"CELEBRATING ST. PATRICK'S DAY OUR WAY" Yesterday was St Patrick's Day, you know, the day everyone thinks they are green and goes out to drink Green Beer. Well, my Lovely Green Wife and I also went out to drink Green Beer. Now remember what I have always said; "Green is good for you". So, that means that Green Beer is also good for you. We both are decked out in our Green and off we went. Well, it not only happens to be St. Patrick's Day, but in San Angelo they are having a Pub & Grub Crawl with 15 different places to crawl too on the map that we have. We can do that - so off we went. We parked right in the middle of where they show five locations. We started our crawling and guess what, we only see three locations here. Two of the five are empty buildings. Anyway, we crawled across the street and enjoyed a couple of Green Beers before having dinner. We walked down the street to get something to eat. No sense in crawling anymore, we didn't want to look stupid. On the corner is Fuentes Cafe Downtown for our early dinner. It's just before 4pm and this place has a lot of people here. I bet they thought it was the Pub & Grub Crawl and found out it was the day before - but who would do a thing like that. We were shown to a table and our Server, Darla, took our drink order. Two Green Beers to start. We looked over the menu while our Green Beers are being poured. Darla returned with their Warm Chips and Red Spicy Sauce for you to enjoy. We have been here before and we loved those chips and sauce. The Chips are thin and crispy and that sauce is just-right spicy. Our Green Beers arrived and they are a nice color of green, these really must be good for you. MMmmmmmmmm greenlyliciousness. Now it's time to order. My Wife is going with their "Guiso Burrito"; Large Warm Flour Tortilla stuffed with Guiso Stew Meat simmered in a seasoned sauce. Requested the burrito to be no topping of sauce. I am having "Grilled Fish Tacos" (three); Each has a strip of Grilled Fish Fillet, placed in soft Corn Tortilla with Guacamole, Cabbage & Pico de Gallo. Served with Rice & Refried Beans. While we waited we enjoying those Chips, Sauce and those Cold Green Beers. Soon our food arrived and my Wife's Guiso Burrito is Huge, with Mighty-Meaty-Chucks of Stew Meat inside. The presentation of my Fish Tacos is very impressive. They are all three stuffed to the top, with Pico de Gallo & Guac on a separate plate. Each taco also has it's own Lime Wedge and I squeezed them all dry on each taco, and topped them off even more with the Pico & Guac. The flavor of each one was Tacolicious with the fish being perfectly grilled. These are really, really gooooood. The Rice and Refried Beans were also very fresh and flavorful. I Love Tacos and these were the right choice for me. My Wife LoVeD her Guiso Burrito and said the meat was very Tendertastylicious and loving that sauce. She let me have a couple of bites and I totally agree, this was some good stuff. Fuentes Cafe Downtown was the right choice for us for our Grub and we didn't have to crawl here to enjoy some Mighty-Meaty chunks of Guiso Stew Meat and those Fresh Fish Tacos. Darla earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for going 'above-n-beyond' the norm. She also wanted Nancy in the picture I took, so we obliged. When we left, we walked to our truck, not going to crawl when we don't have to. Just for the record, the map I copied does show 15 places for the Pub & Grub Crawl but two of those five shown on this street are permanently closed. So, it wasn't my fault, but one day I will learn how to read the small fine print showing the actual date. But on my behalf, in my youth I could of crawled to all fifteen locations, but I'm glad it was only one we crawled into. This was a very fun outing that we both enjoyed celebrating St. Patrick's Day. Love You Baby, Bunches & Pub&GrubMunches.

    Another first visit.

Ties for top spot to go have Mexican in town. I got different dishes here so can't compare directly with the other spot I've been to so far. This place in on the same block I live so getting there is no issue at all. John the owner is awesome. Way cool family story of his business now on 36 years strong. The food is delicious, the plomar cocktail is solid and the salsa is super fresh and flavorful. The beef casavala and the steak al a Mexicana dishes are both big winners in my book. Get them if your lost in what to order and you won't be let down. John walks around the place speaking to all his regular patrons and they all know who he is clearly. So neat to see a place that has such a close loyalty to its owner and the owner to its customers.

This restaurant knows how to treat their customers. Seated me without any wait. My drink order was taken promptly. Chips and a mildly smoky spicy salsa brought to the table. When the waitress came back to take my order, she clarified that enchiladas had ground beef, and told me about the specials when she first handed me the menus. I ordered the tortilla soup, kinda a always have to try a small cup of this if done well this soup is great, it was great. The meal also came with salad or coleslaw. The enchiladas had a choice of 3 sauces I chose the chili sauce. The food had great flavor, served hot and delicious. The beans and rice tasted like a home cooked meal. It was super home cooked meal type of experience. The owner Mr. Fuentes was here and he was asking everyone how there meals were shaking there hands and getting there name and where they were from. I hardly ever see this in restaurants, it makes such a huge difference on me wanting to come back to a place. They make a connection with there customers. The service was great. The food was enough for 2 people, so come hungry. Don't fill up on chips. Thanks for a great food experience. I hope to come back before a leave San Angelo.

Tenders a la Mexicana! side of quest.

As some may know I only review the top and the bottom of the list. Fuentes is by far the top of San Angelo. I as usual at at the bar. By far the best food in 3 weeks eating in town. Carah was great. Everyone was wearing masks. Owner ( John Fuentes) was at the door greeting everyone with his mask on. 36 years in the family deserves everyone to ask why and how. Incredible food, awesome service, sexy atmosphere. make the trip from hotel row.... it's worth it

Love the vibe, live the cheese enchiladas, crispy tacos, margaritas & salsa, some spicy shrimp dish.... Great spot for a date night, or to watch a game at their bar.

Now I can see why that is. My wife and I came in on a Wednesday night about 530 for the first time. It was not super busy at all and we got seated fast. Orders were taken quickly as well. I got the famous original steak bites with a choice side salad. Wife got the daily special Guiso plate with refried beans and Mexican rice and homemade flour tortillas. The meal also came with a complementary plate of refried beans and red and green salsa (with a kick) and chips. It didn't take long for the plates to come out and my were the portions generous! My steak tips were fantastic. A perfect medium and very well seasoned! Melt in your mouth tender! My wife thoroughly enjoyed her Guiso and the super tender diced beef in a rich brown gravy. Laura the GM was very kind to us and gave us a little background on the business with it being our first time there. 16 years in business! I see why that's so! I'm coming back again soon to try the same plate I got but 'El Paisano' style with added grilled onions, peppers, and tomatoes.

On Thursday's, Henry's has their Steak Specials running from 11 am until 5 pm, so Steak for lunch sounds like a winner for us. When we arrived, I wasn't really surprised that there are a lot of cars/trucks in the parking lot. Walked in, was greeted by the Hostess, and shown to a table in the Main Dining area. Right away, the Chips & Salsa Lady came by with their Red Salsa, Bean Dip topped with Gravy, and those Fresh Warm Chips for us to enjoy. Right after that, our Server, Monica, stopped by and took our drink order while we looked over the menu, mainly their Thursday Steak Specials. Those Chips and Salsa, which is on the Hot side, are delicious, but I tend to lean toward the Bean Dip topped with Gravy. That is some really good stuff. When Monica returned with our drinks, we placed our order. Joe is having the "KC Steak"; About 16 ounces of Hand Cut Sirloin, requested medium. Served with Baked Potato or French Fries, chose French Fries. Served with Frijoles Borracho's and a Salad. Nancy is having the same thing, but medium rare. I am going with the "Henry's New York Strip Steak"; About 14 ounces. Chose French Fries over the Baked Potato. Served with Frijoles Borracho's and a Salad. All Steaks are tenderized by the In-House-Butcher and seasoned accordingly. Traditional Kansas City-style Steaks are typically seasoned with a blend of Coarse Garlic Salt, Pepper, Coriander, and Chili Peppers. Henry's has other Steaks on their Thursday Specials; Besides the two kinds we ordered, they have "Spanish Steak"; About 14 ounces, with the same sides. The "Chicken Fried Steak"; Their CFS sits in a Cheese-Gravy and is one of the Best CFS's around. And they have the standard "Hamburger Steak"; topped with Brown Gravy & Onions. Right after Monica took our food order, she returned and with Fresh Warm Chips and more of the Red 'Hot' Salsa. That stuff warms you up from the inside out and is very tasty. We enjoyed those Chips and Dips, and then our Salads came out. I topped mine off with their Vinaigrette Dressing, my Wife chose Thousand Island, and I think Joe went with Ranch. Right after we finished the Delicious, Crisp and Flavorful Salads, our Steaks arrived. Henry's has always been pretty quick in serving their food, and the presentation is Spot-On. No matter what plate you order, it's always going to be a Beautiful Presentation. All three of our Steaks are glistening, and the aroma makes your tummy smile. We all three cut into our Steaks and they are Right-On, just the way they should be. I have had the KC Steak before, and it was Very Tastylicious, and that's what my Wife said about hers. Very Tender with lots of Flavor in every bite. Joe loved his also and ate all of it. My Wife didn't eat all of hers because, as she says, she isn't tall enough. I ate all of mine because I am tall enough. It was also Very Flavorful, Tenderlicious and just down-right great. Their Steaks cut very easy with a knife - it just falls through the Deliciousness with ease. Normally, a New York Strip Steak is seasoned by being patted dry, then liberally coated on all sides with kosher salt and black pepper. Some methods involve dry-brining for several hours, while others apply a simple mix of salt, pepper, and garlic powder just before cooking. Don't know if Henry's does theirs this way, but I do know that it's Awesomely Flavored. French Fries are pretty good, and I ate all of mine, but don't tell my Doctor. I'm not suppose to have this much Steak and Potatoes, and I've done this a couple times this week. So - Shhhhhhhhhhhh. No wonder their Frijoles Borracho's are Very Tasty. The Frijoles Borracho's (Drunken Beans) are a classic dish featuring Pinto Beans slow-simmered with Beer, Bacon, and aromatic Vegetables. Other key ingredients are Bacon rendered fat, Garlic, Jalapenos, Tomatoes, Cilantro, and dark Mexican Beer. All of that in a bowl for your enjoyment. And believe me, you will enjoy these. Monica earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for going 'above-n-beyond' the norm. She checked on us at just the right times and was very pleasant to talk to. She also described how the Steaks were seasoned, prepared, and that the KC Steak is her favorite. She is Awesome. When we left, Henry's was pretty busy, as expected. Maybe they all came for the Steaks. On the way home, we enjoyed another Beautiful San Angelo Afternoon.

I didn't know your town, I drove around looking for Mexican food that could compare to California, until I found this hidden gem. First and foremost the customer service is something I've never experienced in my 42 years of life. As soon as you walked through the door, Brian, greeted me and from that second made me feel like long lost family. Very welcoming. It was a Sunday morning and he asked where I was from, I explained from where and why I was in town. Brian genuinely listened and he offered his prayers. You don't get this kind of service anywhere in California. It's true,Texas, people are so much nicer and hospitality really is something to be admired. I went to pay and Brian stunned me, when he wouldn't take my money and told me that I had bigger things to worry about than paying for my breakfast. After listening to me vent and pray for me and wouldn't take my money. This man really is a good human being. I'm telling you, shocked doesn't explain the feeling at that moment. I watched him interact with other customers and he was the same way being personable. Now the food could have been terrible and I would have still gave a good review just on customer service LOL, but seriously the Menudo was amazing, the broth , patas , homney, tripe and all. "TASTY DELICIOUS MEXICAN RESTAURANT"…read more Yesterday my Wife prepared a Salad for 20 people and we dropped it off right around Dinner time, so, since we are out and about we decided to go out to eat at a place that was recommended to us that we have never been - and it's right up the street from where we dropped off the Salad. Well, kind of up the street, but it's close enough. Arrived at "Jalapenos Locos" at around 6:30pm or so, a half hour before Happy Hour ends. The place is beautifully decorated and packed but there is a booth open for us. The Chips and Salsa girl was right there for us to start enjoying what is a staple at every Mexican Restaurant. Right behind her was our Server, Dina. We inquired about their Margaritas and ordered two Frozen Margaritas. Dina also explained what their Specials of the Day are, the Fried Catfish and the Combination Dinner. Both sounded just like what we wanted to order. My Lovely Wife is having their "Fried Fish Friday Special"; Hand Breaded Fish with house made Tartar Sauce & Two Lemon Wedges, served with Crispy Golden Brown French Fries. I am having the "Friday Special Combination Plate"; Two Crunchy Beef Tacos with Lettuce & Tomato, Two Chicken Enchiladas (choice) covered in a Sour Cream Cheesy Sauce, served with Refried Beans & Rice. Orders are complete. Now for those Chips & Salsa. The Chips are served warm, crunch and a nice flavor. The Salsa is also served warm and it has a very fresh peppery flavor, one of the Best I have ever had with just the right amount of Spiciness. Soon our Frozen Margaritas arrived and we love the glasses. These are so 'thick' that my Wife started eating hers with a fork. I'm using the straw and it is holding up fine, but stirring helps. They are some of the Best Tasting Margaritas Ever - deliciousness at it's finest. Jalapenos Locos consist of two rooms, one side with dining room tables and booths, the other side is the large Bar with dining room tables, and both sides are filled with people waiting to take over any empty table/booth. Dina stopped by and we chatted for a while and she pointed out to the gentleman and lady at the booth next to us, it's the Owner, Bernie. Bernie turned around and we also chatted with him. This guy is the real deal - down to earth type and was great talking to him. You know a Restaurant has really good food when the owner eats there also, right next to you. The Host/Hostess at the door entrance greets everyone like family, because all the customers here are like family to all the staff. Happiness is all over Jalapenos Locos. Dina earned the "Dollar-Bow-Tie" Award for going 'above-n-beyond' the norm. Soon our food arrived and both plates are a Beautiful Presentation of Mexicanliciousness. Lots and lots of Fish on that plate, with a good amount of Golden French Fries. My Wife LOVES her Fried Fish and the house made Tartar sauce is right-on. The breading on the fish is crispyliciousness with the fish being fresh, flaky and tasty. I had two pieces of them and I can truthfully say this fish the Best and is Very Tastylicious - and served Hot. My Beef Crunch Tacos are loaded up to the top and have a Tacolicious taste in every bite, especially with their Salsa. The Chicken Enchiladas are stuffed with a lot of shredded Chicken and are Very Enchiladalicious. Love that Sour Cream Cheesy Sauce - it's some really good stuff. The Refried Beans and Rice area also very delicious. When you first walk inside the decor catches your eyes and makes you feel like you are in an a truly delicious Mexican Restaurant, and when they serve you their Margaritas and your food, you start enjoying some of the finest around. Then you know you are in a truly delicious Mexican Restaurant. Jalapenos Locos does Everything Right. We ordered another Frozen Margarita to share and to enjoy with the last of our food on our plates. Jalapenos Locos is now our Best Mexican Restaurant in San Angelo - it's all that good.
