Fruit Barn is a cute little neighborhood market that I often stop at to pick up produce on the way home from class or the gym but unfortunately their hours don't work well with my schedule. I think they're either open until 6 or 7pm, but I'm hoping they'll have spring/summer hours because I hate driving by as they're packing up the outdoor display. The selection is nice and there's lots of organic stuff, just not so much organic produce. Still, it's definitely a better option than Safeway produce with lower prices, but you can find anything packaged here cheaper at TJ's. $10 plastic minimum. read more

omg, they sell Have'A Corn Chips over here! i was so happy when i found them here! now i dont have to trek all the way over to the richmond district just to buy some. Neat place with a great selection of food items including organic fruit & snacks! Dairy (milk & different kinds of cheeses) and pasta! Also unique international items. A sign near the register conveys a minimum of $5 for credit/debit. Friendly staff. ***Though I did spot a somewhat large furry "creature" darting from the front corner once (!) - that was startling! Despite that, I'll still re-visit to grab essentials though I'll be sure to wear closed-toed shoes! read more

Great selection and cheap prices especially compared to Whole Foods up the street.

I have been shopping at the Fruit Barn for the last 20 years and I am sorry to see the changes that have occurred. The full bins of fruits and vegetables that used to be out on the sidewalk are gone and the bins inside are sparse of produce and groceries. I went in for a nice loaf of Metropolis bread recently and the gentleman told me they no will no longer carry it. I will have to find another convenient produce market with fresh and reliable staples. :( read more

I love this place and could almost do all my grocery shopping here. The fruits & veggies are excellent quality, lots of organic choices and the produce prices are far lower than safeway. Thanks to fruit barn, I can afford to eat organic kale at less than $2 a bunch! Last time I checked, it was almost $5 for a few wilted scraps of leaves at safeway. They have great bulk items too and have recently added more variety to their inventory with a huge selection (I can't remember the brand) of grains, flours, cookie mixes as well as organic meat. They have a good selection of chocolate, cheese, teas & coffee as well. The owner & cashiers are always really friendly. read more

Here are some free tips: If you are a produce store, throw the rotten produce away; it will keep the fruit flies down. If you run a business, maintain some change in your register, so that you do not have to make change in pennies. Learn to say hello and thank you to your customers; it goes a long way. You won't have an opportunity to practice any of these tips on me again, but perhaps you will apply them to the next sucker who wanders through your door. read more

A 3 1/2 star place, really, but the warm service and cartoons of produce on the wall ("Last Mango in Paris", etc.) compel me to round up. I've never found the produce particularly outstanding, but it's generally pretty fresh and reasonably priced. A good selection of other food items as well, which is much appreciated on a street with little in the way of grocery offerings. Service is consistently warm, sincere, and efficient. read more

Fruit Barn rules. The produce here is mostly local and far cheaper than Safeway or the new Whole Foods on ocean (duh). Tomatoes are always less than $1/lb. This place is such a gem in SF! it's hard to find a grocery store in the area with reasonable prices. I got 3 carrots, 3 apples, a head of broccoli and a stem of green onions for $4. Such a steal.The service has been great here too. Although they may not have as much selection as other grocery stores, they have a good amount of staple vegetables and fruits. Fruit barn always offers the fruits, veggies and herbs I want for a cheap price. I am always please after I leave fruit barn because I have a weeks worth of produce for around $15. Trader Joe's and more Safeway have pitiful produce that is either not ripe or goes bad in a day, Fruit Barn offers great produce! They also have cheap flour and sugar and baking products as well as whole wheat raspberry bars I live by and some delicious trail mixes. All in all, Fruit Barn is superior. read more

he has organic apples, berries, the rest doesn't matter (bananas, mangos, etc) and he has greek yoghurt (which I suggested he carry) and I like talking to him even though I kid him that he should speak english to me (he has an accent). I still go to Whole Foods up the street for Goat Kefir which I don't expect him to carry. He is a great neighborhood business and I hope he is still there for another 10 years at least. read more

I have decided that I love this place. I spent way more than intended on just a few items, but it was worth it. The man at the counter let me add coconut juice on to my bill even though I only had $20, making him lose out on $0.11 but not on the sale. Now that is good business! read more

I love this place because the workers are so friendly. I can also find a lot of things here that I have trouble finding at bigger supermarkets like Tahini when I want to make my own hummus - also the sun dried tomatoes they sell in the baggies by the cash register is very good to throw in your pastas and salads! That said - some of their grocery items can be pricey, along with their organic milk and yogurts. Also, be sure to check the date on the milk. I once picked up a gallong without checking the date and didn't realize that I barely had a week before the expiration. Luckily that wasn't a problem since my toddler daughter (and my husband) can go through a gallon like no one's business! So that's why I am giving 3 stars, oh and they don't carry pine nuts...and don't even think about bringing a stroller in this place - yes, it's a pretty tight squeeze once you're in there! read more

Very affordable with friendly and helpful staff. They have a good selection of ethnic food and spices. Do recommend!

The not so good: -More often than I would like, the produce is not super-fresh. I'm sure this is heavily dependent on when they get shipments in, and there are many small groceries that are far worse, so it's not a huge detractor for me. -It's a little cramped, I suppose? The good: -Very friendly staff. The owner is awesome, as are his employees. -Very vegetarian(I assume vegan, as well) friendly. -They have a good assortment of things I can't find at Safeway (particularly Tasty Bites - which, if you are lazy like me and love Indian food, you should definitely try) -Prices are great. -Above the veggies, they have labels that tell you what each thing is best for nutrient-wise, and, if I recall correctly, meal suggestions as well. I've lived in Ingleside for awhile now but only just discovered this place. Dried fruits, nuts, fresh produce and herbs, fresh feta cheese, an amazing tea selection. I found Yogi Kava Stress Relief there and I only ever find it at Whole Foods. There are goofy fruit and veggie cartoons on the wall to add to the charm too. Hooray! read more

My girlfriend introduced me to this particular fruit barn a couple of years ago and ever since I've been hooked. It's uber cheap and they have a lovely mix of grains and a virtual potpourri of trail mixes. That will leave the most un-granola person in a state of happiness. They've always got what I need and you can't get much better in this part of the city. Plus the cute dyke that works there certainly helps. read more

I'm so lucky to have a produce store in my hood!! I love this place and have been a regular customer since it opened. They offer good variety and good prices (much better than the supermarkets). I can stock up on fruits and veggies and bulk beans and grains here. I need to cook more and eat out less so I anticipate some increased trips to Fruit Barn in my near future. read more

my favorite produce market in the world. the people who own this place are really kind and the cashiers who work here are always very conversational and cool. the best thing about this place is that it is pretty cheap. you'll be able to find what you need and also get some new yummy stuff you're not sure how to pronounce. This place is awesome!! Very inexpensive with very high quality goods. Lots of veggies and fruits that you often can't find at corporate grocery stores. Also, they sell items in bulk! If you eat a lot of rice and beans or you have a big family to feed, this is the place to go. You can get everything you need (minus the meat) for a great soup for under $5. I highly recommend getting the apricot coconuts logs that can be found at the register (just ask if you can't find them). The staff is friendly and the radio station they play rocks. read more

The selection is amazing: they have tons of different fruits and vegetables, every single grain or flour you can think of, legumes, European candies and cookies, and a large variety of cheeses. The fruits and vegetables are fresh, seasonal, and much cheaper than at a larger store like Lucky or Safeway. The canned and dried goods are a bit more expensive, but not by much, and it's useful for when you're missing just one thing in your recipe. The staff is very friendly, and the checkout line is fast and efficient. One thing to remember is the minimum credit card charge of $10. read more

My only complaint about this place is their hours aren't long enough. This is a marvelous little market to have in the neighborhood, considering the closest supermarkets all require getting in the car. Their produce is fresh. They have fresh baked bread and bulk foods. My daughter and I come here every week for our weekly produce and milk, I get my Horizon Milk for only $4.79 compared to $8 at Safeway!!! The owner is really nice and the girls that work there are great too! Get all of my produce here so much cheaper than Safeway or Trader Joes and it's only a minute from my house! read more

to have a super market in the middle of ocean in between traders joe and safeway, and right next to the semi-ghetto in ingleside and not so ghetto westwood park/montery, is pretty risky therefore i give it 4 stars for being a cheap convient place to get ur fruits and veggies if u dont want to go to the typical mainstream markets. the place is relatively small, so don't expect to find stuff that you might want to find at a bigger chain market stores, but they do have what u need like pepper, olives, and ur daily products that you might want to cook for dinner at a cheap rate and quick service read more

This is a great place, with produce priced below your standard big chain market. Bulk olives and feta cheese. Spinach, mushrooms and spring greens are also sold in bulk and the variety of veggies and fruits are incredible. You can also get milk, steaks and cheeses. Highly recommended!! read more
