Fried chicken was crispy on outside and juicy meat just like I remember. The fritters did not disappoint, sweet, sugary and savory. Mmmmmm nice and hot food. Based on food, that 2-star above would be a "4". It's a family-run establishment, and therein lies the reason for the 2-star mark. They have rules. Oboy, do they have rules. When you order the chicken, they bring it out "family style", and only the folks who order the chicken can sup from the bowls. They put out relishes and yummy corn fritters, but don't think you're going to get to take them along in the doggie bag. You can rent a seat for $10.41, if you don't order a full dinner; and your kids can rent their seats for $5.20, if THEY don't order a dinner. There's a "Lettuce salad" for $8.63, but only at that price if you order WITHOUT croutons. Apparently the WFF folks didn't swing when the crouton futures were favorable. For the record, "croutons" are nowhere on the menu...at any price. There was a scowling manager who reminded me of Basil Fawlty (q.v.). It seemed she was annoyed by the customers. Their policy is NO SPLIT CHECKS. That's okay, we have calculators on our fones. We were a party of four, a regular dining quartet, and it is our custom that no one picks up the entire check. Sometimes one or more of us pays cash for their portion and others have a card. We'll say: "charge each card $40, and here's $50 in cash". Round numbers, easy peasy. (which actually results in a bonus for the server 'cos the tip turns out to be greater than normal) We've never encountered a problem at any resto (who accepts credit cards) when it came to giving them payment in this fashion. O, but there was a problem here. One of our 4 didnt have any cash and needed to pay with his card, but was told "No, you can't!" The fellow with the Card was so offended, he said he was going to skip dinner, and just have a Diet Coke. But that would trigger the $10.41 "I ain't eatin'" fee. Well. It stupefies me that ANY establishment would kick back at customers wanting to pay their bill. The waitress was adamant that we could not proffer varied payments for our bill. We asked for a manager, and Ms. Fawlty sidled up to our table. They kept insisting there was "NO SPLIT CHECK", but we weren't ASKING for a split check. The ask was on the SUM TOTAL (with generous tip added). We even made the ask in "round numbers" They didn't have to do any math. I thought I was going to have to pull up an Esperanto translator to get her to understand we weren't asking to SPLIT the check. After some sprightly conversation, the loose wire in the old bag's noggin hit the right contact and then she grokked what we were proposing. I thought I saw sparks coming from her right ear, but it might have been a trick of the light. Luckily, the guy with the card could now eat. The aggregate service was fine, with the above exception, and as I said above, the food IS top-notch. Even beyond Chicken-- the Steak here is very good. My carping here nonetheless, it's a fun place to go, and you are guaranteed a fine feed. But if you're in mixed company, work out who is going to grab the tab before you sit down...

When we entered we were well greeted by two of the staff. Very friendly and professional people. And although the outside of the business is somewhat plain the inside is really nice. Well lit with a nice layout and atmosphere. I nice mural on the wall as well. My wife ordered the 2 pc white chicken and waffle. For some reason they consider a wing as white meat? Anyhow, you get a wing and a huge breast with a waffle. The chicken is fried and the batter has a nice taste to it. The breast was way over cooked and dry however. But overall it was good at a price of $8.99. I had the Spicy Chicken Sandwich. Its served on a regular hamburger bun and the chicken was extremely small. Most of the sandwich was the bun. It was good well and tasted delicious. It comes with a small amount of fries all for $10.99. This item is way over priced and not at all worth the cost. I would value this at $7-$8. Both of our orders were extremely fresh. Cooked to order. It took 30 minutes from order time to get the food which is too long. Neither of us will order these items again but we will return to try other menu items. And the key here is to call in and order ahead.

The place has that classic diner look, a little loud, smells amazing, and everyone seems happy to be there. Including the staff, they were super friendly. I got the fried chicken basket. Half a chicken, four pieces. Looked perfect when it came out.. golden, crispy, hot enough to burn your fingers a little (in a good way). First bite, the crunch hit, then that juicy inside...oh man, that's real fried chicken. Seasoned just right, not salty, not bland, that simple, old-fashioned flavor you can't fake. It's just place that you will find really good chicken. And I'm definitely be coming back for more.

The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and the spice level was just right to give it a kick without overpowering the taste. Every bite felt like a culinary adventure, with the freshness of the ingredients shining through. The sandwiches are awesome and the spice level can be ridiculously hot if you are into that. Finally a place that actually lives up to my hot level... The boba and milk shakes are the bomb as well! Did I mention the waffles? It's made with a funnel cake batter. It's probably one of the best waffles I have ever had. It's a great way to end the meal. I would come for breakfast to have those waffles. The interior of Byrd's has a red & black color scheme and sports-themed graffiti, not terribly different from other chicken places like Dave's or Hangry Joe's. The interior at all of these chicken places is kiddish. There's a decent amount of seating with 8 or so tables. There are also a couple of arcade machines in the back near the washrooms. We ordered a 5-piece chicken finger meal with fries (mild heat), and a chicken sandwich (medium heat). Each one included their signature sauce. There are utensils and ketchup available for self-service. The chicken fingers were cooked well, but with mild seasoning (one level above plain), there wasn't much flavor at all. With the chicken sandwich, there was an okay amount of flavor, but definitely not a flavor bomb. Plus, the chicken piece was noticeably slimmer than Dave's or Hangry Joe's. I would say Dave's is the most flavorful, but Hangry Joe's is pretty good too. Service was friendly and pricing was reasonable, but I don't find Byrd's as flavorful as its competition.
