Always a great option for ice cream! It's not my favorite spot in town, but most of my friends are obsessed with it so it's the most often suggested place due to their vegan soft-serve and convenient location. Since I'm simple and usually get a standard twist cone with sprinkles, I'm easy to please. For me, the soft serve has been somewhat inconsistent; sometimes it's great and sometimes its really soft and has melted quickly which made it a race to eat! I've also had some random texture issues with some flurries. One time my wife had the drumstick flurry and I don't know what happened, but the texture became super grainy and almost like the ice cream was curdling/separating. That for sure felt like a one-off, but is now always in my mind and makes me far less likely to get a flurry. There is almost always a line in the evening and on weekends, but it does tend to more quickly. It's a time to chit chat and gives you plenty of time to check out the extensive menu. I love that it's dog friendly so pals can bring their babes or I get to see other people's dogs! They don't have a ton of seating, but it's not generally presented as an issue. I appreciate that the seating is behind the building and provides some shade for hot summer days, but wish it wasn't right next to the dumpster. read more

One of my favorite ice cream spots in Grand Rapids. They are consistent and pretty quick to get orders out the window. They usually have a line but it really never takes long. Frosty Boy has so many options for different sundaes, slushies, flurries etc. 9 times out of 10 I'm getting some sort of flurry. Most recently I had a cookie dough flurry and added m&ms. Just so good and they put the perfect amount of toppings in it. Parking can be kinda chaotic! The parking lot is small but there's residential street parking nearby. Duh, everyone knows that Frosty Boy is the best if you want some yummy ice cream. Prices were reasonable and they have a decent variety. I do like that they had two dye-free slushee options, but the one I got (blue raspberry) was soo thick and did not taste good. Frosty Boy is one of my favorite places in GR and it makes it even better when it's within 5 minutes walk from your house! I am a super basic person and love how reasonably priced it is. The staff are always so friendly and there's a decent amount of parking around for those who need it. There's a few picnic tables outside as well and you can sit to enjoy or walk around the nearby parks. I always order a kid's chocolate/vanilla twist in a cone as it's the perfect dessert size! I never feel judged for ordering a "kiddie" size and they're always very prompt. The lines are long but moves quickly and I am so happy to see this place survive so well after many years. They have a very large selection of items that are gluten free, dairy free, vegan, whatever you are in need of. They always have special monthly flavors. So we've been living here in GR for decades. Have passed by frosty boys a million times and it was not until this summer that we found out that they have GF, vegan options. May I just say it is so great! I love the Oreo one with either chocolate and vanilla. That one has been my favorite to order. As someone who is dairy free, this place is amazing! The fact that they offer dairy free soft serve means that I can get a flurry or a sundae. I had a genuinely disappointing experience here and tried to give the business an opportunity to respond privately. Unfortunately, instead of addressing my concerns, they doubled down, denied my experience, and deleted my public comments. When I reposted, they accused me of harassment. I ordered a chocolate shake made with chocolate hard serve. I was told they've never made shakes with hard serve... which simply isn't true, as I've ordered it before and it was made that way in the past. I said as much and they said I couldn't have had it there. But I did. Last time was less than a month ago and whoever made it, did it right. I decided to settle for a chocolate shake with chocolate soft serve. I didn't really want to leave empty handed in spite of my upset and after waiting in the long line. What I received was overloaded with syrup to the point of being inedible--it was so overpowering I threw it away after one sip. This isn't about a single bad shake. It's about being told I was mistaken when I know I wasn't, and then being silenced for speaking up. I won't be returning, and I hope this business reflects on how they handle feedback in the future.
