There was plenty of parking on both sides of the restaurant but the restaurant itself is small. The people offered southern hospitality and were nice. Great down home seafood cooked to order - did not try the desserts, but oh my gosh, the biggest pieces of delicious looking cake you've ever seen. Next time I will at least plan to take one home! Worth leaving the beaten path for. read more

What a treat to have this place in the small town of Hertford. All the locals I've interacted with so far have recommended this and they are not wrong. Some things to highlight: 1. Great Value- You get a ton of food for a reasonable price. 2. Delicious, Fresh Seafood and quality sides- The shrimp that came with my entree were so flavorful and plump. You could tell it was really fresh. Plus, many places overlook the sides but I thoroughly enjoyed the collard greens and corn bread- some of the BEST corn bread I've ever had. 3. Friendly service- every was pleasant and friendly. Total southern hospitality and laid back atmosphere that I was expecting. So disappointed with our meal tonight and so embarrassed as we took out of town guests with us for a local seafood experience. There appeared to be only one waitress working and while she was friendly & got our drink order quickly the wait to place our order was quite long. Our party ordered a frog leg plate, shrimp and grits with a crab cake, the crab cake sandwich with fries and a shrimp trio plate. The crab cakes were mushy and a weird color & included several pieces of shell and they were barely even warm. The fries were stiff and cold & the hush puppies on both plates were cold. The shrimp and grits arrived several minutes after the other 3 mains were served but at least that dish was warm but with very stiff grits. The only dish enjoyed was the shrimp plate. We tried to mention the cold food while paying the bill but staff did not seem concerned. read more

Had excellent experiences until a few weeks ago. I found hair in my catfish. I brought it in, ad instead of receiving a refund, they offered me another piece of fish. Unfortunately, these things will happen (hopefully VERY occasionally) but to make things right, instead of offering more food (especially of the same kind) to someone who has lost their appetite due to an issue with it, offer to reimburse them the amount they paid for it. read more

Came in on Thursday afternoon for lunch. Restaurant was full. We were seated fairly quickly. Service was prompt, each of us had sweet teas. Food came out in 20 minutes or less and it was amazing. Hush puppies the size of golf balls and moist in the center. Cornbread soft and sweet with out the cornmeal grittiness. Fish plank was thick and melt in your mouth flaky and tender. Scallops were thick and cooked to perfection, not too soft nor too hard. The shrimp were large maybe jumbo and cooked firm without too much breading. Was recommended to us in Edenton because most places were closed due to Memorial Day. I love steamed spiced crabs but they only ha no. 2's which were small. She did tell me that and I asked for heavy Old Bay and they let me have it. They were overcooked, dry. My friend had the oyster poboy and said it was good. Served with a sauce that was tasty. Saw number of fried dishes that looked pretty good. I would not drive out of my way and it is way out there, to go back. read more

Came here after getting vaccinated down the road. Mostly older folks in there while we ate. I got the fried pickles which were pretty good! Have always enjoyed the food and the service at this restaurant multiple times. However, service tonight was not a pleasure. Ordered appetizer of hushpuppies only to have them delivered with the meal. When I requested removal from my ticket was told because they were placed on the table and I did not send them back I had to pay for them(couldn't send them back because the waitress never returned to our table. Requested refill of beverage and was bypassed to service another table and at that point I guess they ran out of swet tea because she offered no explanation. I finally got up and requested a to go box because I was not going to finish my meal without some to drink. Went there a few weeks ago. Food (Fish n Chips) was so salty I could barely stand to eat it. They were out of fries and onion rings. I got the mashed potatoes and it also was very salty. If you want to eat the world's best fried shrimp and french fries you need to go to Story's! They deserve ten stars the food is amazing!!! Their food is so good that my husband and I literally ate there twice in one day. We left and literally came right back to eat again the food is so fresh and so good! Absolutely love Story's food! Discovered them a few months back and we are now regular "take out" folks. The food we receive is consistent in both quantity and quality. We always call the food in ahead of time and it's ready when we arrive. The staff is friendly, organized and quick to get our food rung out. It is a bit out of our way, but SO worth it. This place is worth the drive. Small and out of the way, but wow. Our waitress, while young, knew about the menu and the items served very well. We started off with some Crab Bombs, 3 mild, 3 spicy. I liked the spicy, my wife liked the mild. Came with a dipping sauce that complimented it well. I ordered the Flounder & Oysters, my wife ordered the Trout. Came out in sufficient time, very hot & fresh. Nice ample portions, very well cooked and flavorful. Each plate comes with 2 sides and either hush puppies or corn bread. We tried both, very good, was told the cornbread was there Grandma recipe. Fries were cooked well, crispy outside but soft inside. I also got cabbage, yummy. The slaw I would not recommend, watery and no flavor, the only knock to the meal. We will be back when in town again. read more

Went here at the recommendation of a friend. Food was excellent and perfectly prepared. My wife had seared shrimp and scallops and I had fried catfish and shrimp. Also got the alligator bites as an appetizer and they were great. We both enjoyed our meals and made up for me not using gps and riding right by the restaurant. Perhaps we found them off their game: Story's was recommended so we scheduled a midday lunch visit. I ordered the BBQ plate with green beans and cabbage, and the wife ordered the oyster plate with baked beans. The BBQ was eastern NC style, little vinegary, chopped. It was tasty but barely warm when served. The green beans were tasty and well cooked. The cabbage was basically mush and very sweet. Not particularly good. All in, the BBQ was acceptable, but nothing to travel for. On the the oyster plate: these were the smallest oysters I've ever seen, grossly over cooked, dried out and in general just nasty. The wife, who loves oysters, could not eat them they were so bad. On both meals the hush puppies were tasty but a little over cooked. Bottom line for us - swing and a miss visit, and it's doubtful we will return. read more
