The staff were friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. Although the place was packed, they were fast at seeing each patient in a timely manner & getting them set for their eye exams or frame shopping. I went to fruitvale optometry for an appointment scheduled for both me and my son. I'm a first time mother and my son is under 1. I figured I'd make him an appointment alongside me whether he needed one or not but just to have him seen, they were so nice about that! I felt very comfortable with the doctor and staff. I did go during the morning hours/early afternoon, it was still pretty busy although I should say it was a Friday as well. I was able to have my stroller inside it was big enough, and they accept medi-cal! read more

An Absolute Gem. Dr. İrani is very good . He s very patient observant and experienced. Also, the staff is really nice. The selection for glasses are also pretty fantastic. What impressed me the most was within the time I was sitting waiting for my return. I heard Dr. Irani speak three different languages fluently with patients. Also, the parking is easy. I honestly used to like going here, but the service has gotten bad. I missed a couple of appointments due to work and forgot to reschedule, so they told me there would be a fee now for missing your appointment. And it was a ridiculous price, I believe she said $36. this rule is going to make them lose business, along with the customer service. I'm sure I can find a better place to go. Also the parking is extremely hard in this area and they break into cars a lot due to it being in the Bart plaza, not a very pleasant place. Don't leave anything of value in your car! read more

I've been there twice and both times had to wait 30+mins past my appointment time to be seen. Stop overbooking if you don't have the staff to handle it! They're so persistent with reminders and a fee if you cancel, which is fair, but the consideration should go both ways. People are taking time off to be there. read more

The only reason why I'm giving up two but should actually be zero. One of the employee who checked up on my left eye told me it's nothing serious cause I told her that it's been a lot of redness going on. Told me to ignore it. Next year came along to renew my prescription. The other guy told me it's something serious. Now my left eye end up having a pterygium. Could've taken care of it sooner than later on! read more

Horrible business!!! The incompetency at this place is unimaginable. They also nickel and dime the heck out of their customers and don't listen to instructions correctly. All around ignorance. I came in to get prescription glasses and brought my own frames. They charge me $20 extra for doing that. So dumb. When I got the glasses back 4 weeks later, they were not done correctly. I had to wait 3 more weeks for them to fix it. When I came back the second time, the prescription was all wrong and the vision was blurry. They refused to give me a refund or fix it. With medi-cal insurance I get my vision exams covered and one pair of eyeglasses annually! The Dr. and people who work here are very customer service oriented, and great help finding the best glasses for your vision. Looking forward to getting my third pair. I visited Fruitvale Optometry on two occasions between December 2024-January 2025 for an eye exam and follow up testing. The reception/intake staff were friendly and efficient. Overall they have a decent selection for frames and brands. Don't go here if you're seeking thoughtful care or quality customer service. As a person who has never worn glasses, I found the doctors to be unfriendly and lacking of bedside manner. I was not given any information on what to expect prior to several of the tests so I found them to be invasive and a bit overwhelming. What was especially concerning was that I was given eye drops that dilated my pupils with no warning regarding the effects of the medication. The doctor also did not bother to tell me advance that I would need to plan for impaired vision and not drive myself to and from the office. This was extremely frustrating as a first time experience, and dangerous. I did provide feedback to the front desk staff when I returned weeks later to pick up my order for glasses but the answer was "we assumed the doctor would tell you not to drive"... which I felt gave no accountability or reassurance that my feedback would be considered or taken seriously. After many good years as a client of Fruitvale Optometry, I had an unexpected bad experience over the phone. Since recordings are made of every phone call and text, I encourage a manager or owner to go back and listen to the calls that lead to this review. The first, which went well, lasted 2min 44sec on 8/23/24 at 10:26AM. I called to let the office know I was running late, she suggested I not come because I would be over 15 minutes late. This employee never mentioned a $30 rescheduling fee. This information was also in a text, but I missed that statement. This helpful employee offered the solution of being on a waitlist and said they would call back Monday if someone cancelled. They didn't call me back on Monday, perhaps because no one cancelled? Today, 3 days later, I called to set up another appointment. This conversation went badly and honestly really upset me. It was 2 calls with a young woman employee at 5:02pm and 5:06pm on 8/29/24. It was not so much the news that I had to pay a rescheduling fee, but how this person talked to me. They offered no solutions, and they seemed determined to put me in my place. In the second call, I felt that my privacy had been unnecessarily invaded when she went back to listen to the call on 8/23. It seemed it was for the purposed of invalidating my story. Is that something you want to do with a customer? to prove who's right? I made a mistake by not reading a text in it's entirety. If I missed an appointment and I can't afford a rescheduling fee then offer a creative solution like taking a cancelled appointment. I'm not a dishonest person and I'm pretty flexible. read more

This is my go to optometry! Staff has always been friendly and warm every time I have visited. They take COVID measures seriously and ensure that you have been screened and are practicing distancing. Both of the optometrists are friendly and personable. I feel like my concerns are always addressed and answers are always real and valuable. Recently I had my glasses made here with the frames and everything when I got my glasses the frames came out crooked and they didn't do anything to fix the issue.I did tell them when i got them but the only took them out to the back but came out the same day with the same.I would definitely not recommend this optometry specially when your paying above 500 for a pairs of glasses I would've expect for them to get me a new frame that don't come out crooked it. read more

It's always a pleasure to visit Dr. Payam Z. Irani at the Fruitvale Optometry. He never disappoints excellent eye treatment. The staff is very helpful and friendly. I walked into the office on a Friday I spoke to the office assistant, I explained that I was so far behind for my annual visit, and if it was possible for me to see Dr. Irani. I was in luck; he was working the next day Saturday. My appointment was set for the next day. Dr. Irani is very thorough; in my visit I had Gonioscopy, Retinal Photography, and a extensive Visual Field Exam. I let Dr. Irani know about the inching in my eyes that happens in the morning. He prescribed eye drops; I thank God he had the eye drops in his office instead of me going to the pharmacy to get it filled. [What a time saver! Right..!] My reading vision was increased, in my progressive lenses. I brought my own frames in for a new pair of glasses. My glasses are very similar to the pair in my last Yelp review last year. These glasses have a brown frame. I chose the brown tint for the new progressive lenses. I can't remember the name of the office assistant helping me, she picked out a new case for my glasses, at no cost, I was surprised to get a new glass case for my glasses. The turnaround time for my glasses to be shipped off and made was around a week. I got a text alert and a email sent to me to pick up my new glasses. A very helpful way to notify patience I get so busy, time goes by so quick the alerts are a perfect reminder to pick up your glasses. When I put my new pair of glasses on...Whoa! ...So clear my vision was so clear, I was very surprised my feeling was, "I can see" I was happy. The cost was very affordable, for anyone that will complain about his prices, should consider, vision is one of the most important things to have. The staff and the professionalism for vision care are well worth the cost. I bring my own frames in when I buy a new pair of lenses. At my age, change is hard for some of us older people. I did notice a huge selection of designer frames the young people will love, and for those who love designer frames This is my second review, I am so happy that the quality care and a pleasant experience still remains. I also noticed Dr. Irani's practice has picked up in clientèle, his office got busy. That is to be expected, when you are a popular doctor, word gets around. I am so happy to be with him for a little over 10 years. I was very lucky to walk in and be seen the next day. Most doctors want you to make an appointment. A very good doctor's visit! First off walking in the office is filthy . The employees have no patient relation adequate. Besides not being acknowledge as I walk in the office. I went in to ask a simple question in regards to being a new patient and my insurance. Front desk employee Maria attend me after i watched her stay on her phone for 5min. Once she attend me her attitude made me not want to return to this office again. As if I was bothering her asking her basic questions in regards to my insurance benefits. Did not help me with my questions and told me to call my insurance instead.. when I recall you guys accept vsp? So I don't understand why she couldn't answer my questions. I have been going to Fruitvale optometry for almost 7 years now. I have always gotten great and courteous service. When my son needed glasses, I also took him here. If I ever had an issue with my glasses they took care if it right away. The doctors and staff are always very friendly and helpful. During this past year's pandemic, they knocked it out of the park. I scheduled appointment for my daughter week before for Sunday got reminder call Saturday morning positive I was gonna be there Sunday but she had fever the night before so I called to let them know the situation that she was sick and I won't be able to bring her in and they tell me that I need to pay $30 fee before I can reschedule like I'm be mindful considerate to others didn't want to get anyone sick and they where just so rude I asked to speak with office manager and she didn't seem to want to help at all was being very sarcastic Dr payam and Dr Lu are really good Dr but just staff needs a little more work in these types of situations. These guys are the best! I love my new glasses and when I lost them I tried to replace them with a low cost service (Zenni) and I don't know why, but those classes just didn't come out right. I ended up replacing my pair from fruitvale again and the second pair is also perfect and remarkably better than the Zenni pair. 10/10. read more

I recently came back to Dr. Payam Z. Irani a couple of months ago. My insurance was Anthem Blue Cross, which caused me to leave, and now I am with Alameda Alliance. I saw his name as a provider for Alameda Alliance I was so excited. My first thought was, " he was so smart, he found things that other Optometrist have missed. I just remember his level of knowledge and how he explained to what was going on with my eyes. I also want to add, his prices for glasses are more affordable than Walmart. I priced progressive with transition lenses $310.00 that was with me having my own frames. His price was around $30.00 to $40.00 less. It may not seem like a lot but I am on a fixed income so it was very reasonable and affordable. What is also different you have friendly staff the atmosphere is so much better than other places I have been In and around East Oakland. His office carries various brands and designers of glasses to choose from. The location is public transportation friendly, his office is directly in the Fruitvale Plaza 10 steps away from Fruitvale Bart Station and Fruitvale AC transit transfer point to other buses. The down side is, the parking if you drive, it's on street parking, "but who needs to drive when you can Bart or Bus to his office. His location is near a lot of places you can sit and eat or if you just want to sit and have a cup of coffee. Certain days their is a Farmers Market in the Plaza. Excellent location. I am just happy Dr. Irani is still there after 14 years at this location. I can't express how much anyone would benefit to go to a Optometrist that can explain so you understand, how to care for your eyes and get a pair of glasses that are reasonable and affordable, I am sure he takes other insurances than mentioned above..I Highly Recommend Fruitvale Optometry. VISITORS PARKING) *reimbursement ie; FREE Upon reading the sign in Dr. Irani's office the clerk explained, that the parking is a block away, it cost $7.00 to park, bring the ticket showing you paid the $7.00 to the office appointment, will stamp the ticket, you show the parking attendant you will get your money back. Their is a 90 minute time limit, which makes sense to ensure no abuse of parking. I did pick up my glasses mentioned Above today..(see pictures) Bi FOCAL Progressives with Transitional lenses. (my own frames) ULTRA CLARITY lens CLEANER refill pack 1. 6oz BOTTLE & 1. 1oz SPRAY BOTTLE is a BARGIN. $8.00 Similar item on Ebay, the average price is around $11.00 for the refill pack of two bottles. The dollar store sells a cheap lens cleaner which is not good for prescription glasses. You can't beat this price. I am very happy with the glasses and the information I was able to find out. P.S. Been with this office for several years now. Jailene has made every visit smooth and accommodating. Only 2 incidents where the customer was off. Someone misplaced my order and they had to find the glasses. Jailene saved the day and fixed everything. She also helped us fix a prescription. Hello all Yelp community! Im Francisco E. And Im here with my dad picking up some glasses and a prescription that he is being out for sometime now! The owner (doctor) that is sitting down on the employee picture is what Im writing about! Everything was great the rest of the personal was greeting and attentive and my dad went to get examined by this Doctor all good but when my dad came out to see the Doctor I tried to change the Pharmacy where he have sent the prescription to, I asked the Doctor kindly if he was able to change it to a different one, he then said "no" its sent to CVS already! Then I asked again, he was no I just spend 10min sending it there ( lie he wasnt even with my dad 5minutes) then I told him please we can wait whatever necessary to chenge ot for us, he was well why dont you send it yourself! I asked him how would I do that with no response! I said we will wait for you to change it! Then He said well you will have to wait for a long time and walked in his consultation office! I was wow what a condensending and big of an attitude like if he was mad that my dad wasnt eblebto speak english and he barely was able to communicate with his bad spanish to him! The doctor never introduced himself. He did not test the outcome of his guesses. The prescription is worse than the original. I asked to have a fitting for contacts on the sheet explaining what is desired. Nothing came of it. Glasses from years past are clearer than the "new prescription. I will never go. Okay !! Let me start off by saying I have never had a experience like I did today over the phone . I called to reschedule an appointment I had about 1 weeks ago when I called to cancel my appointment it was on a Sunday I left a voicemail and the operators said that they would be returning my call when the office opens on opens hours. I called again on that Monday and still no answer. I called today to make an appointment and they told me they had a waiting list they had no appointments available. I let the woman " receptionist" know I had been calling and haven't been able to reach anyone or nobody ever returned my voicemail to reschedule my appointment . I didn't get the young lady name I spoke to but I'll will definitely be calling corporate she was very disrespectful and being very sarcastic and told me that why would they call me that's not there job it's my responsibility I was explaining that I wasn't able to reach nobody she just keep telling me it's not there responsibility and why would I think they would reach out to me that's there job . I've been coming to Fruitvale Optometry for 17 years. Having grown up with this doctor, he always checks up with me before the tests and knows what to look out for. Their attention to detail is meticulous. Never had a problem with them until this year. There was a lab error and my prescription was mixed up. The doctor immediately rushed the order on my glasses and all was right. I trust no one else with my eye health! The staff here is professional, well trained, and always looking out for the customer. Trying to be all clever and thrifty, I got an exam here but bought glasses online. The exam was efficient but thorough and I felt very well taken care of. Doctor seemed genuinely interested in my previous optometry history, my current vision needs for work and play, and just giving me a positive experience. Of course, I messed up my online order and received cheap glasses that gave me a perpetual headache. I e-mailed Fruitvale Optometry, was invited in for a free follow-up, and got my prescription right this time. I doubt they can guarantee it, but I went in on a Friday and the glasses were ready Monday. Basically, I got what I needed in spite of my own poor decisions, and was never chided or treated coldly in spite of having obviously taken my business elsewhere first.
