Before posting this review, I made every reasonable effort to resolve these issues directly with the company. I sent a formal letter over a year and a half ago outlining my concerns and requesting assistance, but I never received a response. More recently, I sent another detailed email, giving the company 14 days to respond with a plan to address these longstanding issues. That deadline has now passed, and once again, I received no response. This company installed my solar system in 2016. At the time of purchase, I was given expectations regarding the amount of energy the system would produce and the savings it would provide. Unfortunately, those expectations have never been met. In nearly ten years, my system has never produced the level of solar energy that was represented when I made this investment. As a result, I have spent thousands of dollars out of pocket on Southern California Edison bills that I reasonably expected my solar system would significantly reduce. Instead of receiving the savings I was promised, I have continued paying far more for electricity than I ever anticipated. What has been most disappointing is the lack of follow-through. The company has been aware of issues with my system for years, yet they remain unresolved. Despite numerous phone calls and emails over the years, I have received little to no communication, no meaningful updates, and no proactive effort to correct the ongoing problems. There were also issues from the very beginning. When my system was installed in 2016, I was never provided with the monitoring equipment that was supposed to come with it, nor was I informed that there was a monitoring app available. Without those tools, I had no way of monitoring my system's production or knowing that it was consistently underperforming. After years of phone calls and emails to the corporate office, I finally got someone to come out in 2023 to install the monitoring equipment that should have been installed from the beginning. It was only then that I learned there was an app that allowed me to monitor my system. During that same visit, the technician determined that my microinverters needed to be replaced. The replacement microinverters were shipped to my home, and the technician returned to pick them up for installation. However, the work was never completed. The technician left with the new equipment and never returned to finish the job. Despite additional attempts to follow up, I was once again left without answers or a resolution. I understand that mistakes happen and that every company occasionally encounters challenges. However, this is no longer a matter of a simple mistake or a temporary inconvenience. This has been an unresolved issue for nearly a decade. My goal has never been to leave a negative review. My goal has always been to have the solar system I paid for perform as it was represented and to have the company stand behind its product and installation. Unfortunately, after almost ten years, thousands of dollars in unexpected utility costs, years of unanswered phone calls and emails, an incomplete repair, and two formal written requests that went unanswered, I have been left with no meaningful communication and no resolution. I sincerely hope this review encourages the company to finally contact me, complete the repairs that should have been completed years ago, thoroughly evaluate my system, determine why it has consistently failed to meet the promised production, and stand behind the product they sold me. If the company reaches out with a genuine commitment to resolving these issues, I will gladly update this review to reflect that experience. I am writing to formally file a complaint against UniverCity Solar LLC, located at 242 East Airport…read moreDrive, San Bernardino, CA 92408, regarding unresolved roof damage, ongoing water intrusion, broken promises, and what I believe to be negligence and misrepresentation that dates back to 2022. UniverCity Solar has visited my home on two separate occasions over the past several years to address a roof leak that developed after the installation of their solar system. During those visits, their technicians identified cracked roof tiles as the cause of the leak, repaired those tiles, and sealed the affected areas. Despite these repairs, the roof leak continued. In January 2023, I communicated directly with Aaron, a representative of UniverCity Solar, who acknowledged the damage and promised that the company would repair the interior damage caused by the leak, including repainting the roof area stained by water intrusion. Aaron repeatedly delayed this work, citing a lack of available personnel, but reassured me multiple times that the repairs would be completed. At one point, he even stated that he intended to hire a professional painter to perform the work. Trusting these assurances, I waited in good faith for over a year, during which time no repairs were made. In late 2026, heavy rains resumed and caused additional damage, including deterioration to the drywall and window sill in my dining room--the same room originally affected by the roof leak. On December 3, 2026, UniverCity Solar sent Adam to inspect the roof. At that time, they claimed to have discovered damage to a board outside the solar panel areaand abruptly stated that they were no longer responsible for any repairs. This sudden reversal is unacceptable. Regardless of any newly identified issues, UniverCity Solar previously diagnosed the leak twice as being caused by cracked roof tiles, which they stated were responsible. I relied on their expertise and professional assessment. If their current claim is that the cracked tiles were not the cause, then the company is still responsible for misdiagnosing the issue on multiple occasions, which directly resulted in delayed corrective action and increased damage. Due to the age of the damage and the prolonged delays caused by UniverCity Solar, I am now unable to file a homeowners insurance claim, as the issue is no longer considered new damage. Their failure to correctly diagnose and permanently resolve the problem has directly hindered my ability to seek insurance coverage, resulting in financial harm. Additionally, I am deeply disappointed to learn that Tim, the salesperson who sold me UniverCity Solar's services, misrepresented the company's roofing credentials. I was told that UniverCity Solar carried a full roofing license, only to be informed later by Aaron that they carry only a limited roofing license. This discrepancy further undermines my trust in the company. I am especially disheartened by this treatment given that I have provided over three referrals to UniverCity Solar, all of whom became paying customers. This level of neglect and refusal to honor written and texted commitments--copies of which I possess--is unacceptable and does not reflect the service that was promised to me. At this point, I am unsatisfied and disappointed with UniverCity Solar's conduct and believe their actions constitute negligence and potential malpractice. I am requesting that UniverCity Solar be held accountable for: * Honoring their written and verbal commitments * Repairing the interior and exterior damage caused by the roof leak * Addressing the ongoing water intrusion issue in full I processed additional complaints to the Federal Trade Commission report number 195345513 and the Better Business Bureau under the Pacific Southwest, Central & Inland California division.

This company demonstrates a consistent pattern of poor communication, missed commitments, and lack of follow‑through. They were the original installers (the Paso Branch that is now closed) and were hired (the Redlands, CA branch) to replace our batteries. Site survey completed June 2025, plans approved November, permit held for four months--and still no installation. After I repeatedly chased them, they scheduled an install for 2/10/26, then canceled four days before due to missing parts. What followed: ignored calls, unanswered emails, empty apologies from management, and promises of "personal follow‑up" that never happened. Ultimately, they blamed the lease holder and walked away citing their contract for repair had been pulled. (no kidding after 10 months of having it in your lap without ANY end in sight). Based on documented timelines and repeated lack of communication, this experience reflects systemic operational issues rather than isolated errors.

I also came away feeling that OC Solar genuinely puts care and attention into each project. The project isn't fully complete yet (inspections, skirting, and a few other items remain), but the overall execution moved at lightning speed and exceeded my own expectations. Their bid was not the cheapest nor the most expensive bid we received, but ultimately it was fair and we do not regret our choice. If you have an older roof, I would budget an added 20%-30% on top of the initial bid price to leave room for any deck repairs and additional tile replacements that maybe needed. Overall, I was very pleased working with FR Roofing and would recommend them to friends and family.
