I requested there services to help me move from Chicago to Casper , WY. I went with Mayflower and they use Ft. Dearborn. Mayflower somehow seems to have good reviews mostly but my mistake being i didn't look up Ft. Dearborn. Moving is never easy and with me starting a new job in WY where i have to be at work almost 13 hours a day it wasn't easy at all. I planned my whole work / personal life around the delivery window of two weeks that was given me. I lived in an almost empty apartment and making do with things hoping my stuff with arrive any day. My move coordinator Debra C. did a poor at communication. I never received any updates and i was the one constantly reaching out to find where the things are at. Today i emailed D.C. and i was told that my stuff MIGHT BE loaded on a truck on the last day of my delivery window. They have no regard for their customers and do whatever they want. They do NOT care if you are without your home for almost a month as long as they collect their massive bills and are happy. As the review mentions 2.5 weeks in , i am still without my stuff. I have been told that my last day on my DELIVERY window is when the stuff MIGHT BE LOADED. If i could give 5 thumbs down to them i would. THE WORST moving experience for me. I would recommend stay away from this company and i will update my review as things progress. Fort Dearborn Relocation is under the Blackhawk Moving/ Mayflower umbrella. I recently used them to move from Chicago to Las Vegas and I initially went with them as I read many many reviews on all the companies I researched to just pay the extra money and go with Mayflower well I did and was 100% unsatisfied as 70% of my moving boxes were completely crushed, broken, damaged resulting in over $500 worth of damage. My Las Vegas location was not my final destination so my boxes were going to just be in storage for a few months but instead of an easy unload in Vegas I had to spend hours to unpack all boxes, check for damage on my items and then repack into new boxes. The lack of timely communication from the company was a huge inconvenience on their procedure along with overall satisfaction on my end of how they uhandled the final outcome of this matter. I had wasted so much energy and time going back and forth dealing with the result of their carelessness on my personal items. I could have gone with a different company that quoted $1600 to move across country and probably would have been better than the result of Mayflower as it seemed they threw my boxes across country. Nothing special. Just realize that after they have your household goods customer services disappears. The people you are talking to on the phone are just sales people not there to be customer service people helping you with your move....they don't care after they have you. Our person was Debra C. who told us she would contact us with an update two Fridays ago about our goods leaving Illinois didn't contact us. Debra didn't call us the following Monday. So, we called on Tuesday as we drove to Houston our new home. The problem was they were saying our household items might arrive on the 22nd. We couldn't be there until the 23rd. Finally she called...our items hadn't left Illinois. Here it is August 31st. We haven't heard from her and our stuff is due no later than September 3rd. I can track packages through Fed Ex, UPS and the USP but these management people cannot update us either via our email or phone calls. Warning they are not relocation management people they are relocation sales people. Very poor customer service. We don't know if our items even left Illinois yet. Debra C. will not return our calls or email. Sticking with Reebie next time...used them twice and they were great! ****EMAIL UPDATE 2 hours after this post and then a phone call: EMAIL: They (A MOVING COMPANY) cannot find a driver to take our "MOVE" our household from the 3rd largest city in the USA, Chicago, to the 4th largest city in the USA Houston!!!! This company handled my relocation from Illinois to Massachusetts. The service I experienced at the hands of these companies was horrendous and dismal. Their truck showed up with 4 hours delay. The cause of the delay was that the company was short on trailers -- even though the move was scheduled for over a month. The crew sat idle in their office waiting for a leased trailer to be repositioned. During this 4-hour delay, there was scarce information coming to the customer. I had to place numerous calls to find out what was going on. The company had a month to plan and allocate resources for this move. And even when they failed to do so, they did not send a forward crew to begin staging packages and furniture to expedite the loading. And because they used a leased trailer without side doors, loading took even longer. For a job that started late and for a trailer that was not designed for easy loading, the company could have also sent a larger crew. They did not. As a result, a loading that was supposed to have been completed by 5 or 6 PM, lasted until 10:30 PM. The promised delivery day came and by noon there was absolutely no communication from the companies or anyone else about a delivery schedule. Again, only after I made inquiries, I found that there would be an unspecified delay in the delivery. That unspecified delay turned to be one week. During that week the quality of support and communications I received from the company was dismal. Phone calls went unanswered and so did emails. When someone spoke to me on the phone, all that I got was vague promises and feeble excuses. The company had me over a barrel and there was nothing I could do but wait. I moved my entire 3 bedroom house of stuff from Chicago to FL with Mayflower. It went just fine. The estimating process took a bit of negotiating. When they give you a 'fixed price' bid, make sure you have a couple of reliable estimates to bargain with. Don't hesitate to bargain for a better price! At the end of the day, my load was charged as about 10,000 lbs and probably weighed only 9,000. Maybe I overpaid a little, but the service was well worth it. I did the packing myself (tedious) and I know what I'm doing so a total of one wine glass was broken/damaged in the entire move (my fault). The driver/owner of the truck had hand picked the loading/unloading crews and I have never seen men work so hard and so diligently. NOTHING was dented/soiled/damaged in any way. They showed up on time, delivered on time, re-assembled all the stuff they had disassembled, positioned and re-positioned big pieces, and the coordinator called me frequently to confirm details and keep me informed. The crews were pleasant, considerate and very professional. One of the most pleasant moving experiences I've ever had. read more

Ft. Dearborn Relocation Management (a part of Mayflower) recently helped me move from Chicago, IL to Seattle, WA. The move had to happen pretty fast i.e pickup within a week from when we decided on using Mayflower and delivery a week later. The pick ups were from two locations, one a high rise and second a storage unit. Ft. Dearborn made the entire move process absolutely painless. Starting with the sales process, the sales person Carl Dombrowski is as knowledgeable as they come. He knows the move logistics inside out and clearly he made every effort to understand our move needs prior to suggesting the appropriate options. Debra Copeland was our move coordinator and she kept us informed throughout on the progress of the shipment. This included follow-up right after the goods were delivered. The pick up crew of Pedro, Drew and Scott were absolutely fabulous and efficient. They moved my entire apartment including packing a few high value items within 3hrs! The driver Sean Berry kept in touch with us as he progressed in his route. His professionalism and flexibility to accommodate delivery times helped us immensely. Moving sucks, but moving with Mayflower (which uses Ft Dearborn) made it easier. They were professional in the sales/consultation, pickup, moving communication, and delivery. A few things were broken in the move (nothing incredibly serious) and it's taken a bit of time to get the repairs taken care of but all in all its been a pretty great experience. read more

My experience with Fort Dearborn, Black Hawk Movers, and Mayflower was phenomenal. The movers came on time and the entire move was organized. Debra was the lead person over the move after booking it with Carl. She was great. She was very patient and knowledgeable as I was nervous about moving my things from Illinois to New York. From my experience, people who had issues may not have organized their move very well. I did a partial pack and I had everything packed, labeled, and ready to go. When my items arrived in New York, the movers were patient as we marked off each item. They set everything up that was broken down in Illinois. Out of my 146 pieces, three things were broken and they were all small things. I even received a refund in the mail because my weight was way under the estimate. Moving is an emotional task, but Fort Dearborn made it easy for me. 10 stars!!!! read more

Our movers just finished packing and loading our 3 bedroom home. They were a little early, which was great. The crew was large enough to do a full pack and load in a few hours. They would have loaded faster, but someone didn't mind the "no parking - tow zone" we put up, and caused a huge headache for the movers. Despite the headache caused by a typical Chicagoan, the movers managed to work around it and get everything loaded. The crew was courteous, efficient, and managed to move us out without putting holes in walls or scratching floors. The whole communication process has been good. Calls checking and and keeping me updated through the process. So far no complaints. Let's just see how the long distance delivery works now. read more

I don't have a whole lot of experience with the people in the office (on the business side of things), but one of their drivers, Ken V., was our mover via Blackhawk Moving, and he and his crew were really terrific, and they all went above and beyond to make sure our move went as smoothly as possible. Worst move experience in my life. I have moved multiple times in my life, including moving to different states but this one was BY FAR the worst. The move was from a condo in Chicago to a home in California. I stressed multiple times to multiple people that the condo had a freight elevator across the hall from my condo and their truck would be parked in the loading dock. Each move is only allowed a 4 hour time slot. They used 6 hours for the move. Interesting that it only took 1 1/2 hrs to move in with a different moving company. We were lucky that no one was scheduled to use the elevator after me and the manager allowed the additional time. This could have been a huge problem if we would have had to leave the elevator and loading dock. Perhaps they should have sent an additional person/persons to load. They knew how many boxes and pieces of furniture a month in advance. The worst part was having many items damaged. I have never had this happen before and sent in the required forms. Each item needed to be itemized and a receipt of the item purchased as proof of cost. How many people have a receipt of every item you own and are moving? Anything that didn't have a receipt was given a credit greatly less than I paid for the item. This was replacement cost insurance? They sent an assessor to take pictures of each damage item (including the packaging it was moved in). Two nightstands were broken and repaired. A DVD rack was damaged beyond repair. The gouge in the china cabinet was repaired. My sofa and chair were very dirty after the move. They sent someone to professionally clean them. It is better but still not clean. The cleaner said they thought it was in a wet area as the bottom of the cushions had stains that had bled up from the base that was a different color. I am no longer able to flip the cushion either and put the "dirty" side down to solve the problem of not being able to fully clean it. There are also stains on the wooden legs/feet of the sofa. Just where were my belongings? It wasn't raining when items were loaded or unloaded. The grandfather clock (which I paid extra to have their hired professionals special crate and uncrate it) no longer ran when it was uncrated in California. After 4 months of waiting for a call to fix it, I was told they weren't doing anything because it wasn't running when crated. So they didn't have proof it worked. It wasn't running because it runs for 7 days on a wind and I drove my car and pets from Chicago to California and flew back to Chicago to meet the movers. It had just run out. Their "professionals" never tried to start it or ask why it wasn't running. If it wasn't working, why would I spend extra money to crate, uncrate and move it 2100 miles. I have now hired someone and spent hundreds of dollars to fix it. It was full of grit inside and out. It was cleaned and now works. Must have been located next to my dirty sofa and chair. There were two boxes damaged and the items in there also broken. Accidents happen and items are broken which happens at times but it was horrible trying to work with them to have things fixed or reimbursed for items that can't be fixed. I filled out the paperwork, then waited for their assessor to take pictures of the items and the packaging that was damaged. There were multiple emails, phone calls, they would fix one item at a time and then not fix the grandfather clock or even have someone look at it. This was drawn out for many months. Was this to just get me to finally settle? Well I finally did and received my check for $154. Definitely not anywhere close to the value of the items lost. Not to mention my time involved and all the hassle trying to resolve this issue. Horrible customer service. I will never be using this company again. read more

Mayflower Transit was a life saver for us as we had a 3 bedrm, 2 1/2 bath, lvng rm, dining rm, full basement & 2 car garage move to another state. We were pkt & in 3 1/2 hrs the movers had the truck loaded & on it's way to our new destination. We left the following day & met them the next day at a storage facility we were going to store our belongings at. The gate at the storage wouldn't open & the driver Jeff & his movers patiently waited in the freezing cold w/ us for the problem to be solved. They unloaded our stuff w/in 2 & 1/2 hrs of being able to finally get in to our unit. From Bo, the sales rep,to Sally, the move coordinator, to Jeff, the driver & last but not least, both sets of moving guys, we couldn't ask for a better group of people to help us through a VERY STRESSFUL move! The whole Mayflower team, from estimate, loading, office personal, driver, and unloading was excellent. Communication during the whole process kept us informed and helped with the process of moving for the first time in 35 years. The care given by our driver was outstanding. Brian (sales/estimate) was extremely professional. Debra, at the office kept us informed (our delivery was delayed due to an illness), and, most importantly, our driver, Alphone, were wonderful. We moved from our townhome in Illinois and our second home in Wisconsin to Breckenridge, CO at the middle of November. Carl D., our sales person was very professional and knowledgeable. We thought it would be hard to coordinate 2 moves but it was relatively simple. We had to store our things in Denver for about 10 days which added to the cost (total of $11,000). The movers in Illinois took great care in loading our things. In Breckenridge, we live on a steep hill, it was snowing and we advised the movers who were from Colorado Springs to put chains on the truck. They did not, they could not get up our hill and actually went into a ditch and almost tipped the truck over. They had to come back the next day with chains and 2 trucks. The movers themselves worked very hard. It is 3 level home at 10,600 feet above sea level. Several of our furniture pieces were damaged along with several wine glasses and an antique bowl. We filed a claim for the damages on 12/30/15. It took over 6 weeks for an inspector to come out, he looked over the furniture but not the other things. We did receive a check for less than the estimated damages, when we sent a rebuttal it took almost a month for a reply and we were told they would give us $50 as a "courtesy" or we could go to arbitration. We moved 11/14/15. It is now 4/26/16. We gave up. The person we dealt with, Jennifer Engles, was indifferent and lacked any kind of customer service skills. We will never use this company again. read more
