Beef Brisket Sandwich (sauce on side)
    Teri M.

Thursday night @ 6:15. Pretty busy...most customers waiting for to go orders. Just a few at tables. Girl at the counter who took our order was very pleasant. Ordered a brisket sandwich with the bbq sauce on the side with corn. Hubby had a steak sandwich with fries. It took about 10 minutes to get our food. Both were very good. The brisket needs the sauce on it (had it that way previously) as it was dry, but very generous portion, and super lean. Fries were nice and hot, but it was a pretty small order. Corn was horrible...soggy and cold. Love the bread they use; it doesn't fall apart when you eat your sandwiches. I really like this place.

    "Swangy" slab o' ribs.

Gematos has several great things going for it such as the ribs. They are "fall off the bone" tender and very delicious with their own sweet and tangy ("swangy") sauce. The gyros platter is really enough for 2-3 people and it hits all the correct notes for flavor, visual appeal, and mouth feel. The cucumber sauce is the perfect accompaniment. Do not forget the soda. It has the perfect ratio of soda to syrup and free refills. We ate in and it was a comfortable environment. Recommended.

Unfortunately this is going to be a NOT SO GREAT REVIEW The meal was HORRIBLE I'm still chewing the rib meat two days later . I brought it the cooks attention and I quote " it is what it is" was his response. It's all good .. CHEERS I feel they've gotten used to sub sub par food and are taking advantage of a great address I'm calling Gordon Ramsey to save that place !

Good ribs, lots of food on our plates. One of our party ordered a corn dog and it was ice cold. We informed them and they made a new corn dog with fries so good on them. My wife ordered the gyro and had a difficult time eating it. All in all a decent place for food

I came to Gemato's to get a quick sandwich with Mrs.E, and we have been looking forward to having a bite to eat here for awhile . She ordered the pulled pork sandwich. She enjoyed! I ordered an Italian beef , wow ! Looked and tasted like a chew toy, meat was rubber ... So surprised, maybe I shouldn't have got a beef in a barbecue joint....Seriously dissatisfied

Great Brisket and super friendly staff that is outstanding. Soda-Pop in a can is way over priced but all else is very good.

When it comes to BBQ in the far west of the Fox Valley the pickings are pretty slim so it's been a real comfort to find a place like Gemato's where I can go even though it's a bit of a hike when I get a hankering for some slabs of smoked ribs, tips, jumbo shrimp or even a gyro. Their menu also seems to be the best value for the prices when compared to any other bbq places. Ordered a half slab with a baked potato and cole slaw and that was all cooked well and tasted good. I love their tangy bbq sauce and the way it pairs well with the flavor of their smoked meats. I also ordered a half bbq chicken and it was a little dry but still pretty good still with the sauce. I might order an extra side of sauce if I were to get chicken again just in case. The restaurant has a local fast casual style so I usually just order takeout but the staff is friendly and the interior is always clean so I probably wouldn't mind enjoying my food inside either. I'm fairly certain that if you call directly in when you place your order you can save a little bit on takeout fees so keep that in mind.

Ribs, fries, beans, mac and cheese.

I used to love this place when I was younger. Visited with my mom today and was super disappointed in the quality of the food, taste, and the price. We ordered a half rack (came with fries), baked beans, Mac and cheese and two Diet Coke cans. The ribs were fine, small but juicy. The beans and mac and cheese...... Bean cup was tiny (width of the top of the coke can) and tasted exactly like canned beans from the grocery store and the mac and cheese is 100% without a doubt Kraft Mac and cheese. Super disappointed. $30+ for all.

Scraped 70% of the chicken off that was covered in honey mustard.

Brutal... just spent $38 on a chicken gyro, fries, onion ring, and pulled pork. Then requested side of honey mustard and they ruined the sandwich by adding HM to it. No taiko sauce... wtf? Gross

Food is good, but they need to turn on the air conditioning. Difficult to enjoy eating while sweating.

Gets crowded. The menu features lots of salads and sandwiches like any deli should have really. Basically it has many of the classics. It's one of those places you order at the counter and they bring it out. There's also many of the customers who get takeout. A bad thing is it can take a long time to get anything. Lots of times they're really slow. It's about $10 for a Beyond Burger. This is one of the main vegetarian options. A pretty typical one with the basic toppings but nothing special to be honest. Of course there's lots of paninis filled with meat. There's also the Reuben made with the classic corned beef, or it can be made with pastrami. Also has it available as vegetarian made with mushrooms. The rest of the menu has the typical stuff like chicken salad and egg salad. For sure it's a great place at lunch except for being crowded. It's located on 75th Street at Millbrook. The place is always crowded so most seem to get takeout.

It was a solid 7, which is why I place it at 3.5 stars. I may be being picky here but it just wasn't to the level of "melt-in-your-mouth" pastrami standards for me. Not to say it wasn't good, because it was perfectly fine. In fact, it's better than most of the pastrami sandwiches I tried in Chicagoland. Maybe it's the fact that I had to bring it back to the office to eat it, and half hour had gone by and pastrami weren't as warm and the Jewish rye had become soggy by the time I took the first bite. I mean, it goes without saying that the sandwich would have been 3 times better had I sat down immediately and had it. Again, all things considered, it was a perfectly good sandwich. One interesting thing was that I had never been to an establishment that included a half sour pickle instead of a normal one and gotta say, I was pleasantly surprised. Pickles can be a hit or a miss for me. I like my pickles to be crunch, but some places offer overripened ones that become borderline mushy. Schmaltz's half sour pickle was not overly salty or sour, making it very attractive for me. The more I'm thinking about it, I'm convinced that I'll have to go back and try their #14 Sloppy Paul, which is the corned beef with sauerkraut, which is another favorite of mine. And this time, I'll be sure to dine in and give another review of it to see how much I like them better.

So I'm not sure how busy it can get in there or what it's like yet. There were a few different sandwiches that I was interested in trying but I ordered the regular Pacino. Immediately when I got my order, I could small the deliciousness and truffle right as I was opening it up! I also knew that I wouldn't be able to finish the sandwich in one sitting, but it didn't matter. Haha I took the first bite and all the flavors just hit! I loved everything about it. The mozzarella, truffle pecorino cream, and arugula all went so well together and it was creamy; and then to add the prosciutto for the saltiness. SO GOOD! The bread was more on the crunchy side....still kinda soft but more crunchy. My personal preference is for it to be a little more soft...so it doesn't cut the top of my mouth lol. Will definitely be getting sandwiches from here again! Hopefully, I'll get a chance to go to the actual storefront. But now I know I have a go to spot if I really want a good sandwich!
