I went in looking at house plants today because I needed a couple things. They had a good variety but the plants were NOT taken care of. If they didn't all look diseased, I probably would have gotten a couple. A man that worked there kept hanging around, staring at me. Then he followed me outside to the garden center too. I'm not sure why this Home Depot has such a low star rating. I guess for me, I think of things on a scale in terms of how they hold up to their other locations. As for this Home Depot? It honestly fits the bill for what you'd expect. They've got lumber, they've got paint, they've got some appliances, etc. I do think what they carry is pretty basic stuff though, like most of the time when I've been looking into doing any DIY home stuff I end up ordering wallpaper or tile from somewhere else online because they carry super generic items. It's firepit season, and I'd been meaning to get to around to going to Home Depot for one for about six weeks... six weeks because I've been putting it off because I loathe going to these kind of stores, if I'm being honest. However, this one was nice & easy, and worlds better than the one in midtown KCMO. Lowe's and Home Depot serve a purpose, but it's often a whole thing to go to them. They're so super-sized that it almost requires planning to know where to go, with a laser focus on what you need, and often the customer service is nowhere to be found. We lucked out here, as there were a good selection of firepits right when we walked in. I also needed a good fireplace lighter which would normally be like looking for a needle in a haystack, but lucked into finding one as well. We were also hoping for a lot of pine bark mulch but the selection was slim pickins', so we'll have to try Lowe's (another six weeks of procrastination?) for that. They only had one person at the register on a Saturday, but that's the way of things right now. Basically, if you own a home you're going to find yourself at these kind of spots. The Lowe's that's closer to us has an overall better selection for what we usually need, but this one was good for this time around. read more

Listen Home Depot of Overland Park... I used to live three blocks away and spent 10s of 1000s of dollars at your store remodeling my house when I lived nearby. I always had a 5-star review of your store... no questions asked. My last experience here on 6/7/2020 convinced me to delete my review and start all over! First, welcome to 2020 my friends of this store. If you don't own a vehicle with a radio, a smart device, an iPad, television or any other way to connect to the news, there is a small pandemic that is a bit problematic to our world currently. Let me help catch you up... there is also a mask mandate in place. Seeing MULTIPLE EMPLOYEES IN THE STORE WITHOUT MASKS, was gravely disappointing. I counted over 30 patrons enter the store, unmonitored, without masks. Truly, unacceptable. Be the example, not the exception. Second, waiting AN HOUR to get a single gallon of paint mixed is ridiculously unacceptable. Again, a single gallon of mixed paint... not a 5-gallon bucket, not anything wild... a simple can of grey paint. Sorry, I just simply do not have anything positive to say about this store after my last encounter. I am so glad to see your competition across the street now open. They have my guaranteed business forever after my last experience with you. I will never shadow your doors again. read more

I debated posting this review but after another negative interaction with the staff here, I think its time. If you are a female with little experience in diy or home maintenance, I do not suggest this store. I have gone here several times over the last few years, and I'd say only 25% of the time do I have a positive experience. Frequently I experience males talking down to me, or as if I am stupid, or trying to "upsale" me. I do not appreciate this, and come here for advice and help. I hate to say it but it is often with the older employees, 55+ years. This includes men working in door installation, lumber, carpet, and paint. All different times i have had this experience. I walk out with either too expensive or too much of a prodcut I did not need and feel taken advantage. The only times I've had a GOOD experience ironically has been with females. One was a very nice associate named Alice, who helped me in figuring out some ideas for my rain barrel, and last fall with a nice lady who worked in the counter tops section. Also, horrible issues with their delivery. Don't bother paying for a "time window". last year I ordered patio furniture, paid the extra for a specific delivery 2 hour window and for them to "bring into house or garage". They came early, and just left them on my front lawn. A value of over $500. Nobody signed. My 70+ father was left trying to move these heavy boxes by himself into my garage becsuse they wouldn't wait, even though they were early. So just, a very abhorrent experience. read more

Horrible experience. I purchased a dishwasher, including installation and haul away for my old dishwasher. Paid CASH. Installer shows up, and won't install it. Call the 800 number, was told to go back to the store and get a refund. No offer of what to do so I can get a dishwasher installed. Apparently the drain hose wasn't long enough. Go back to the store, the dishwasher is still on the delivery truck, and I have to wait until it's unloaded and scanned back into the warehouse before I can get my refund. Go the next day, and it took over 45 minutes to get a refund. I will NEVER EVER again purchase anything else from this company. read more

I'm happy to have this store in my area. It's not the nearest store to my home, but this location has a tool rental area (at the NW corner of the store) which offers a wide selection of tools, and has come in handy several times. I've rented large, seldom used tools like a tiller (to remove rocks from my front yard) and a concrete etcher (so I could apply epoxy to my garage floor). The tools were available at reasonable rates and worked as expected, while the service was always knowledgeable and helpful. Sweet! read more

I have literally spend hundreds of thousands of dollars at this store over the years-until today. The overly rigid interpretation of the rental agreement policies by one pretentious young lady in the rental department has cost me time and money on more than one occasion. The store manager I spoke with, Bill also contributed to the poor customer experience in his dealings with my situation that I have never had a problem with at any other Home Depot rental, including this one when dealing with any of the other associates but Bill chose to side with the overly conforming rental associate rather than a long-standing customer. I would not recommend this store especially the rental department to anyone there are much better alternatives out there. read more

As far as material and hardware goes - I think all Home Depots are pretty much the same. So it boils down to service. The few times I have been here the service has been top notch. I went to a Nuts and Bolts hardware store earlier in the day to buy material for a project. they didn't have what I was looking for and the associate brushed me off as if I was bothering him. I went to this home depot and showed the associate a picture of the project I was working on and he walked me around the warehouse helping me pick out the right lumber for the job. Finished shopping up the tile pieces needed to complete the kitchen backsplash so I headed towards the checkout. Only the self checkout was open. To me that is the most insulting thing you can do. I spend my hard earned dollars in your store and you can't provide a checkout lane. I want to support stores that support people. If you are wanting an appliance (I.e OVER THE RANGE) don't waste your time and go to Lowe's!! Went to Home Depot to pick out a new over the range and if you don't spend $396 or more they will charge you a $59 delivery fee not just to your home but for in store pick up also!! Oh, and most if not all of their appliances are not stocked and you have to order them. To me, that's ridiculous!! Talk about money gauging! If you are familiar with this location/area they just built a Lowe's across the intersection. I have always been a Home Depot fan. If I were writing this review a few years ago, it would have been a 2 star review, but this Home Depot is greatly improved. It used to be impossible to get store employees to provide assistance, but now, it seems like they bend over backwards to help out and they're generally friendly, too. The selection is pretty huge just like you would expect at Home Depot. They have a pretty decent garden section, but they store their bags of mulch and potting soil outside, so if it rains, they weigh at least 2x what they should. So that's a bit of a pet peeve, but since I don't buy these products every time I visit, it amounts to more of a minor annoyance than anything. The self checkout experience has gotten much better as well. It used to be that everything was SUPER picky and the scanners wouldn't function if you didn't obey their oddly programmed rules. This was made even more frustrating by a lack of attentive personnel to assist. But no more! Checking out through the self checkout is a breeze and there is always a friendly person there to help out. Having said that, I'm still on the fence regarding Home Depot vs. Lowes. I seem to come to this Home Depot more often than Lowe's, but I really don't think the differences are all that major, so I'm definitely not shunning Lowes and I do think there are times when Lowes beats out Home Depot, such as in their selection of decking materials. read more

This is my neighborhood Home Depot and my go to store for any kind of home improvement projects. Some days I run in to buy a $3.00 Christmas light timer. Other days I'll spend more money on varying projects to make me, my wife, and my home happier. This HD location is better staffed than most and has friendlier employees than other stores in the Metro. Employee friendliness and service is one of the main reasons I started going to Lowes while still living north of the river. Without a Lowes close to my house, I decided to give HD another shot when I moved to OPKS last year. I've really been impressed with their effort to go above and beyond. It's no different store--wise than any other Home Depot location, but this location is great step up over the others. read more

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. normally prefer home depot over lowes since I can find things easier. I converted some AMEX rewards to home depot gift cards to complete a project around the house. Have spent over 3k in the last few weeks on random things having just moved. Attempted to place an order and have it shipped to the house to avoid the store all together, somehow a portion of the small items were set to be picked up in store. Came in asked the lady how I get the order picked up. She claimed she was not trained to help and that I would need to stand in a pretty long line to ask someone else. I proceeded to shop in the store bought 600 worth of merchandise, self-checked out (the only part that was efficient) and then went over to the line to pick up the online order previously place the day before that I was emailed was ready. Stood there for 15 minutes, finally got to the front of the line. Young man goes to collect the items and cant find anything. Stood around another 20 minutes while he called and paged for help and no one came. finally I left my name and number and asked to be called when it was found. While standing there another customer dealing with the same issue was not helped. I waited 2 hours for a call, nothing. I called, was placed on hold for 30 minutes, no answer from a Manager. I tried to get a hold of someone on the website, goes to corporate waste of time there. Just a bunch of people that push you back to the store. Seriously impressed. Maybe I caught them on a great day but being the holiday season and all, I wasn't expecting such great service from every employee I came across. Compared to the other locations, the employees at this location were eager to help and seemed excited about my home projects. This trip started out with searching the lumber area for some wood boards to use as part of this years Christmas gifts. I was worried having never really dealt with this side of the store but they had a very nice man in the back that cuts the boards down come to help me pick out something that fit my needs. I needed about 8 cuts of this single board and received no grumbles or anything but positive, kind support and happy holiday wishes. I traveled further to find some picture hanging items and the very next employee I walked past offered to help walk me to them and even asked with a smile if it was for the wooden art boards. The final employee I dealt with was at the register and she had a pleasant demeanor about her. At other locations I have had to search, beg and plead for help that never comes. I have friend who prefer the local hardware stores. It's true, these local stores sometimes have an expert staff. However, Home Depot has a much larger selection and I often find really good quality merchandise at a lower price than the local stores. When I rented a rug cleaning machine, I found that Home Depot was much cheaper than local hardware and grocery stores. Recently I went looking for a bird feeder. First I checked a small store that specializes in bird houses and bird feeders. The clerk was an expert on "bird everything" but the prices were sky high. I took the information I'd learned and went to Home Depot where I found a comparable bird feeder for 25% less. read more

Spent most of my time in the outdoor area containing all of the plants, flowers, etc. There were numerous employees outside readily able to answer questions and help out. They are helpful, understanding and fair with returns (bought a tool we didn't need they took it back no problem). They are where we get our appliances, our plants, so many things we need are easy to find and available. Their paint mixers are very knowledgeable and helped us match an exterior paint. I have to admit, I do love Home Depot. They have some drawbacks - huge warehouse, so-so customer service, crummy sales. Pretty much the story at any big retailer. But boy do they pretty much have everything a person could need. Sometimes if I have spare time, I just browse to see what I might need - like a light switch controlled by my phone. (True story) What I really like about Home Depot is their returns policy - I have taken things back more than 60 days later ... I don't get to the big box stores all that often; I have taken back opened goods that when I tried it out I didn't like it (a night light that was actually too dim); I have taken things back without the receipt. When I brought it back to return it I was told you can't return "Major Appliances"...this was a *trim kit* not a major appliance - and one they sold me WITH the microwave!! All packaging was perfect. I just left this Home Depot, and unlike every other Home Depot store, I had to search for someone to help me. After finding two people that sent me in the wrong direction, I ran into a helpful, good samaritan who walked me directly to the item I was looking for. After retrieving what I thought was the difficult item, I went to get the easy one. I went to the wood isle, where a kind employee helped me load my 8x4 wood to a cart and pointed me in the right direction to get it cut. I ran into employees that saw me struggling to push the cart, and they didn't help (which I get, they may want to practice safe distancing), but to not even attempt to move out of the way was frustrating. He literally looked at me and then looked away. I ignored it and took the scenic route. I made it to the wood section, where I waited 15 minutes for someone to come. When no one came, I asked for someone to call someone. After just a terrible service experience, I left and went to Lowe's. I got in and out, and the service was excellent. read more

Terrible experience with the kitchen improvement center this week. I was going to buy some basic Formica counter tops for a kitchen I rehabbed. The counter tops were on sale for $27/ sq ft. Not bad... After all the nickel and diming and extra up-charges my 39 sq ft counter top was priced at $2,000! That's $51.28 per square foot... More expensive than granite!!! Home Depot is just awful. I normally shop at the HD in Olathe but today I was closer to this location. Facing Step One of a remodeling project, a friend suggested looking for cabinets at HD due to her satisfaction with a recent bathroom remodel. After looking around for a few minutes I was greeted by Mitch. He really knows his stuff about the products he is selling and how to use the design program on the computer. He made several suggestions on creating designs that provide the most efficient use of the available space and best products for the money. I left feeling like I do not need to shop anywhere else. I love this quality of customer service. Sadly it's a lost art form in our country. I hope his style influences his co-workers because I'll drive the extra distance for excellent customer service! read more
