We absolutely loved celebrating my friends birthday here. The restaurant is so quaint and you feel…read moreyou're in your families home. The service was exceptional. Our server Abby was friendly and helpful but not over the top- just right. The owner was lovely and brought the food to us . We had the baguette with butter (amazing), the ricotta dumplings (star of the show), lettuce salad (best I've ever had), asparagus, and the short rib pasta which we didn't care for. But overall everything was delicious and wonderful!

The salad was way too overpriced for the portion size and there wasn't anything special about it. Maybe other than the snap peas were slightly charred? The beef tartare was okay. I think if the toast was not as thick, the flavor would be more balanced. The char on the toast was the main flavor. The ricotta dumplings were the best thing we ate that night, mostly because of the broth. It was equally light and full bodied, I could've had an entire bowl of the broth to myself! The ricotta dumplings were good but definitely needed the broth to complete it. Otherwise, it was just okay on its own. The dish comes with two dumplings. The half chicken was good. The charr on the chicken was perfect. The chicken breast was on the dry side though. The salad was more on the bitter side and it lingered. I liked that the bread was mixed in the salad and soaked up the chicken juice. I think there is room for improvement in terms of the food quality. The pricing definitely doesn't make sense. Half a chicken was only $5 more than the ricotta dumplings?? Idk. $21 for 5 endive leaves, snap peas, maybe a quarter of an avocado... the most overpriced item on the menu for sure.

My girlfriend and I were looking for deep-dish pizza after leaving a brewery in Echo Park, and…read moreafter doing a little research, we ended up at Masa. Thankfully, it's only about a 5-10 minute walk from Monkish, making it an easy stop if you're already in the area. One thing I appreciated right away was that the restaurant is very upfront about the wait time for their deep-dish pizzas. As soon as you walk in, they let you know that deep-dish pizzas take about 50 minutes to prepare. That gives you a chance to order immediately and get the process started so you're not surprised later. We ended up ordering one of their meat-heavy deep-dish pizzas. When I initially considered ordering a medium or large, our server warned me that those sizes could easily feed three or four people. Since it was just my girlfriend and me, I confidently said I was hungry and could handle it. I was wrong. We ended up taking about half the pizza home. The portions are huge, but more importantly, the pizza was delicious. If you're a fan of true deep-dish pizza, this place absolutely delivers. The crust, sauce, cheese, and toppings all came together really well, and it was worth every minute of the wait. We also ordered a few beers and drinks while we waited, and everything was excellent. Even though we were already completely full, I couldn't pass up dessert because I noticed they offered crème brûlée, which is one of my favorite desserts. What really caught my attention was that they had a chocolate crème brûlée, something I had never seen before. The chocolate crème brûlée was good. I'd probably rate it around a 7 out of 10. It wasn't the best crème brûlée I've ever had, but it's also not an easy dessert to execute well, and I enjoyed trying a chocolate version of it. Overall, Masa was a great experience. Excellent deep-dish pizza, generous portions, good drinks, and friendly service. I would absolutely come back the next time I'm in the Echo Park area.

We had a small wedding (60 people) and Masa was not only perfect for the size of our crowd but SUCH a hit with our guests. Everyone was talking about how good the food was all night. Rhonda, the owner, was INCREDIBLE to work with. She was communicative, kind, and so accommodating (some of our guests had dietary needs). She came herself to set up our food with Carlos. They were on time, super efficient and made everything look fantastic. They even printed cards with all the food descriptions and set those out in front of every pizza, salad, and app so our guests would know what was what. And I don't know how they worked this magic, but all of the food was so hot and fresh when our guests started serving themselves, like it had just come out of the oven. I was blown away. Couldn't have been more perfect. I really, really can't say enough wonderful things about Rhonda, Carlos, and Masa. It was the easiest part of wedding planning and my new husband and I are just SO grateful for all of Rhonda's kindness and Masa's incredible food.

But, when combined, they harmoniously balanced the flavors of salt, acid, and sweetness. The beef tapa was savory indeed. You could also cut into it easily. I've never had anything like Java rice. That isn't normally what I eat at home so this was a pleasant surprise. The vibrant, yellow-orange, grain got its aroma from the garlic and turmeric. You cannot order a protein without ordering a side of Java rice. With that said, because it was savory, it also went well with the sweet Longganisa. The Longganisa was juicy and a little bit crispy on the outside. The acidity from the Tomato Cucumber Salad helped tie the entire dish together. It was a much needed balance between the proteins and rice, and enhanced their flavors even more. The Mexican coke was a great refreshment. I loved the old-school coke bottles. Drinking out of that while consuming refined dishes does elevate the experience overall. The staff were friendly and helped with explaining the menu. They also delivered the food to our table, that was kind of them. Thank you! When you're finished, you'll need to take your dishes up to their counter. The restaurant is small and has limited seating, mostly high table. They also have two tables outside. We went on a Saturday afternoon (around 2pm). Parking was difficult to find. We had to park two blocks away in a residential area. If you do decide to visit in the afternoon like we did, prepare to do some walking and bring a hat. Again, Kuya Lord is an EASY recommendation! I'm so happy that my husband and I finally got to try it out. I would love to come back to try more of their food. Well done!
