On our way home from a couple of days in the Shawangunk Mountains. My sister and I had a little bit of a craving for soft serve so we pulled in. This location has been there for 10 seasons and yet I have never been there before. It looks brand new, which is a testament to how well managed and cleaned it is. The staff were friendly, courteous, and lots of fun. I sampled something and probably could have sampled more, but we came there for the soft serve, and that's what we did. My sister got a Sunday and I got one as well. Only mine had more toppings because I just simply could not decide. I hadn't been here in years, it was good seeing some familiar faces despite not visiting in a while. The first order was placed inside of the store, it was very clean, they're seating. Everything about this place was spectacular. *Indoor and outdoor seating so we could bring the dog. And not just a crappy little metal table wobbling around and drawing bees, but many NICE tables under cover, as well as a few benches and picnic tables out by the yard. *Ice cream was completely delicious and perfect temperature (not so cold that it was basically frozen rocks, but just soft enough!). *Staff were friendly and polite. Super conveniently located right off 9w and down the road from the Walkway for a nice summer treat. They have a really great outdoor covered patio to enjoy your ice cream and relax after grabbing your order from the window. This is the 4th time I have been here and not once has it been disappointing. The flavors are fun and they vary from basics Cookies and Cream to fun Cookie Monster! The prices are on par with any small type of frozen confection store. They get extra stars for being clean and having outdoor seating but for an Ice Cream shop it seem to be missing the Wow Factor by having something unusual that would make me come back. This place reminded me of getting an Ice Cream at Stewart's while shopping for something else. Someone at this place should check out the competition at Joe's Dairy Bar in Hopewell Junction for additional gimmicks like a flavor of the month or at Zoe's in La Grangeville for pints and icee cream cookie sandwiches or at least get cool Tie Dye T-Shirts in 3&4XL sizes to sell to the customers for advertising. We had just gone on a nice long ride around the area, and we were in the mood for ice cream. This place popped up as being nearby on Yelp, and it seemed to have some good reviews, so we decided to head over. The ordering was a little chaotic, with no real line to speak of, just a crowd milling around the counter, with a lot of kids blocking view of the flavors. I ended up ordering banana cream pie and peanut butter fudge. Lee ended up with just banana cream pie. Overall, the ice cream was good, nice and balanced and not too sweet. Since the place was pretty busy, there weren't any good places to sit in the shade. They could use some umbrellas on the tables that aren't on the porch area. While on an ice cream safari to celebrate my daughters birthday, we looked on yelp and found the Frozen Caboose. It is right near the Walkway and has lots of parking. The flavor boards are separated into "Jane's Flavors and Perry's. Jane's flavors have no dyes or artificial ingredients, but Perry's does. They give very generously sized scoops, making even a small seem huge. We were unimpressed with the Rocky Road and Instagraham. The Rocky Road's peanuts in my daughter's scoop were soggy and the Instagraham was flavorless, but we would definitely recommend the Trash Can and the German Chocolate Cake flavors. The service was actually fairly good, my boyfriend really enjoyed how happy the girl was to serve us and he ended up really enjoying his (odd) milkshake. I had a simple vanilla sundae with hot fudge. I also tried the dulce de leche ice cream because they allow you to sample any flavors you want (and as many as you want!). THAT was an amazing flavor that I would definitely recommend if you're into trying new flavors. I usually stick to my regular order but I would definitely get this next time. My only complaint is that the ice cream isn't fantastic - it's good, but not fantastic. There are options to sit inside or outside the shop. We sat outside BUT the inside looked very clean. Great ice cream. Very nice setting, inside and on their deck. It was also very clean (including the men's room). I noticed their outside tables were not wood. Some places buy wood picnic tables but they always seem to be a sticky mess. These were a plastic type surface that could be easily cleaned (and they were clean). If you like soft ice cream, you will love this place. The vanilla was smooth and flavorful without any hint of off flavors. The chocolate tasted like chocolate which was impressive. It didn't have that cocoa processed with alkali taste associated with cheap ice cream. Only thing was that the price was a little high for what we got. The largest dish of ice cream wasn't that large. Still, if you plan on a trip to the walkway over the Hudson, this place is worth a visit. read more
