The BEST produce store - truly feels like farmers market quality, but better prices and more convenient - and friendly staff! It's a small, but incredibly efficient and well-run store. It's the only place outside the farmers market where I know I'll get good fruit. Also, I was hunting for Chinese eggplant the other day, which normal grocery stores don't carry, and they had plenty of them! I love these guys! I live on Telegraph Hill, but drag my butt over to Church St. just to buy my produce from friendly people who really know their stuff. I often find I can get everything I need for dinner, always surprised that they've got some weird little thing i thought I'd have to stop at another store to purchase. My neighborhood market - the best! Church P has fresh, well priced, wonderful produce. Much better than Safeway and cheaper too. I load up on veggies every week. They are well stocked with lots of other things too - pasta and sauce from Italy, jams and olive oil and vinegars and lots of Bob's Red Mill specialty flours. This is such a great store. I always enjoy stopping in when I am in the area. The Caprice and ION chocolates are big hits with my wife and children. We also love the smoked salmon they carry. Everything they sell is quality, but what separates Church Produce for me is the service. I go to other "quality" grocers and I have to check myself out now. Everything has become so impersonal and it's all about cutting costs. I enjoy coming here because the staff is always friendly and helpful. In fact, the cashier talked me into trying the Dubai chocolate everyone is going crazy over. I would have never bought that on my own, but he recommended it so I brought it to our family dinner for Mother's Day and I was a huge hero. Everybody loved it and couldn't believe I even found it. Awful customer service. The owner/shop manager tried to up charge me at the counter for a product they had placed incorrectly on a shelf. When it rang up at the counter, I flagged that it wasn't the price that was marked on the shelf. He proceeded to blame the mistake on other customers "moving it" and refused to take accountability - insisting that I or someone else had moved it on purpose. He was incredibly disrespectful and handled the issue poorly. I will never be shopping here again. read more

Love this corner store. Many times Ive been able to find treasures that I can't find at Whole Foods, Safeway, etc. For example, the pink pineapple and okra. Produce is also always fresh and they have the latest in snacks as well (for example, kettle cooked truffle chips!!!) The only thing is that have very limited vegan / non dairy products but I'm confident they will start supporting my vegan lifestyle soon! read more

Terrific local grocery that has found a way to cram in all the essentials plus some surprise international finds like Persian pomegranate molasses and fun Greek items, like god Halloumi cheese. Real care seems to go into the produce they select and it's great not having to go to a big grocery store every time you need something. Between them and nearby Baron's (butcher), most of your cooking needs are met. The owners seem nice and engaged with the community. Place has a nice locals only vibe, although I'm told the firefighters in SF come from all over to shop here (I'm not aware of firefighters having any particular talent at picking produce or anything, I just thought that was interesting). read more

The produce is super high quality (the peppers are super juicy), great selection of everything in such a small space. The imported Greek olive oil is amazing and a great selection of cheeses. This is basically like having a store that is also a farmers market. I like to think of it as highly curated fruit and vegetables. Everyone who works here is really friendly and knowledgeable and everyone who shops here seems to be really nice and friendly. One day of shopping here and multiple people from the fire department we're also shopping I think that is a very good endorsement. Firefighters drive all over the city and they can pick any small produce store to pick out but they chose this one probably because they know the same thing that I do the fruit and vegetables here are unbeatable. It's easy to make vegetables look good in a store so I wanted to show you how good they look in my refrigerator. The only thing I would add is after going here for six months I have noticed the same people working seven days a week. Dear owner of store. I do not think it's sustainable to have people working seven days a week. I would recommend if you can't hire other people only staying open six days a week. Some customers might be upset about this but as a community we have to do what's best for everyone. read more

The hard-working Greek family who currently runs Church Produce has made it a gem of a go-to market for produce and many other items. I really appreciate their fair "non-chi-chi" pricing and special offers of organic produce, such as romanesco swirled cauliflower, red kuri squash and curly escarole. There's always something new and fun to try. They also stock a full array of the Rancho Gordo beans promoting indigenous and heirloom varieties. I've enjoyed getting to know the daughters Fatini and Demetra through these pandemic times, and miss them now that a new baby arrived. I'm obsessed with this place. It has great quality product and reasonable prices. I love picking up a veggie or two and while not a full grocery it has other products as well. For example - I just went and got beautiful Swiss chard for only 89 cents a bunch and got tomatoes, tomato paste, cream and pasta for a recipe. I usually encounter such sweet workers when I come here during the week. Today, I was checked out by a very rude man with a mustache and glasses. I asked him a couple of questions and he wouldn't respond. He also overcharged me on an item. The fruit I get here is often brown inside or past its freshness, but I go here due to the convenience and friendly female employees. No point in going any more. They have a very good selection of products (fruits, veggies, European brands, local products) at very decent prices. The store is small, but the advantage is that you can shop in no time! Plus, you end up paying less than if you go to the neighborhood bigger supermarket. The staff is also very friendly. Every time I go to Church produce, I wonder, what's the catch? It's full of amazing variety of fruits, vegetables, dairy, pantry goods, and bread, the prices are super reasonable, the staff is very friendly, and unlike the big grocery stores nearby, there's never a line to get in. I was a little hesitant to write this review because this place feels like a neighborhood secret and it could be nice to keep it that way. But they do such a good job here, I have to recognize that and spread the word. This is an incredible produce market with almost anything you could need, freshly delivered every day, open all the time, and with very reasonable prices. We feel that this is one of the most valuable businesses in the neighborhood! But I am actually coming to leave a review because they are often closing a little early these days. I completely understand that sometimes things come up and I know they are a family run business. But we do almost all of our shopping there and it's pretty annoying when we arrive at 6:45pm, sometimes earlier, and they are already closed (they open til 7pm in theory). It's just a question of managing people's expectations-- if you can't reliably stay open until the promised 7pm, then change your hours :) read more
