The ferry ride from Victoria to Seattle (the FRS Clipper conveniently goes downtown to downtown) is quite scenic, crossing the Salish Sea (I think?) and winding south thru the Puget Sound. I don't mean to sound snotty, but I'm glad I purchased the slightly more expensive tickets so that I didn't have to wait in the overcrowded pre-boarding lobby, which seemed like a Covid factory outlet. The seats on the ferry were leather, for what that's worth, but I gotta say my fellow passengers were in general very loud. There was a constant loud buzz and it got a bit tiring and annoying after a few hours. Possibly, the open seating area and ship's poor inner acoustic properties may amplify normal conversation; I've never thought trains and planes were loud, for the most part. The ferry has a very small outdoor area at the back. The waters in the middle of the channel are a dark, dark blue, almost black and on that day were somewhat calm and lightly textured - beautiful. The ferry passes thru the Puget sound as little towns wind by on either side. Finally, Seattle appears and looks strikingly large as the ship approaches.

You've got to make this trip! It is fast and fun! I wouldn't do it any other way unless I got the VIP seats on the top. I don't know what the coach people do, but we got great service. Great service by the entire crew. This is a fun way to blast your way over to Victoria, Vancouver Island!

We took the FRS Clipper when traveling to Victoria and back home, which was a good way to travel. The FRS Clipper is located in downtown Victoria at the Belleville Terminal. The process was easy and straightforward to board on the clipper. We went to the terminal, went through customs and then staff directed you to your seat. No disruptions on the ride home, except for one abrupt stop we had to make for a small boat who was cruising on by. The ride home to Seattle from Victoria was less than three hours. Throughout the clipper, there were racks where you can easily store your carry-on. There was also a refreshments stand where they serve a full menu of sandwiches, salads and smaller items, with drinks. Staff also checks in with passengers to order items. I'm glad we were able to travel by marine to Victoria, which was a relaxing and easy way to do it. It's not cheap, but it's worth doing at least once.

Took the Clipper to Victoria last week. We chose seats by the window and were pleased with our selection. It would be nice if they had WiFi or outlets to charge phones / laptops. Most of the crew was pleasant , only exception was a rather rude young woman working the bar / galley area. Many guests are not aware they can't sell beer until after boat leaves dock. ( Just be nice - it's your job. ) Trip back had choppy seas so boat offered barf bags & complimentary motion sickness tablets. Boarding & exiting ship was handled smoothly.

My first tour got canceled since not enough people had signed up, but there was great customer service and they moved us out to the next tour 15 minutes later. I was nervous because the small boat was completely open vs. being covered, but it was a beautiful day and the sea air felt so nice. The tour was led by Captain Jimmy, who had a very kind, friendly demeanor and immediately put us at ease. He seemed to be one step ahead of every other tour out there, to the point where we lucked out and ended up very close to a pod of orcas. Additionally, Jimmy was very knowledgeable and respectful of the animals. We saw many orcas and humpback whales as well as sea lions and birds. It was amazing to see how the entire ecosystem worked together. This was the best part of our trip and I will recommend this group to all my friends and family! If you are unsure about going whale watching, do yourself a favor and book it!

Additionally, we had a conference rate that Tourism Victoria couldn't facilitate and they both made it a seamless experience for us. The tour itself was beyond our expectations. Captain Brad and naturalist Amy were both professional and excited for the experience, too. We were on the Salish Shadow, a smaller vessel with one other couple. The seas were a bit choppy and as we went further out, it became chillier which made us grateful that insulated flotation jackets were provided. I got soaked with one big splash, because although we were offered to sit inside, I wanted to feel the wind in my hair... and ended up feeling a whole lot more! It was quite funny and not wholly unexpected. We witnessed how their networking worked in terms of the companies all helping each other. We came across one humpback feeding, which I'm sure was shared to our captain and stayed to watch for a few minutes, but quickly left to look for a different site as he'd heard a rumour that another site was better. We went about as far as we could go, given the time limits and did indeed find a rather large baleen pod, which I understand is more unusual. We saw numerous flukes and tails and one curious young humpback 'mugged' us by approaching although we were outside the recommended distance. Captain Brad, shared this with the other companies and two other boats showed up in a bit, which really showed how they cooperate. On the return trip, we went past a lighthouse with sea lions and also encountered seals. Some non-wildlife sights included a US nuclear submarine with two escorts, a military helicopter, float planes, harbour patrol trying to keep vessels off the 'aquatic runway,' shipping vessels, sailboats, ferries and fishing vessels. And they offered us some hot chocolate near the end, which was a lovely gesture. I would highly recommend this company, because although they can't guarantee great weather and whales 'on demand,' they care.

We were surprised when we arrived at the boat, it was way smaller than we expected. When we booked the reservation I could've sworn the picture showed a much larger boat. With 11-12 passengers and 2 captains it felt extremely crammed. It was also rainy that day and not all of us could fit inside the tiny cabin with the captain, so about 4-5 people had to sit outside in the rain/wind. We did see 2 pods of orcas during the tour, and first group got really close to us and possibly swam under the boat which was really cool (we saw a female, calf, and large male orca up close). The second pod we saw from very far away and all we could really see were black dots (that I think were fins?) in the distance. We also saw porpoises and various types of sea birds. The captains were really knowledgeable and friendly, and we enjoyed the tour overall. However the fact that we had to sit uncomfortably shoulder-to-shoulder really detracted from the experience. I also feel they should give a warning about possible seasickness, as the waves could be rough the farther out you get.

The location is on the dock on front street above an ice cream place. The staff is super friendly and appreciated my early arrival. We got a short talk about safety and what to expect. Then we donned suits to keep us warm and dry. Tip: use the hat they offer and gloves. The hood doesn't keep the wind from making your ears cold without holding it tight around your face. I ran to the dock and met Captain BJ who would be working with Allison our guide. The was helpful and allowed me to sit up front. I was more excited than a kid on Christmas morning. The boat starts and we leave the harbor. Then we started going really fast which was so awesome! We saw a sea otter playing in the tide current. There were harbor porpoises. But the steller sea lions were enormous and stunning. They were subbing themselves on the rocks. The piece de resistance was the orcas! A pod of orcas was hunting a lone steller sea lion. We must have sat there over an hour. Other boats gathered and we all watched. I'm not shy in admitting I was deeply moved. I cried a bit at how awesome this experience was and seeing beautiful orcas was on my bucket list. My favorite part was that this is a small business. They are locally owned and have a focus on conservation. The boat pulls water from the ocean to propel itself forward which means no gas, propeller or noisy engine that stresses out whales. We stopped to remove a mylar balloon from the water. I love when people practice what they preach! We continued and saw more eagles, rhiocerous ocelot, and more harbor porpoises. By the end my heart was full. Captain BJ said this was his second favorite trip of the year this far. I beamed all the way back to the office to return our gear.
