Talked to various movers. Some were priced off the charts. Some could not confirm availability for my move date. Some just very generic and did not listen to my needs and schedule. Darren and Peter and the whole staff at Murphy Family Movers were AMAZING. Darren and Peter showed up even before their ETA and got to work immediately. They were so helpful, quick and efficient. they came prepared with extra boxes, moving cloths for fragile items, tools to disassemble and reassemble they had it all. I isn't know what to do because they had everything handled haha. When they got me moved out of my place they also helped me decide on where I wanted my furniture in my new place. They were meticulous and made sure everything was just the way I needed/wanted before leaving both locations. Not only all of that but there was a small mix up with payment at the end and they were SO QUICK to adjust it and make everything right. Literally not even 5 min after the movers left Jack had everything straightened out via payment and I'm very VERY happy with my experience with MFM. I very rarely leave five star reviews and even more rarely do I leave a comment. The Murphys have something truly special. They treat their customers and partners they bring in or employees (not sure which) with respect and kindness and are extremely dedicated and experienced with what they do. I've moved many times in life and only one other time have I encountered movers who even came close to the calibre of service I got with Jack. And they didn't come close to the price nor were they capable of moving across the country as Murphy Family Movers was. Should I have the misfortune to move again, and if they expand their operations to my area, I can't imagine hiring another company for the job. They were very careful with all the items and were thoughtful and patient when it came time to figuring out where to put everything once we arrived at our final location. DANGER do a quote somewhere else and you will get a MUCH lower quote then these LIARS and CHEATS. Use these movers at your own RISK! I used "We'll Move You for Less" for a very low quote of $500-950, and even Falcon Movers at a little over $1,000. MOST other movers quoted around 500-1,000 because it's a move FOR ONE PERSON! I really have much less than most people because I don't like buying clothes and things. 1 bed, a few bookcases, a dining table, a few TVs. Not even a couch! I was quoted around $3,000 for a move by Murphy's more than THREE TIMES other movers are quoting. And this is a move for ONE person's things!!!!! When the quote was sent it was like everything plus the kitchen sink were on there to tack on as much money as possible saying it'd take 5 men 10 hours for a move that in all reality is just ONE person's stuff. This was our family's first time using professional movers, which made us a little nervous, but everything went smoothly and the price was competitive with other movers we contacted. There was great communication from the start, the movers were on time, and they were very courteous and professional. They wrapped the furniture/items that needed wrapping, packed the truck like it was an artform, and did a walkthrough to make sure they had everything. Everything was conveniently stored overnight for a reasonable price because we had to wait a day before we could move into our new home. For unloading, the movers asked lots of questions about where everything needed to go and made sure the furniture was set up exactly where we wanted it. Short Version: Go here first. Murphy Family Movers are a very fair and quality company. The owner - Jack - is quick, reasonable, and respectable. Long Version: From the beginning, I was highly impressed with Jack Murphy's responsiveness throughout the entire moving process. He doesn't just give you the feel that he's there, but you actually receive the support. Starting at the "Request a Quote", Jack immediately responded with their availability, costs, and asked what we were moving. FYI - No matter the situation, Murphy Movers will not price gauge and there's no hidden fees. After talking, texting, and yelping back and forth, we set a day, time, and movers in less than 10 minutes. He checked in, confirmed, and even followed up before the time of the move. For a company I had overlooked the first two times, I didn't feel any less important. Well guess what? They arrived on-time and were extremely courteous. My fiancé was there for the whole thing while I was traveling and she couldn't personally say a negative thing about the movers. Her words were "They were nice and never disrespectful." Those words were extremely important to me while I was in another state. She was safe, the movers made her feel safe, and they were good people. They were moving heavy stuff too; it was all the things that myself (an ex-mover, landscaper, farmer) couldn't do with his father (ex-construction worker, landscaper, farmer). Needless to say they were big, clumsy, and heavy pieces of work. The Murphy team was pushing 2 1/2hrs of moving exceptionally heavy stuff that I didn't want to do at all. In the process, there was a some damage of one of goods, but Jack personally came out to remedy the situation. He shook my hand, assured it would be fixed, and brought everything back better than expected. I don't know about you all, but that goes a hell of a long way with me. Chicagoland is full of crooks, but not Jack nor his company. I'll trust Murphy Family to move my things again for sure. All-in-all, I was completely satisfied with their work and service. The only regret I had was not moving with Murphy Family Movers initially. I went to two other moving companies priced between 60-70$ an hour; the first company delayed all day then cancelled and the second brought wet pads without any shrink wrap. I've also moved states multiple times, and those companies destroyed hundreds of dollars worth of property without offering any assistance or remedy. Had I went to Jack/Murphy Family Movers first, I would have spared myself the horrors of using mountebank and cheap competitors. I moved quite a few times in my life and I learned it's best to pay for professional movers instead of recruiting family and friends for this type of work. Professional prompt perfectionists is how I'd describe this company and their workers. I had nearly everything packed and ready to go. The movers came in and wrapped everything as an additional level of protection for my items. The movers also securely packaged flat screen TVs and mirrors for me. These guys are the hardest working movers I've seen. It took a little longer than they anticipated (which I wasn't surprised by, we have a lot of stuff), but they were careful with our furniture and with putting our stuff in the right rooms. The house we moved into is old and has some twists and turns, but they got everything where it was supposed to go (including carrying a 300-lb dresser up the stairs). The only problem was that they only take cash or check, which was a surprise at the end of the day. I had a crazy situation happen where one of our baby cockatiels flew onto the upper cabinets above our refrigerator and fell behind a finishing piece between the wall and refrigerator. He was trapped there for 7 hours total. Jack dispatched a crew - Miguel and Ismael - who skillfully pulled out the refrigerator so my grandson could rescue his beloved pet. Previous review was a bit confusing and I should have waited till the movers left to post the review but I was extremely upset regarding the additional costs associated with one of movers losing his wallet and the crew of 4 all went back to find it while I was being charged. The mover found the wallet in the truck in his jacket. The part that was confusing is the poor packing resulted in items found on the ground and still haven't located the keys to the Grandfather Clock. Not happy. BACKGROUND-- 2 days before my "window" to move out of Chicago, I got a call from American Van Lines that I was going to be "rebooked" with one of their partners... a very low rated moving company. I thought I was booking with a carrier when I booked with American Van Lines, but turns out that they're one of the nation's largest brokers. (If you don't know the difference between carriers and brokers, I would recommend you do a little research.) With this bait-and-switch tactic from American Van Lines, I was extremely unhappy and also stressed because I was supposed to move out of the house in the next few days!! I ended up sticking with Yelp to find highly-rated carriers and actual moving companies, and I reached out to Jack Murphy and asked for his help. MOVING DAY -- And he delivered. He sent me 3 awesome movers: Shane, Eugene, and Eric to pick up all my stuff (the very next day) for my interstate move to North Caroline. Shane and Eugene then drove the truck to my destination in NC and dropped off my household goods in 2 days. Amazing. Eric did a tremendous job custom packing some of my delicate stuff (picture frames, TV, mirrors). I tried to get the street open in front of my place but my neighbor apparently forgot, so the truck was parked further than desired. Regardless, the guys were great and packed all my boxes without a complaint. They were super solid and my wife and I were really happy with the move. Now, I did move into a storage unit so I won't be seeing my stuff for the next 6 months or so. I filled out THREE of their forms requesting a quote. No reply. I called the phone listed and heard a short rude message "saying don't leave a message fill out form". I already filled out 3. The truck fee was $350. Twice what two other places wanted. Only 3 movers when I requested 4. No personal phone conversation at all. They dropped the ball without even getting the job. First impressions are VERY IMPORTANT!! Next thing I get the owner of the company calling me telling me he is sick. He wants me to remove my review. My review is honest and exactly what happen. My movers were Foreman Demetric, Joe, Jose and Francisco. I explained to Jack Murphy (the owner) that I was moving out of my current residence to escape the physically abusive relationship I was in. And, if needed, i'd be okay with giving him the contact information of the police officers and detective that were helping me. The moving team packed up my belongings as I had requested. During the process they broke a few things, which can only be expected. After all that, they delivered stuff needing to go to my storage unit but delivering it to my mom's place and vice versa. I was amazed when they said they had a crew free and could come to my house within the hour, which is basically unheard of and worked out perfectly. They sent three men at a very reasonable price and the guys were fantastic. I recently moved from Illinois to Arizona. I used U-Pack (ABF freight) trailer and needed it packed with a houseful of furniture plus extra. I called Murphy Family movers, their customer service was quick and friendly and they showed up on time for the big move. What I thought would be a 3-4 hour job, ended up being 6. These guys were GREAT! They carefully wrapped and packed the trailer full! I was so worried that when I would get to Arizona something would of broken because the trailer was pack so full. We even were able to add an extra stop at the storage unit as well with no problem! The movers arrived on time and were polite, funny, and just all around great guys. After discussing one issue I had regarding the time the movers took with the owner, he understood where I was coming from and actually issued me a refund for one hour of labor. I recently used the "Request a Quote" feature on Yelp to plan for a recent move. I came across Murphy Family Movers when I was requesting a quote with a different moving company (there is a feature that suggests other businesses to send the same information/request a quote). I was quite impressed with their phenomenal reviews. I sent the request on a weekday evening (after 7pm) and received a super fast and friendly reply from Veronica. My initial quote was for a 2 hour move, but later, via email, I was sent a range of times and the expected cost (i.e. a move up to 4 hours was $, and every hour after that was $100). Their highest estimate was HUNDREDS ($400+) of dollars LOWER than the estimate I was given by the other company. Given their reviews and very fair cost, I booked with Murphy Family Movers. They did not require a deposit, which was another shocker. If paying by credit card, there is an additional 5% fee, which is reasonable. I made sure I had plenty of cash. The move itself went well. My movers arrived on time and worked steadily the entire time. I've accumulated a lot of stuff, and they worked it into their truck Tetris-style. It was actually quite impressive! Additionally, they were easy to talk to. I had intended to treat them to lunch, but they took their own lunch break en route to my new location and called (after they left) to inform me when they'd arrive. The day of the move there were two downpours, which they got caught in. I felt so bad that they got soaked and I had no idea where my towels were! One of my movers also apparently became ill from his lunch, but he trudged through. After the move and while unpacking, I did notice a few issues. I contacted the company and spoke with Jack Murphy. We had a conversation and he quickly tried to remedy the issues. I appreciate his responsiveness! I am only planning on staying at my current place temporarily, and would definitely use Murphy Family Movers again for another future move! read more

For the most part the movers were good. They took care of my stuff and worked hard. The only complaint I have with them is on two occasions they dropped things, one a kitchen aid mixer dropped from about 8 feet. They didn't inform me of it...I had to hear it from another room and investigated on the sly. Luckily neither item broke. The issue I have is with the owner. The project was underscoped leading the movers to get burnt out for the unload. Unloading took longer than loading (previous movers who put us in the storage unit took 1 hour, these guys took 5.5) and I carried most of the boxes. Due to their burnout, I even told them to assemble the bare minimum (each guy spent a half hour assembling...and I helped there too). While I take partial responsibility for underscoping, I gave the owner 3 parameters to scope. He simply responded asking for the size of the storage unit, which I was mistaken on (the storage facility gave us a bigger unit than we ordered and I didn't know it). In overhearing the movers talking, they had the same issue (project was underscoped) the day before. When I emailed the owner with my concerns (specifying I wasn't looking for compensation nor was I intending to post a review) he responded with a jerk remark putting the full blame back on me (I admittedly then responded in kind with a jerk remark). In reviewing the yelp complaints, it's obvious the owner's philosophy is he's always right. The quality of a business isn't measured by how they behave when things go right...even the worst businesses get things right 60% of the time...it's how they behave when things go wrong. After posting a review to Google, the owner left an abusive voicemail, reported me to my employer's HR department and doxxed me in his response, including my personal address and employment information. read more
