For instance, a half dried out large fern at Home Depot will run $14.99 but a gorgeous full fern that is miraculously all green will run you $29 here so as the old adage goes, you pay for what you get I suppose! My haul consisted of two gorgeous hanging baskets (for the moms), several begonias and trailing purple beauties for my front concrete planter, some basil for my herb planter, a large cherry tomato plant (already with 50+ tomatoes on it!) and a few mixed pots for landscaping. This was one of my favorite stores in the River Market until last week…read more I had some friends visiting from out of town and wanted to show them around a few of my favorite local shops. When we arrived at Dutch Flowers, a man was standing directly in the entrance watering plants. The hose was stretched across the walkway and water was spraying around the entrance. At first, we waited patiently, assuming he would pause for a moment so we could enter. Instead, he looked at us and continued watering. After waiting a bit longer, I politely asked if we could get by. His response was, "Well, I guess if you want," but he still didn't stop watering, move the hose, or step aside. One member of our group is pregnant, so navigating around a hose and standing water created an unnecessary tripping hazard. As we walked past, I made a frustrated comment under my breath. In response, the man came through the door yelling profanity, telling us to get out of the store, calling us offensive names, and attempting to escalate the situation in front of customers. The young woman working at the counter was very apologetic and handled the situation professionally. She mentioned that this was not the first incident of this nature and identified the individualh as Joe, a manager. I understand that everyone has bad days, but this level of hostility toward customers is unacceptable. I had always enjoyed supporting this business, but after this experience, I can no longer recommend it. I hope ownership takes customer service concerns like this seriously.

Prices I saw ranged from about $25 on the low end up to $200 for larger arrangements. I made myself a bouquet with geranium leaves, tea roses, and tuber rose, and it turned out really cute. That said, the service unfortunately took away from the experience. When we walked in, the young woman working did not greet us, ask if it was our first time, or engage at all while we shopped. After I selected my stems and waited at the register, she did swap out a broken rose for me, which I appreciated, but there was still no eye contact or conversation. What stung was watching her interact warmly with another customer and even ask about what brought her in, while I was never acknowledged. For a place that feels so special, I was hoping the customer service would match the atmosphere. I am knocking off 2 stars for that, because it left the visit feeling disappointing. I would love to come back and hopefully catch a more engaging experience with whoever is working that day.

Many years ago when I lived in KC, I used to visit an Indian restaurant on the corner. Since then they've renovated the whole strip of shops - incredible job! Verdant had great candles and an array of unexpected household and gift items. The inside is very curated and stylish. We randomly decided to buy a stuffed rhino for the children we've yet to have. I can't wait to visit at holiday time.
