brittany, was absolutely awesome. Just pray you don't have to deal with the other lady. Regardless of such negative customer service, the food is awesome. read more

My boyfriend I stopped by here on our way back from the OBX as to get out of the rush and to try something new! This seafood is the best seafood ever! We would gladly drive any extra miles just to hit this place! We had frog legs as an appetizer! Excellent! Smoked Gouda roasted red pepper soup, soft shells, crab cake, shrimp, oysters, scallops and delicious sides all for around $40 bucks!! We were sooo Pleased with this place! They had one co-worker there that was phenomenal! She was a younger maybe 18 or so Caucasian girl, who's presence was a pleasure to be in! She was so pleasant! Helpful! We always stop on the way back to the airport. They always have an awesome selection of fresh local and frozen sea foods. Our first visit last fall they had local oysters that were wonderful, we even got a basket of cooked oysters to enjoy. Shellfish galore, helpful staff, they'll even bag your fresh seafood with ice for the trip home. Just a terrific seafood market and an equally terrific sea food restaurant. read more
