My sister and I popped in, on one sweltering Sunday afternoon in August, and I noticed many customers seemed like repeat patrons - clearly a good sign. Their ice cream is said to be homemade, but they are very hip. From newer tastes like the Dubai inspired profile (chocolate and pistachios) to tried and true classics like cookie dough. Each has a unique twist, like sea salt in the cookies and cream for extra depth. But it's the quality ingredients and generous mix-ins that truly make it satisfying. They also have cookies, which looked incredible (and taste delicious). They have over half dozen vegan flavors as well. Oh, and toppings are a fair 50 cents each. A few things kept it from five stars: -The bathroom was out of soap and had mixed water in an old bottle, which didn't work. Big fail! -Staff can be too quick (my sister asked for a cone and was charged for a waffle cone instead of standard). When we mentioned this, he didn't offer to make a smaller one or charge for a smaller one. -Charges aren't clear, except for that annoying tip screen. -I didn't see nuts anywhere on the offerings for toppings. -There is no option for a printed receipt. There is street parking, but I get the vibe that most of the patrons are local walk ins. Overall, Two Scoops Creamery is a new place for a nice treat.

I prefer creamier ice creams, sort of like a marriage of soft serve and scoopable ice cream, which might explain in part why it's my favorite in Charlotte: the mouth feel is more like gelato. The service always being friendly and tastes handed out equitably are more good reasons. But in the end, the ice cream is why we visit an ice cream parlor and Local Scoop delivers in spades. Today I tried one of their rotational flavors, red velvet Oreo, and it's maybe the best new flavor I have tried anywhere in years. Rich without being overwhelming, flavorful without smacking you in the face with the red velvet part. The Oreo chunks were plentiful and melded into the red velvet ice cream like a marriage made in dessert heaven. Finding Two Scoops is a little challenging since it's hard to see from the road, tucked behind some steps next to the exceedingly popular Easy Like Sunday. But once you find it, you will want to return again and again. I promise you'll think you're at a creamery. It's just that good.

They have 3 small tables and a kiddie table inside. Lucky for us, the place was empty. Given the location, we knew it would be pricy. With a 15% tip, the total came to $20. My son got a medium (2 scoops) in a cup and I got a medium in a chocolate dipped waffle cone. The important thing - the ice cream was delicious. We both enjoyed it very much. But... A tip to the owner - and sorry to be so blunt - the medium cup size is a joke. Way too small. Like way way way too small. I bet I got 50% more ice cream in my cone and see the pic - it wasn't overflowing. The large cup might even be too small for a medium. Given the price tag. When someone orders a medium, the portion size should be bigger but the worker is limited due to the size of the cup. Even though the ice cream was good and the waffle cone was fantastic, I doubt I would return.
