We really only came here to get beers and what I found was that their selection fell short of some of the other random state line stores I've been to over the years and the cold brew selection was very minimal so that was kinda a bummer as that's what we really came in for and we found that a lot of the slots were empty. Came down to Charlotte to see a concert and thought we'd drop into South Carolina to buy some liquor, as the taxes and situation are a lot better there. I will say, we saved money but it was more expensive than Greenville, SC. We spent almost $300 and figure we saved about $80. Worth it yes but less than I had expected. read more

I love Frugal's! They have so many options on both sides of the beer/wine and liquor! I find their associates always willing to answer a question or help locating an item. It's usually easy to get in and out of their location, parking wise. The exception to this is the day before a major holiday (totally understandable). Even if they are slammed, they work efficiently to get you through the check out process in the fastest way possible. You can find everything imaginable in this spirits store. I was looking for a particular liquor and 2 other stores told me it's a seasonal drink. Forget Disney, this is the happiest pace on earth!! Aisle and aisles of liquor on one side and beer,wine, and seltzers galore on the other! My recommendation would be to know what you need before you go because it will be overwhelming ( and probably expensive) if you go in there to browse! Staff is helpful if you need help finding something, and you will have questions trying to find something! They have a ton of variety and set up in an organized way. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE this store. They have just about anything you can ask for. It has so many selections of mixers, alcohol, liqueurs, and anything else you can think of. They have a separate section/room for beer and wine which is just as plentiful as the other side. The parking lot is huge and I have only once had to park across the way at the fireworks building. DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT WAIT UNTIL RIGHT BEFORE A HOLIDAY. The employee told me that the line was wrapped at the end of the building on Christmas Eve. Please plan accordingly. I typically come here to get my fix of Titos, Captain Morgans, Deep Eddy for the hubby, and Malibu. These are all the large size bottles which all cost under $30 each. The prices do not compare to your local ABC store. You will save anywhere from $3-5 a bottle which doesn't seem like much but if you are buying 3 or more bottles, it can make an impact. They have cheap alcohol to very selective and expensive liquors which they keep behind the register. You can see their selection but you will need to request it from the employee. I come here at least once a month to fill up my liquor cabinet. This will always be my liquor store of choice and it should be yours too. read more

Been a long time since I've been here but has not changed much at all. Liquor is on the right and Beer, Wine and Party Supplies are on the Left with a wall in between to keep the State happy. Before we moved, we had a big neighborhood party because the movers would not move any alcoholic beverages. Sometime in the near future, we're going to have friends visit to see the new house. As such, we will fix whatever they may want within reason. Droved down yesterday and stocked up on the basics for when friends drop in. Saved about 25% over local prices with tax but that was only because of the quantity we bought. If you have to drive more than 10 miles, getting a single bottle is not worth the money. Only works in bulk. Store was crowded but this was a late Friday afternoon so what do you expect. With Socials Distancing and with limited cash registers open, took a bit longer than it should have. But I immediately saw the different types of alcohol and liquor on signs, and that was helpful. Everything is clearly marked a price, a cash price that is a little lower than the Credit or debit card price. And I like how they have all the brands of each liquor and one individual section. If you drink any type of alcohol or liquor, this is your place to go, and bring cash to save a little bit on what you would normally spend in the ABC store. Being from out of town, I like browsing stores for things I can't find at my hometown liquor stores. This store has a great selection and is pretty darn big. They do have some good prices and if I lived in the area, I'd totally be here as a regular. It's easy to get to right off the highway (if you're going south) and it near the Carowinds Amusement park. Parking is abundant but get there before 7p as they close early on the days they're opened. I think that's a SC thing more than a Frugal MacDoogal thing. When I was a kid, my dad had a convenient store, his rule was nothing is as important as the person standing in front of you with money. Not the phone, sales people, the person in front of you gets all the attention. I just had that experience with cashiers, you know, they are always doing something that isn't as important as taking someone's money, this guy was unwrapping some sort of liquor promo crap, he kept doing what he was doing and just let me stand there. Unwrapped about 3 more, finally walked over and acted like I was troubling him for wanting to pay for my wine. You know I wouldn't give a care if someone was rude to me and didn't talk to me if the prices were really good, but prices are the same. You can buy things on sale in NC instead of driving all the way to SC to save a dollar. You know time is money. And actually my wine was the same price at Harris Teeter. I walked out of there saying I will never step foot back in Frugal MacDoogal. I can't write what I really said, out loud to myself in my car. But it was along the lines of bump that place. read more

I alway enjoy coming here when I need alcohol of any kind. It's a warehouse of liquor, beer and wine. Anything you could imagine.. From the mini to the AA size! One side of the warehouse carry beer, keg, local brewing and different type of wines. The other side carry all the hard liquor imaginable. If you're having a party., This place is worth the drive.. A one stop shop.. and when you pay cash or debit, it's cheaper than paying by credit card. Jackpot! The correct answer is: South Carolina. Frugal's is the best location to buy beer, wine and liquor or spirits in the same place if you live in Charlotte. Seriously! It's just a fifteen minute drive down by Carowinds. The store is literally divided in two - liquor on the left side, beer, wine and everything else on the right side. Two separate doors. You need a law degree to understand why they have to do that. But everything you could possibly need for a huge party is under one giant roof and they take credit cards. Their website is confusing. ".com" is the Nashville store and ".net" is the Carolinas store. The marketing person who told them that was a good idea should be shot, tarred, feathered and then shot again. Not open on Sundays! Frugal MacDoogal, I do love the name but I did not love my experience. I do think that it is neat to be able to purchase wine, liquor, beer and champagne in one stop! Plus, the options were vast. Overall, my experience was memorable but not in a good way. The store is in the same building but is separated: one is the liquor side and the other is beer and wine. We started off on the beer side but split up after deciding on a cocktail to make for the night. I got carded as soon as I walked in to meet my friend on the liquor side which confused me and he asked if I was here with other girls so I responded yes. Honestly, Charlie was the real issue with my visit. He would not let my friends check out on the other side until we were carded, for me AGAIN! So, I was extremely unhappy about it. Once our ID's were verified, the guy said "they're good Charlie." Then he said "I am sorry you were harassed ma'am." Frugal MacDoogal is an amazing place filled with a lot of alcohol. One of attributes of this place is that the alcohol is reasonably priced and they have many types of spirits, beer and wine. Also this is the only place that I can find aguardiente which is a spirit from Colombia. Even though it is a little bit of a drive for me it is well worth it! read more

Frugal MacDoogal has a fair selection of good craft beers. They also have a fair amount of dusty old bottles that have been on the shelf for a while. It would be nice to see them start carrying a wider variety of popular craft beers, They devote quite a bit of thier floor space to the macro brews (Coors, Budweiser, Miller, etc...) They have a wall of singles, mostly dominated by 22 oz bottles. The wall of singles is situated directly in front of a huge wall of windows, which serves to cause alot of the beer to be light struck (skunky). They do not have many 12 oz singles to choose from, and they don't allow you to create your own 6 pack... The pricing is fairly good, but for my money I prefer Brawleys Beverage for most of my beer purchasing needs The liquor side of the store is a different story all together.
