First they put a layer of curds on the bottom of the bowl (no where else did this from chain places to supposed old school restaurants) then the fresh hot fries then more curds (A LOT) on that then the gravy. The cheese curds squeaked when you ate them. It's set up like a Subway sandwich place, cafeteria tray style so nothing special inside but who cares with poutine this good? They people inside mostly spoke French but also could switch to English and were friendly. They had lots of tables and booths inside and at least 8 tables with umbrellas outside. This is just off the main route heading back to US border for us going home to CT. Will absolutely be our last Canadian stop now before crossing the border. They also have a cheese and gourmet shop attached and they were selling fresh corn in a kiosk in the parking lot (which you can't take back across unfortunately because it looked great). And everyone purchased these cream filled smallish donuts so we probably missed a trick but we were so over full of sweets and pastries from our Montréal/Quebec vacation we just couldn't get any. If it's not made right there on the spot it's a disgrace wise words from my best friend. You can get Kingsley or guillaume back home but once it gets transported from fresh to cold and hot and cold and hot it just turns out MEH and loses its beautiful taste. There are a lot of different options but we stuck with the regular and absolutely loved it. The fries were great, the brown sauce amazing, and the chunks of cheese curds were huge with the perfect amount of "squeak" :) The dining area is enormous and the customers just kept flowing in with only a small wait as the employees kept everyone efficiently flowing through. We visited their birthplace today, and it was a pleasure. A surprisingly modest cheese shop besides the white walls of their factory received visitors. They offered a large selection of cheeses, some unavailable outside of the shop and others cheaper than what is found in grocery stores. They also had a sandwich menu that looked delicious! Apart from dairy stuff, they had local products, ranging from wild blueberry jams to game meat patés. We chose four cheeses: - Bouts de Doré-mi (semi-soft unripened) - Gouda fumé (smoked Gouda) - Capriny (soft goat cheese with herbs) - Bleu d'Auvergne (blue cheese, French import) All of them were quite good. My family preferred the smoked Gouda, while I liked the blue cheese most. It's great to see that Alexis de Portneuf stayed close to its roots, despite being owned by the giant Saputo!
